ADVERT REVIEW- AITEL’S ‘IN-LAW’ ADVERT “WHY DID AIRTEL DO DELE ODULE LIKE THIS NA?”

ADVERT REVIEW: WHY DID AIRTEL DO DELE ODULE LIKE THIS NA?

So, this is the continuation of the highly coveted Airtel Advert or should I say “Advert Series” titled “The In-laws”. The first episode of the ‘In-laws’ was the ‘Arrival of the in-laws’ in preparation for the naming ceremony of Segun (@adedimejilateef) and Amaka’s (@benitaessien) new born baby boy.

This is the second part, which is titled the ‘Naming ceremony’. So, the ‘beef’, ‘Pomo’ and Shaki’  between the mothers of the bride and groom continue in this second part.

just joined the series. She is the model that featured in Paul Okoye’s song titled “Somebody baby”.

Though those that featured in the advert were not called by any name in the advert, but in the advert trailer, the following are their names…

Ngosi Nwosu (follow on IG @officialngozinwoau) acted as Mama Amaka. She is the slay mama and her data profile is ‘pepper them’

Idowu Philips ((follow on IG @idowuphilips) aka Iya Ranbow acted as Mama Segun. She is a prayer warrior and her data profile is ‘Whatsapp queen’

Benita Essien (follow on IG @ bennyessien)acted as Amaka. She is married to a Yoruba man. She is Segun’s wife. She is Mrs Perfect. She is slayer on the low key and her data profile is ‘Only when necessary’

Lateef Adedimeji (follow on IG @adedimejilateef) acted as Segun. He is married to an Igbo girl. He is Amaka’s husband. He is Mr 2Go Guy, uncle Surulere and the provider of all

The model in Somebody baby by @KingRudy acted as Chichi. She is the snapchat queen, Instagram slayer, center of attention, life of the party and social media addict.

Dele Odule (follow on IG @deleodule) acted as Papa Amaka. He is baba jaye. He is a lover and not a fighter. His data is his music.

THE ADVERT

It is the naming ceremony of the first child of Segun (Lateef Adedimeji) and his wife Amaka(name unknown); it is a baby boy. As they dance on the occasion, they also take out time to greet those that came to felicitate with them.

Segun’s  mother (Idowu Philips aka Iya Rainbow) goes over to where his son and wife are, and carries her grandchild but hands him over to his mother shortly.

Moments later, Mama Amaka (Ngozi Nwosu) walks into the place and all attention focus on her. She isn’t alone as she is with some beautiful families and friends who look elegant like her. Mama Amaka and her entourage dance to where her daughter and son-in law are. She carries her grandchild and immediately takes a selfie with the baby. The people around Mama Segun leave her and join Mama Amaka to take a selfie as well. She finds a way to make sure that those at the naming ceremony see the picture, so, she sends the picture  to them. The picture wows all those at the naming ceremony. Segun’s mother also brings out her tab to take a selfie which makes all that were initially around her run back to her including Mama Amaka’s entourage.

Next, the father-in -law in his usual  lethargic manner comes out, but we don’t know if he joined his wife or Segun’s mum.

THE REVIEW

Wow! They all looked stunning, especially the women. They were really glittering from head to toe. However, most of them were all dressed like it was a traditional wedding. Perhaps I should ask, do people always dress in the manner they dressed for a naming ceremony?

We are still yet to ascertain the major cause of beef between the mother of Segun and Amaka. Hopefully, before the end of the series, Airtel would let us in to the cause of their disagreement.

There is just one question I need to ask, what exactly is Baba Amaka’s (Dele Odule) role in the advert. Whatever role he seems to be playing out, I must confess that I really don’t like it. He is so inactive, domant, inoperative (anyway, no mind my grammar oh, the words are the same) He looks like a figure head or better still a zombie. Being gentle and loving no fight doesn’t mean one should be easily swayed or be inactive. I don’t want to say he is acting like a dumbo, but their characters are simular

MESSAGE IN THE ADVERT

With Airtel’s data you can share information/ connect with the people all over the world in the blink of an eye; basically it is fast (according to the advert)

JUST WONDERING

We are not disputing the fact that Mama Amaka is a ‘Jasi’ mama or slay mama, which one come be all these childish acts….

How come Amaka’s mum got to the naming ceremony late, didn’t they sleep together in the same house. Imagine someone who is late for naming ceremony and she is “ga paing”; mother of Segun’s wife, mbok.

I wonder why they were looking at  Mama Amaka in hat way when she arrived the venue (11 seconds), see the way they even opened their mouth self- 35 seconds of the video.

