ADVERT REVIEW: ONE OF HYPO’S ADVERT “THIS MOTHER-IN-LAW’S HEAD TIE, ODI SERIOUS!”

ADVERT REVIEW: ONE OF HYPO’S ADVERT “THIS MOTHER-IN-LAW’S HEAD TIE, ODI SERIOUS!”

Interesting advert, I must say. Everything about the house ( The sofa, some throw pillows, lamp holders, flower vase, curtains, book shelf, duvet, bed covers etc…) was white in colour, basically to emphasize the work of hypo cleaning agent; the effective fabric whitener for clothes which leaves them sparkling.

Even that daughter in law wore white all through, even her teeth self white, abi na hypo wipe am clean; just kidding though.

At some point, I  thought I was the one inside that house; like seriously, that is what you call sparkling and capricious that even new born babies will have no choice but to start walking quickly; lovely setting and indeed no trace of dirt.

THE ADVERT

A lady goes to get the door, she finds out it is her mother-in law and welcomes her with joy, but the mother-in-law replies with a long face “Of course I will come into my son’s house”. She looks around and sees how the whole place is dazzling but doesn’t acknowledge it.

Next her mother-in-law says “I need to drop this food stuff in my son’s kitchen”, to which the daughter in law directs her to the kitchen (How come she did not collect the bag from her mother-in-law self, not that she would have accepted though.)

In the kitchen, (we see some other Dufil products like power oil) her mother-in-law decides to check how clean the kitchen is;  she checks the cabinet, sink and sees how clean they all are, but she still doesn’t say anything.

Again, the mother-in-law says “Where is my room, in my son’s house” and the daughter in law takes her to her room. At this juncture, she is unable to hide her acknowledgment as she is impressed with the look of the whole room; the bed cover, duvet,  the toliet, , bathtubs,  flower vase, curtains, are all sparkling

The daughter in law is seen washing white (with no stains) and making it whiter.

VOICE-OVER

“Keep your white fabrics whiter, your home sparkling and free from germs with hypo. Make a dazzling impression everytime and let your white speak for you.”

Finally, someone is smiling; it is the mother-in-law, she acknowledges her daughter-in-law’s stupendous efforts in making the the whole house dazzle and says “My wife my wife, any other wife is a counterfeit” and the daughter in law smiles and replies “Oh mama”

‘Hypo go wipe o”

SUMMARY

A particular mother-in-law doesn’t seem to flow with the daughter-in-law, this is evident in her facial expression when she goes to visit. However, hypo “the go wypo” cleaning agent” helps make the woman flow with her daughter-inlaw after seeing how clean the whole place is. She hails her daughter-in-law telling her that any other wife is a counterfeit.

MESSAGE IN THE ADVERT

Hypo does not only make your white whiter but you can also use it when washing the toilet,  bathtubs, sink etc to disinfect the whole place. Hypo will help keep your home sparkling and free from germs.

THE REVIEW

Terrific setting I must say for the living room, spacious and well arranged enough to see the work of Hypo. The whole place was really dazzling.  I love this advert, even though everything already looked white from the onset, there was really nothing with stain to show that “the hypo go wipe o” wiped. The cloth she was washing was white, like they only shew consumers the result of using hypo, it wouldn’t have been a bad idea if they had showed a particular problem and then solved it for the viewers to see.

Again when the mother-in-law exclaimed “Wow”, the image shown should be followed with a bottle of hypo; I mean that was the reason the whole place was dazzling.

“Of course in my son’s house”, that made me laugh a bit, though we did not get to see that her particular son. The mother-in-law really interpreted her role well, likewise the respectful daughter-in-law despite the woman’s initial unfriendly act, she was still respectful.

