ADVERT REVIEW: AIRTEL’S ADVERT “WHY DOES THIS AMAKA’S BABY CRY LIKE…!”

ADVERT REVIEW: AIRTEL’S ADVERT “WHY DOES THIS AMAKA’S BABY CRY LIKE…!”

ADVERT REVIEW: AIRTEL’S ADVERT “WHY DOES THIS AMAKA’S BABY CRY LIKE…!”

Lol, this Amaka’s mother-in-law just had to do this…

As in resending the WhatsApp message to Amaka who was right in front of her so she could see that she was yet to purchase all the items she asked her to; kikikiki.

Well, I know they just wanted to make people laugh and they might have succeeded in doing that.

This is the continuation of the Airtel series titled “Mother-in-law”, njoyyy!

THE ADVERT

It is another working day of the week, Amaka (Benita Essien) awakes to the cry of her baby, she dashes to her baby’s room to go cuddle him/her but stops mid-way when she sights her mother-in-law (Idowu Philips aka Mama Rainbow) in the kitchen with the baby at her back. She kneels to thank her mother-in-law in Yoruba “Ese Ma” meaning “Thank you” Ma (Nawa o, the mother-in-law self no reply or nod to show acceptance. May be it is because Amaka forgot to greet her “Ecaro” or “Good morning”)

Next scene, Amaka is all dressed and set for work. She pecks her baby who is now sleeping soundly on grandmas back before leaving for work. Meanwhile, her mother-in-law hands her food flask to her. Amaka thanks her mother-in-law and leaves for work afterwards.

Amaka’s mother-in-law is home alone with her grandchild, she notices that most of the items for the kitchen and otherwise are almost finished, so she sends a list of items for Amaka to buy while returning from work through WhatsApp oblivious that Amaka is offline.

Amaka returns from work panting and tired. She is even carrying stacks of files from the office that she intends to work on at the house. At the front door, she is automatically connected to Wifi. This enables all her messages to enter when she was offline. One of the messages that entered includes her mother-in-law’s WhatsApp messages on the sundry of things she should buy when returning from work. Immediately she sees the list, she drops the folders on the floor and dashes to the market to purchase them. The mother in law suspecting Amaka is back from work, goes to get the door for her. However, she sees no one but Amaka’s files.

Amaka returns from the market with most of the items already bought excluding “Ori” as in Shea butter. The mother in law asks her where it is and Amaka is puzzled that she missed out that item. The mother-in-law not satisfied with her, re-sends it again to her via her WhatsApp, tired Amaka is wordless. (This may mean that Amaka may need to return to the market again to buy the Shea butter; eyah, pele, that is the consequences of not being connected.)

THE MESSAGE IN THE ADVERT

Airtel has various bundles at different friendly rates, so, no need to put off your data. Or better still don’t limit your internet connection to only one area, stay connected always.

Stray connected to the internet in order not to miss out vital information at the needed time, else you may need to play catch-up and be thrown off guard like Amaka was. Which one is better? Trust me, it is staying connected always!

ADVERT SUMMARY

Mama Segun aka Amaka’s mother is doing “Omugwo” like the Igbos call it or “Olojo Omo” like the Yorubas call it. It is a period of time when the mother of the couple (either from the male or female side) move in with the couple to help take care of their new born baby as well as help out in the chores.

So, Mama Segun indeed helps in taking care of the baby and preparing meal. While doing that, she notices that some of the necessary items in the house like Spaghetti, Wheat, Salt, Oats, oil, laundry soap, Shea Butter have almost finished, so she sends a list of items via WhatsApp for her daughter-in-law Amaka to purchase while returning from work. Amaka who is offline is unable to get the message while at work. However, on getting to the front door of her apartment, she is automatically connected to wifi and all the messages enter. She is left with no choice than to hurry to the market to buy those items, even though she missed out one item again.

THE REVIEW

It seems like a rushing day for “Iyawo Segun”, that is Amaka. From the beginning to the end of the advert she hardly had any time for herself. She did all hurriedly, pointing out how tedious it can be to be both a working class lady and a nursing mother.  She was even panting. She really interpreted her role well.

So, I am wondering why Amaka did not see the Shea butter, because when the last item entered her phone, she was still looking at her phone. Even while going down the stairs, she was still looking at the message, so how come she missed out the Shea butter? Perhaps, that is the way the advert is scripted to show that when you are already thrown off guard you may not be able to comprehend things easily even if your eyes are so fixed in it; Amaka indeed was already thrown off guard

But how come the mother-in-law the notice all those items were about to finish when she made breakfast? Abi na pap and akara dey the food flask Amaka carry go work ni? All join, na food, but if it is not pap and akara, then Mama Segun’s expression doesn’t match the scene. As in Mama Segun’s expression was like someone just noticing those items for the first time. So, she did not use salt to cook or what? Even if she cooked only rice, she must have used salt which she brought out from the cupboard where other items were also situated. She should have just told Amaka that she would be sending her a list of items to buy via her WhatsApp.

Finally, is that black out a way to show that it is already later in the day? Well that did not go down well, it looked like power failure. They should have just displayed on the screen, later in the day. Even if they had not done that, Amaka returning with those files automatically explains that she already closed from work. Even the way she was panting self…

JUST WONDERING

  • Why this black out at the 8 seconds of the video, they should have edited it.
  • Is the wifi supposed to extend to her office area or what? Or are they telling us that aside the home modem, she should also have one in the office? Okay o!
  • What happened to greetings like Ecaro Mama or Good morning Mummy @Amaka? I know people will say it skipped her mind because her heart was drawn to her child…Okay O!
  • The mother-in-law already prepared breakfast, did she not know that most of those items were almost inished? Why did she not hint Amaka that she would be sending a message to her via watsapp? Or did she buy the food for her?
  • When wearing clothes with a slit, people should always ensure that their undies are not longer than the slit@ Amaka. Well, kind of guilty of that once in a while…
  • Is Airtel scared of spelling Shea butter, why dem no show us? Even me self no know how dem dey spell am…#Winks
  • By the way, that Amaka’s baby was crying like…(Hmmm, you too like gist, I was just pulling your leg) However, the cry is like an electronically generated one.

DURATION: 1 MINUTE (60 SECONDS)

REMARK: Terrific advert concept though! This mother-in-law self no dey smile with the daughter-in-law. I thought the rival was just between her and Amaka’s mother (Ngozi Nwosu)?

BEFORE KILLING #OGEGE WE REMOVED HER EYES AND…! RITUALISTS CONFESS

For the past few weeks, the story that has been making headline in Nigeria is the gruesome killing of a 300 level Mass Communication student of Delta State University~ DELSU, Abraka by name Ogege Elozino

The demonic ones behind this vicious act have been nabbed. They include the Yahoo plus leader, internet fraudster~Desmond, herbalist and two private security guards. They are presently in police custody at Asaba, Delta State.

However, Vanguard reports that the Yahoo plus leader who is the brain behind Elo’s kidnap has slumped and died. This happened after he was smoked out from his hideout in Abraka

This was how late Elozino was killed. Read one of the killers confession…

“I contacted Desmond who told me to tell her to come back the next day. So the next day, they brought a Corola car; and when Elozino came, they used something on her face which made her unconscious. We took her to a bush where we first plucked out one of her eyes while she was still alive. She was even crying and begging us to forgive her and let her go, but we plucked the other eye, removed her breast and heart before she died”

MUSIC REVIEW

Ehen, ladies did you hear this Kizz Daniel’s line “Meanwhile Rosita dey hail o. If you break my heart today, me I go sharperly replace.” Why do I have this feeling that men are not always 100% faithful to their women. If they do not cheat emotionally, they cheat physically or they cheat in both ways. I mean when someone says “I go sharperly replace” that means there has always been another woman on standby blowing his mind.

Davido’s verse looks like one ready to make his relationship work while that of Kizz is like one that cheats on his girlfriend emotionally and quickly jumps at any opportunity to quit his relationship and move to another.

Moving on, so, the song starts with a dialogue between two ladies that lasted for about 43 seconds. Lady A tells lady B about how her boyfriend had left her. Her words “I loved him so much, I gave him everything, we were so perfect…” The intro is atmospheric!