COSTUME: White- the choice of colour by the daughter in law was basically to emphasize the work of hypo in making fabrics whiter. The mother-in-law wore ankara

SOUND: Instrumentals  alone; fair

JUST WONDERING

  • How come the daughter -in-law did not collect her mother-in-law’s bag; I mean, it is typical of daughter-in laws.
  • Really wondering why the first five seconds of the clip was blank.
  • Wondering why the ankara bag was on the table
  • Their scarfs though- odi egwu

REMARK

Great advert though, it is catchy and has the potential to spur  customers  into the action of purchasing HYPO.

(+ LYRICS + TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW: AMAKA BY #2BABA FT PERUZZI “IF YOU ASK ME, I’L SAY 2BABA DISAPPOINTED THIS LADY…!”

(+ LYRICS + TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW: AMAKA BY 2BABA FT #PERUZZI “IF YOU ASK ME, I’L SAY #2BABA DISAPPOINTED THIS LADY…!”

First of all, that line ‘I like woman…” is just a catchy phrase which really succeeded in capturing people’s attention, because if you look at the song, there  is really nothing showing that he likes women. Ehem! If you believe that, then you will believe me if I tell you that there won’t be election come 2019 in the country ; he truly likes women, that is the summary of the gist.

“Parry” wey be say na only women plenty pass, even inside the pool those men suddenly went missing; it seems like all the men in the party can’t swim.

Ehem! Did 2baba say the lady disappointed him? Mbok, who was left standing? It was the lady. May be you should just watch the video very well from the beginning to the end,  I know for sure that you will agree with me that 2Baba was actually the one that disappointed the lady. Why you may ask? The lady promised to come around and she eventually did even though it was pretty late. So the question is, how did 2Baba disappoint her? He was not there to welcome her; shikena.

Hence, the chorus  “Amaka disappoint me, but iyeneke confusion (But there is no confusion) Amaka disappoint me, iyom ke disappointment o (I don’t want disappointment)”, would have been justifiable if the lady did not show up at all, but she did.

I am sure both never discussed having any party, the party was basically organised by 2Baba to show her off to his people which she was unaware of.

Imagine oo, surprise party for a girl wey never gree im own, girl wey dey play hard to get, no wonder she surprised him as well. Well, she probably had a lot of things to do and quickly fixed them up, but never mentioned it to 2Baba. Infact, from the time the girl arrived, it looked like she just came for the one side thing, like Peruzzi sang in verse 2 “And if I come through, shey you go wan go one side?” #Winks

Anyway, that’s by the way, as you know, we love to present you with the lyrics before the major review. View lyrics here

THE REVIEW

Like you know, the Hypertek superior along with DMW signee Peruzzi did this melodious tune together and really I can’t help but love that chorus; especially when he sang in Ibibio. Shout out to my Ibibio friend (Follow on IG@thelastcelebrity and Ogefash on IG @ogefash_july4) who translated the chorus for me.

Meanwhile, I still wonder how this song really ended up at 3 minutes 58 seconds, because if you ask me, it does not come with too many lyrics, Okay, I get it, the repetition of the verses, choruses and interlude summed up the entire minutes.

Lyrically, the song comes in two verses, verse two was practically the same with verse 1, just a slight difference. 90% of the song was in pidgnin while 10% was in Ibibio language which was only used in the chorus

“Amaka disappoint me, but iyeneke confusion (But there is no confusion)
Amaka disappoint me, iyom ke disappointment o (I don’t want disappointment)
Amaka disappoint me, iyom ke confusion (I don’t want confusion)
Amaka disappoint me, but iyeneke disappointment o (But, there is no disappointment) (Put a bang bang)”

They sang the chorus three times; 2Baba sang twice while Peruzzi sang once.  Did the lines flow well? Partially.

The lyrics in the song are amusing and interesting to the ears. I love the fact that the lyrics are not complex and can be easily understood by all.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In the verse 1, “I like woman, I dey straightforward…” 2Baba describes himself as a clear-cut person, he doesn’t beat around the bush; he is specific. He wishes the lady- Amaka he has interest in is also the same; says things the way they are and if she would ever truly let him know if she she would show up after he invited her over.