By the way, do yah all notice the station Kizz was tuned to? It is African Magic! When I first saw it, I was like, “Awwww” a Nigerian artiste is watching something Nigerian. Common, Nigerian artistes hardly do or say anything Nigerian again, they have all gone foreign in their thoughts, words, actions, outfits; activities sha. It was even recently they started wearing African prints. Nice one @ Kizz Daniel, I really love that he was tuned to African magic.

Lyrically, the song comes in this form; Intro-verse1-chorus-interlide-verse2-chorus (2x)-interlude-chorus(2x)-outro” It has two verses, the chorus was taken five times.

Both artistes sang mostly in pidgin although Davido sang in Yoruba in one of the lines of his verse. Punchy  lyrics “See baby, if you want to leave, biko leave, no do shakara, no dey carry your shoulder o” and meaningful.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In the verse 1, “Eh, every time wire me money (Sepe)” Davido tells us how much effect his babe has on him. He says the girl is striking and overwhelms him. However, despite the intense love he has for his babe and how he shows-her-off, he says his babe is not reciprocating his love for her. Rather, all she does is demand more and more money from him all the time. This makes the artiste see his babe as a scammer, someone who is deceiving him or pretending to love him in order to get his cash.

In the chorus “See baby, if you want to leave o, biko leave” Davido and Kizz Daniel unable to handle their girlfriend’s lack of commitment to the relationship or their unsatisfactory way of showing affection, tell them to quit the relationship if they want to.

They say they are going off their mind because the girls are proving difficult or fronting for them. Unable to take their nonchalant acts anymore and likewise get what they desire in the relationship, they book their ticket to another country and leave the ladies  without telling them.

In the verse 2, “Hello O (Con confam). Me I no dey fear you again.”   Kizz Daniel says he is no longer afraid of what may become of him if his babe leaves him. In essence, her hold on him is no longer strong and if she ever leaves him, it would have zero effect on him.  He also says his girlfriend is always quick to get upset as well as call  taxi to take her home, leaving him wanting

He further says, there is already another lady “Rosita” on standby and anytime she quits on him, he would quickly replace her with another girl.

WHAT IS THE SONG ONE TICKET BY KIZZ DANIEL FT DAVIDO ABOUT

The song “One Ticket” by Kizz Daniel ft Davido is about the intense love both artistes have for their girlfriendss who are not reciprocating the love. Despite the show of affection, their ladies take them for granted and do not show commitment. Meanwhile, they are always demanding; the only thing they seem to be concerned about is the artistes sending only money to them.  This makes the artiste see them as scammers, ladies who are just around because of the money they have. The ladies are driving them crazy, but they can’t stand their lack of commitment, so they jet out.

MEANING OF SOME WORDS

Love–  A strong affection or fondness for someone; Scam-Deceit, fraud

Wire me money– In the contest of this song means send/transfer money to someone.

Scammer– A cheat, swindler; Biko– An Igbo word in Nigeria that means “Please”

Blow one’s mind– To impress someone so much. To amaze or overwhelm someone, to strongly affect someone or make someone excited.

Shakara- Proving so hard to talk to,  to front, to pose or act like you matter or you are more  relevant than others, feeling extremely over special, feel like people can not do without you, proving difficult at first and eventually giving in later after  countless  pleas, to be begged for a long time before listening to someone or doing someone’s bid

Carry your shoulder– To be proud; Kolo– Crazy; Vex– Get angry, annoyed

Obodo Oyibo– White man’s land; Sharperly– Quickly, hurriedly, speedily

Uber– A modernized means of taxi transportation; a peer-peer ride sharing taxi cab, transportation network company

COSTUME

Both Kizz Daniel and Davido were mostly on Casual. The paparazzi also! But the first video vixen wore a glittering gown, while the second video vixen wore a plain gown. The second vixen also wore a night robe revealing her undies; the ladies looked more super flowing than the men.

SOUND

Original melody! Clear vocals, they were consistent with their style of rhythm. I also love the drum beats!