“I don’t know wetin you want to do. But make you let me know if you go show up eh”
The artiste says he already set the whole place rolling just to welcome her. He goes as far as organizing an outdoor mini party, buying lots of drinks, calling his friends, mother; everybody to show her off to them. However, the artiste waits tirelessly for her and partially ostracizing himself from the party as he keeps calling her to know if she is close by. The only reply he keeps getting from her is that she is in his area, meanwhile she is still somewhere far.

Verse 2 by Peruzzi is a repetition of what 2Baba sang in Verse 1 though with a slight difference… “But you gatz tell me how e dey do you. And if I come through, shey you go wan go one side? And if I drop raba shey you go turn up?”

And when he sang “I see you for twitter, retweeting your Mister. I enter your matter but you don’t want to answer. I say no wahala, since that’s how you holla.”
Here, Peruzzi also is waiting tirelessly for a lady. The girl apparently shuns him when he tries chatting her up on social media. He also thinks the girl will show up quickly if money is involved.

“And if I drop raba shey you go turn up?”

I love the 1  seconds of the video where Peruzzi and 2Baba sang together (I don buy diesel…)

In the chorus “ Amaka disappoint me…” here, the artiste says Amaka disappointed him because after waiting for her tirelessly and eagerly anticipating her coming, he still did not see her. Even though he did not want disappointment or confusion, he was disappointed because he already told a lot of  people about her but she did not show up on time. Anyway, nothing wasted na, with or without her, they had fun and still finished all the food and drink.

WHAT IS THE SONG AMAKA BY 2BABA REALLY ABOUT

It is about a guy (2Baba) who is in love with a lady (Amaka). They agreed to see each other which made him take out time, energy and money to organise a surprise mini party for her just to showcase her to everybody. He bought drinks, called friends and families and anticipated her coming. However, the party ended, food and drink finished, the guests dismissed and 2Baba still did not see her, so he felt Amaka disappointed him. More so when she made him believe during their conversation that she was in his area, thereby raising his hope of his possibility of seeing her soon.

Meanwhile, Amaka eventually showed up, but the whole place was already evacuated. Amaka did not tell him that she would be coming in late, apparently, she also wanted to surprise 2Baba just like he wanted to surprise her too. If you ask me, she was also disappointed when she did not see anybody.

He constantly called her and when the call was too much, the lady told him she was in his area whereas she wasn’t. (+LYRICS) MUSIC REVIEW- REALITY BY RUDEBOY (PAUL OKOYE) “SO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING!”

(+LYRICS) MUSIC REVIEW- REALITY BY RUDEBOY (PAUL OKOYE) “SO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING!”

One thing you can’t take away from this new video by Rudeboy is that the aesthetic of the video is not only gratifying but gripping as well. Infact, as I was reviewing the video, I found myself envisaging being in the house and savoring all the beautiful art works; can you just imagine.

A nice video with a nice setting, I can authoritatively argue this anywhere. Rudeboy was really expressive while singing the lyrics. He really cried o; awwww, sorry! So, why was he crying, he felt really hurt that he couldn’t have his babe to himself. Even though he was willing to cry for her, fight for her, do anything just to have her to himself, but he wasn’t willing to die for her;  it is the reality. Check out the lyrics below…

THE REVIEW

The intro of this song was the first thing that captured my attention, those captivating masterpiece, lovely interior decor;  this video is aesthetically pleasing, I must confess.

Lyrically the song comes in two verses. The artiste sang the hook “I’m sorry…” four times while the pre-chorus “Girl, I go die…” and chorus “Girl I don’t mind…” three times respectively. The lyrics were basically done in pidgin and the words flowed perfectly well compared to the previous songs written by Rudeboy. I could connect one line to another line; awesome!

Conclusively, the lyrics to the song reality are meaningful, interesting, heartwarming and original. Infact, among his solo efforts, I would say this is the best lyrically.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

Verse 1, “Some say that I’m blind no be my way (There’s nobody like you)
I gave you my heart but you throway…”  shows that  Rudeboy keeps showing the lady love even though she is not faithful to him. She is flirting around with some other guys who are richer than Rudeboy. Despite the fact that Rudeboy knows his girlfriend is cheating on him, he still sticks with her. Hence, people think he is blind to keep sticking around someone that is unfaithful to him. But Rudeboy reveals that the reason he can’t let her go is because there is just that something that stands her out from other girls.

In the verse 2 “She got a lot of sugar daddy dem plenty, eyah, eehh. I know say my girl no be saint e, cos I know what I’m feeling…”, Rudeboy acknowledges that his babe is not faithful to him as she flirts with sugar daddies who spoil her with expensive gifts. He can’t even compete with her other lovers as they are richer than him which is evident in the expensive gifts she gets. This he sang in verse 2…

“Gucci, LV, she get am; Channel and Fendi, Ferragamo, Bentley eeh, Lamborghini, Benzi, she get am; see my life and my pocket empty”

Meanwhile in the video, Rudeboy’s pocket is empty.. However, he still wants to be with her.

The Pre-chorus “Girl I go die for your body oh, girl me I go fight anybody oh
Any baga wey go try me dem go soji oh, cos dem other girls dem no sabi oh”, Rudeboy despite knowing that she is unfaithful to him decides to fight anybody in order to have her to himself. Even though she is cheating on him, he says she is different from other girls (Like seriously?) and they can’t be compared to her.

From the chorus “Girl I don’t mind, if na fight I go fight for you, eyah. And I don’t mind , if na to cry I go cry for you, eyah. I don’t mind, mind, mind; me I fit do anything for you. Girl if na to die, I no go die for you, cos this is reality”

Here, he states his true feelings to her. He says, even though he would cry, fight for her, but he can never die for her.

MEANING OF SOME WORDS

Bagga– A slang used for someone that may be annoying or getting on your nerves at a particular time or someone silly. In this case, Rudeboy sees those competing with him as baga

Sexiness– Simply means being sexy; possessing the traits of sexual appeal

Soji– To be smart. However, in the context of this song, Rudeboy may mean, to ”harm” “injure”, “fall” something else bot not smart

Reality– It means being real or saying the truth. In this song, reality means he is saying the way he feels about the lady, what he can and can’t do for her.

LV: It means Louis Vuitton

WHAT DOES THE SONG REALITY BY RUDEBOY MEAN?

The song “Reality” by Rudeboy is basically about a guy (Played by Rudeboy) who has decided to stick with his girlfriend (But this girl is beautiful sha) even though he knows she is cheating on him.  He is determined to hang on, even if it means to fight or cry, except die, till she becomes all his.

LOCATION

The video was shot outdoor (Road) and indoor (Kitchen, bedroom…)

COSTUME

Nice! Rudeboy did more of casual wears. For the ladies, they either wore short gown or a crop top on a pant,  net top on a tight pant; the most sensitive parts of the body were not exposed.

SOUND

Very appealing to the ears. His vocals also flowed well with the tune. He was also expressive while singing the lyrics which makes it more interesting. He was also consistent with his style of rhythm. It  has a reggae beat.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Interesting video with great interior décor; beautiful floor mat (more beautiful than the bed cover and throw pillows), lovely artworks and so on. Great lightning as well.

STORY IN THE VIDEO

Rudeboy is in a relationship with a damsel who apparently has a sugar daddy as a lover too. While in bed with Rudeboy, she excuses herself to the kitchen, while Rudeboy looks through her phone. Fortunately or unfortunately for him, a message enters  her phone and it is from her sugar daddy telling her that he bought a car for her as a birthday gift. This upsets Rudeboy who first of  all throws her phone away in anger. Later he retrieves her phone and goes to affirm his discovery.