LOCATION

Most artists now use Luxurious Resorts for their video shoots. It seems the video was shot in SouthAfrica, perhaps @Legend Golf  and Safari resort situated in 441 Lynnwood road, corner Rodericks, #Pretoria

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Clean video! The video complements the track. The guys were really emotional. They were all very expressive though including the two video vixens. Infact, that first video vixen, “Omo she be Mike Tyson o.” I am sure she must have met  professional boxer Mike Tyson before. As in her rage and her readiness to kick or box someone or something is not a “Hia” something.

JUST WONDERING

  • What did Davido say at the 2 minutes 49 seconds of the video “Isko?” or what?, perhaps, he wanted to say, it is called, hmmm
  • I was going through his tattoos, guess whose name I was looking for? The assurance mama- #Chioma. Did I just say that? Well, true that, but, I didn’t see her name, perhaps he has it somewhere else, may be his…(Hmm, I will tell you later)
  • Davido should stop bringing out his tongue, like seriously, he knows I have told him that in my last article on assurance (View the review here @ http://www.ogefash.reviews), he read it…
  • This first video vixen must be a Mike Tyson fan or may be Jetli? What of Van Damme? She was over expressive; may be na experience sha…
  • The way Davido did his eyes though in the 1 minute 33/35 seconds of the video
  • I did not hear what Kizz was saying during the interlude, na incantation ni? Just kidding but he was just not audible enough and the beat also overshadowerd his voice
  • Ehen, see the way the camera just focused on the flight attendant’s bum…

(+LYRICS)MUSIC REVIEW: BLESSINGS ON ME BY REEKADO BANKS “IF ONLY MELINDA GAYLE (TARAJI P) IN ACRIMONY DID WHAT THIS WOMAN DID!”

(+LYRICS)MUSIC REVIEW: BLESSINGS ON ME BY REEKADO BANKS “IF ONLY MELINDA GAYLE (TARAJI P) IN ACRIMONY DID WHAT THIS WOMAN DID!”

Awwwww! I am so in love with Reekado’s songs. I love this “blessings on me” song.  Honestly, I have been hearing this song on radio stations and from street DJ’s but never for once knew that the voice behind the song is Reekado Banks. So, when I saw it in the catalogue of songs to be reviewed, I was so excited and quickly jumped on the song. His songs are always dope and I have always wanted to review his songs. When “Ogefash” Blog kicked off officially, his coveted songs such as “Oluwa ni” “Easy” and “Like” were already old, so we just had to do newer songs.

But, I don’t know why I do have this feeling that I may still review one of his old songs, may be “Like” ft Tiwa Savage.

Okay, that is by the way, like you know, we always want you to take a gander and have a feel of the lyrics to any song before the main review. Njoyyy!

MUSIC REVIEW

Thank goodness the song “Blessings on me” is short; just about 3 minutes 39, replaying the track with ease would not be a problem.

By the way, it seems like all artistes in the country are now doing prayer songs. There is Chinko Ekun ft Lil Kesh and Zlatan Ibile in the dope song Able God (You can view able God review here @www.ogefash.reviews) amongst others.

Meanwhile, I have noticed that Reekado Banks just has a way of including in his song, lines that have to do with blessing his mummy. Remember in his song “Oluwa ni” he said “…Small boy buy im mama house” This goes a long way to show that he is so fond of his mum and appreciative of her for all her efforts; his mum must have really gone through a lot just to see him get to where he is today. However, it also makes it look like he is a product of single parent; perhaps his dad absconded or something.

Lyrically, I am so loving the lyrics! He sang the chorus four times and the pre-chorus three times. There are two verses in the song; the verse 1 has four lines while the verse 2 has 8 lines. He sang basically in Pidgin but fused it with little Yoruba. Some of the Yoruba words he used are “Oluwa” “tele tele” “awon”…

This is indeed a very straightforward song; easily comprehensible, inspiring and very meaningful. You can relate one line to another line and to the entire verse and the song in entirety. More like a story-like verse talking about his days of affliction where no one wanted to associate with him, but when his story eventually changed and he became wealthy, they all wanted to associate with him.

WHAT IS THE SONG “BLESSINGS ON ME” BY REEKADO BANKS ABOUT?