On her birthday, her sugar daddy gets her the said car and even goes as far as buying expensive gifts for her her and her friends.  While still chatting with her sugar daddy, Rudeboy also goes visiting with a card and a flower as a birthday gift but when he sees them together, this makes him sad. Depressed Rudeboy returns home to smoke and drink, though Rudeboy later celebrated her birthday with her. In the end, the damsel is seen with Rudeboy which may mean she chose him instead.

JUST WONDERING

  • About the way the damsel was wining and grinding, it seemed like she was forcing her body to shake, not in all scenes though.
  • I thought it’s Rudeboy’s house, did the damsel return to his house with the car and gifts from another man that she is obviously cheating on him with? Ookay, it seems like the girl owns the house not Rudeboy
  • The hook says ‘I’m sorry…” What was he really sorry for? Because the truth is that the girl should be the one that is sorry. Could it be because he said he could not die for her. Please if you know, hint me up.
  • Rudeboy, always using Ndi ocha alone in his video except that “Somebody baby” video, ngwanu, continue oo

REMARK: Intersesting vibe, one of his best composed solo track since he separated from his twin brother Mr.P (Peter Okoye) when they were together as Psquare under square records.

WEDDING INTRODUCTION PLOT

During Seyifunmi (Toyin Abraham) and Ponmile’s ( Ahmed Yusuf) wedding introduction, Seyifunmi suddenly becomes uncomfortable after sighting a particular drummer- Ayanlade (Rasaq Olayiwola) who knows her dirty past. Seyifunmi immediately backs Ayanlade so he wont recognize her and then expose her secret. Meanwhile, Ponmile’s mother Adunni (Jaiye Kuti) while dancing to the drummers’ beats also recognizes the lead drummer – Ayanlade as her old lover whom her elder sister separated from after he impregnated her.  To verify this, she calls Rasaq aside and first of all tells him that she would like him to also play at her son’s real wedding. Adunni then invites Ayanlade over to her place so they can discuss more.

Ayanlade goes over to Adunni’s place where she makes him recall their love life when they were younger which led to Adunni’s pregnancy when she was still living with her elder sister and him serving in the military. Ayanlade immediately recalls and tells Adunni that he searched tirelessly for her but did not find her and gave up afterwards. Adunni tells Ayanlade that they both have a son and he is Ponmile. Moments later, Ponmile enters and Adunni introduces Ayanlade to his son Ponmile and vice versa. Dumbfounded Ponmile exchanges greetings with his father. His father however tells him not to see him as a bad person as he tried to reach his mum severally but all proved abortive.

Seyifunmi while with her two other friends, tells them to select good clothes for her wedding when they go to the market. She also tells them that she and Ponmile met through facebook

Ayanlade while with his friend tells him that he has a son from the lady he had an affair with when they were younger. His friend rejoices with him, since he has no male child.

Ponmile comes home with his fiancé Seyifunmi and introduces her to his dad who immediately recognizes her and her dirty past. However, Seyifunmi pretends not to know him. Ayanlade calls Seyifunmi by her nick name- Pet, but she denies the name.

Ayanlade tells his close friend that his son’s bride to be is a wrong choice. His friend charges him to do something to stop the union before it is too late.

Seyifunmi is in tears knowing fully well that her secret is about to be exposed. Her friends see her crying and ask what the problem is, but she is unable to tell them.

Adunni and Ayanlade are having a heated argument after Ayanlade declares that Seyifunmi can’t marry their son Ponmile because some spiritualists say the union will come with sadness and trouble. Ponmile walks in on his parent and he is at a loss as to why his newly found father would object his choice of spouse.

Seyifunmi goes over to Ayanlade’s house to plead with him not to expose her secret and allow her marry his son, but Ayanlade turns her down. Infuriated in his stand to expose her, Seyifunmi lets him know they would both go down together. She afterwards dares him to do his worse if she eventually marries his son.

Ponmile asks Seyifunmi if there is anything between her and his daddy, but Seyifunmi denies it saying she has never met him before. In their discussion, she pretends to be crying while Ponmile consoles her. She afterwards tells Ponmile that his father is planning to destroy their day of joy.