The word blessings mean to have an abundance of good things. Hence, the artiste uses this song to implore God to bless him abundantly so he can fulfill that strong desire he has to pamper or better still take good care of his mummy. He implores God to bless him abundantly so that people’s constant mockery of him when he had nothing will change and he will be celebrated. This is evident when he sang “See dem call me tear tear, no be Kanye tear tear” In essence, he was wearing torn clothes not as fashion like Kanye’s style, but because he was poor and couldn’t afford good clothes.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In the chorus, “Father Father, I want to, want to, hammer hammer (Eh eh eh)” Reekado Banks says he wants to really hit it big as in make a lot of money so he can pamper/take good care of his mummy. He therefore implores God to look his way and bless him abundantly.

Spoil” in the context of the song doesn’t mean decay but to pamper someone.
In the verse 1, “Throwback to the tele tele, see them show me pepper”

The artiste says, in the past, a lot of people used to doubt his talent and ability to be successful. He said he really suffered; people insulted him a lot as well as used his torn cloth to make jest of him. However, when his ship arrived, all those that had doubted him and looked down on him now wanted to attach themselves or associate with him at all cost “As I don dey collect, see dem want dey connect”

In the pre-chorus, “Oluwa, shower your blessings on me, blessings on me,  yoh yoh” the artiste implores God to bless him abundantly

In the verse 2, “Dem full for the twitter, steady commenting on insta” is a continuation of what he sang about in Verse 1. The artiste says from the comments of people on Instagram and twitter, he could tell that some doubted his talent and never believed he would someday be successful in the music career. Rather than accept his new identity as a successful gifted musician, they instead start envying him and try to taint his image by calling him bad names such as “Thief”. This he says in the line “Ole, ole bawo? Dem start to dey beef am”

He further says that no matter how angry the enemies get about his success, his shining and outstanding work will continue to make him happy. He says he wants to be successful or be a terrific footballer like Christiana Ronalo.

SOUND:

Melodious tune! Clear vocals! Terrific beat drums! Reekado was also expressive as he sang the lyrics. He was consistent with the style of rhythm.  I love the interlude; he didn’t eat up or fill up the entire beat with lyrics. I really love that.

LOCATION

It was shot in Nigeria. Indoor and Outdoor shoot. They used a field majorly where the young and adult boys played football. Also, most of Reekado’s scenes were shot on the field.

They also used an apartment; the building where the family of three lived as well as where the sport team went to sign a deal.

COSTUME

Terrific. It was basically a suit affair. Reekado was looking well suited in the red suit. The matching shirt even brought out the beauty of the suit. His costume was just the best. At some point he wore casuals though.

The sport team also wore suitable sport wears and footwear. Even, from the intro, their dressing showed that they were not well to do. Nice costuming!

VIDEO PRODUCTION

A great video concept! Terrific cast! Terrific lightning as well! The video complements the track. All those that featured in the song were really expressive; they interpreted their roles very well and this of course made the video interesting to watch.

STORY IN THE VIDEO

Tells the story of a family of three; Husband, wife and son. The couple is having a financial challenge. The husband perhaps has no job and rather than go out to search for one, he is always sleeping or worrying about his lack of money. His inability to take care of the family worries his wife especially when they have a son (but their son cute o) So, one day, while the husband is sleeping as usual, she wakes him up to complain about their son’s health or inability to feed well. She urges him to do something to bring in money to the house. This doesn’t go down well with the husband who absconds from his family in the night when they are all sleeping. When the wife wakes up, he finds out that her husband already abandoned her. She takes full responsibility of their son, becoming the mother and father.

One day, she notices that her son has got the football skills. She retrieves the money she hid under the bead and takes him to where his football skills can be honed. She pleads with the coach to manage her money and help train her child. As the boy grows playing football, his skills are truly honed. One day, an external coach (The external coach happens to be his father-the man that abandoned his wife and son. He is now a big-wig in the sport industry) comes around and immediately falls in love with the boy’s football skills; oblivious that he is son. So he shows interest in the boy, studies him and later connects him with big-wigs in the sport world. The boy becomes successful and owes the success to God and mum. He appreciates his mum with a car gift and then introduces the external coach who has also been instrument to his success to his mum.

The mother sighting the husband again is irritated for abandoning her and his son. Unable to stand him, she walks away and her son follow her