Adunni while with her younger sister tells her of her intention to postpone her son’s wedding because of the issue on ground. However, the younger sister is against it because of the numbers of people from abroad they have sent IV’s to. She tells Adunni not to listen to Ayanlade’s words since he did not raise the child with her. Adunni also tells her sister that her findings from three places reveal their wedding would be fruitful as against Ayanlade’s findings.

Ponmile is worried. His friend- Bode (Yomi Fabiyi) tries to calm him on the issue on ground and vows that they will both find a solution. Bode believes his father – Ayanlade has a reason for not wanting him to marry Seyifunmi.

Ayanlade is with his bosom friend who tries to make him expound the reason he is against his son Ponmile marrying Seyifunmi but Ayanlade refuses to speak out. Ayanlade’s friend returns to Adunni and tells her that he is still adamant about giving reasons. Adunni tries to appreciate him for his effort but he turns it down.

While alone in the sitting room, Adunni recalls her chat with Ponmile prior to meeting Ayanlade again. (In the flashback, Ponmile was always far away in thought and wished his dad would also be available in his wedding. He was however joyful when his wish came to pass). Adunni after recalling these feel meeting with her old lover- Ayanlade may not be a good one after all. She plans on finding a solution to the situation on ground.

Adunni goes over to Ayanlade’s place to tell him that the spiritualist she consulted requires his presence, but Ayanlade refuses to go with Adunni.

Adunni receives a call from one of the important wedding guests who wants to confirm if the wedding will still take place. Adunni assures her that it will.

Ponmile drives into the apartment with his friend- Bode and fiancé- Seyifunmi. Minutes later, he receives a call from his mummy Adunni who tells him that she already arrested his daddy- Ayanlade and also needs his presence at the station. While Ponmile and friend enter the living room to get something, Seyifunmi runs away fearing that Ayanlade may expose her secret. When Ponmile returns and doesn’t see Seyifunmi, he asks the gateman about her whereabouts but he has no idea. Ponmile calls Seyifunmi’s phone but she doesn’t pick.

The IPO (Azeez Ayinde Onfade) interrogates Ayanlade on the reason he doesn’t want his son to marry Seyifunmi, but he is still unwilling to talk. The IPO afterwards takes him to the DPO’s (Taiwo Hassan) office, Adunni is also in the office with him. The DPO tells Ayanlade that his matter would be taken to court. This makes the tough Ayanlade go soft as he decides to say the untold secret but ask that SeyiFunmi be present as he narrates the story.

Meanwhile, Seyifunmi is packing her clothes in order to run away but Ponmile and Bode walk in on her and force her to the station where Ayanlade eventually narrates the story.

Minutes later, Durojaiye’s wife calls Ayanlade to know if he heard anything about her husband but Ayanlade replies no.

The police visit Durojaiyes house where they meet his wife and his friend Ayanlade.  They take them to the station where they reveal to them that Durojaiye was found dead in his car along the road.

How he steals her money and threatens to destroy a lot of things around her if she cheats on him. She begs Ayanlade to keep her secret and dashes him the car and 500,000 given to her by Durojaiye. She then curses the person responsible for Durojaiye’s death and wishes that the person dies also, which came to pass as Olayinka died also. She vows to be cruel to all men. SEX OUTSIDE MARRIAGE IS WRONG!

reno 2reno 2reno 2

Dear slay queen,

It is true love is give and take. But that does not mean you give sex and take money. That is not love. This expectation that a boyfriend must maintain you is immoral. If all you bring to a relationship is sex, you are as replaceable as a used recharge card.

Love should not be commercialised. Gifts are one thing. Maintenance is another. The regular demanding of money to take care of bills because you provide sexual favours is prostitution. ?Sex outside marriage is wrong. Sex for maintenance is even more wrong. Truth is really not bitter.

It is actually people that get bitter about the truth. Do not be bitter about the truth. Instead, let the truth make you better ?#RenosNuggets…