Unnecessary display of  attitude by Amaka’s mother- 12 seconds, 20-23 seconds

Why are they making it look like Mama Segun is an illiterate in the advert, we know her as prayer warrior not latter. Which one com b ‘selefie’

Music by: Small doctor

Remark

I love the advert, they were all looking colourful. The message was passed across, data is life. While you are having fun, you can post pictures and videos of what is happening especially with a co-operative internet.

(+LYRICS+ TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW- ONYEOMA BY OLAMIDE AND PHYNO “THIS SONG SHOULD BE CALLED “ONYE-EGO” “YEM-EGO” NOT “ONYE OMA”

vlcsnap-2018-06-19-19h44m59s975

(+LYRICS+ TRANSLATION) TO ONYEOMA BY OLAMIDE AND PHYNO THIS SONG SHOULD HAVE BEEN TITLED “ONYEEGO” “YEM EGO” NOT “ONYE OMA”

Fist of all, I don’t know why the artistes made this song and the video look like “onyeoma” means someone that gives people money; smh though.

“Onyeoma” when translated to English means a good person. Being a good person is not only when you give money. You can give millions of naira and still have no good intention, so, how does that make you a good person?

Referring to someone as a good person shouldn’t be because the person gives money to others. Do you know the motive behind the giving?

Olamide and Phyno don’t think so. According to them, a good person in this song is someone that gives you money. They should have just titled it “Yem ego” or “Onye ego” .

In all honesty, what I could decipher from this video song is that, with money you can do and undo, money makes the world go round or better still, money is the solution to all problems.

If you even watch the video carefully, the rich man’s scene precisely, some guys without doing anything, felt they were entitled to the rich man’s money.

Though, the rich man is a stingy man and always entice people with his money, but never gives or gives little.

Also that scene where a tenant rather than pay his rent , gave some able bodied men money to throw out the landlord . So you can see that it is more like, money makes you be in control even if you are not a good person.

Well, that is by the way, let us go through the main review, but first, here are the lyrics to the song “Onyeoma” by Phyno and Olamide

MUSIC REVIEW

So, the artistes said they considered the fans, hence the reason girls did not shake their bombom in the song…

That shows that these celebrities always know what fans are saying about them, even if they do not respond. Thanks ooo, for considering your fans.

INTRO

What a boring intro. They were not looking energetic, even their voices were so dry/so unappealing, for Christ sake, how could they have made the opening of the song in such form.

vlcsnap-2018-06-19-20h10m15s150

Even if there was no beat playing in the background, their dialogue should be interesting ; if they were to act in nollywood, ghanawood, kanyawood, bollywood, hollywood and all the moviewood or the movie in the wood of each country, they had be awful actors.

Olamide ‘ni tie’ was just talking like one alaye, even the way he was “ga~paing” bross we know you are boss, there is no need showing it again. Phyno ‘ne me dika’ someone wey put water in his mouth.

Lyrically, the song was done in three different languages. First is Igbo, Yoruba and English. Very meaningful lyrics as it means doing good to people today as table may turn and you may need their help someday. I love the flow of words but each line was independent especially Olamide’s. Infact his was like a proverb . The constant repetition of the chorus made it lengthy.

It comes in two verses both done by Olamide and Phyno but with Phyno taking the lead.

The song was pretty long and they exhausted the beat with their lyrics, there was hardly any moment they allowed listeners to feel the beat of the song without saying some words. A song is more interesting if the beat is allowed to play for a while without words being sang on the beat.

In verse 1, Phyno talks about people who are in the position to help others to show help since they are the ones in money at that moment. He also says becoming successful is not by their muscle but by the grace of God .He goes further to tell rich people to take care of him as he will take care of them later. He also asks God to bless him like he did to his peers.

In verse 2, Olamide is positive about becoming wealthy in the future and he says he would party and show people love.

He was more proverbial in his lyrics. “Chicken no dey fly for night, bar beach water no dey dry, bros your pocket no go dry, give me raba make I smile”.

The lyrics to this song are original. They are different from the conventional lyrics we use to hear from the Nigerian artistes..

vlcsnap-2018-06-19-19h55m42s806vlcsnap-2018-06-19-19h47m43s268

WHAT DOES THE SONG ONYEOMA MEAN

Onyeoma means to be a good person; that is to do good to others which can be in cash and kind. However, the two artistes, though they titled the song “Onyeoma” focussed more on the aspect of money.

The song is about the importance of the rich helping others as tables may turn someday.

The song is also about being a cheerful giver.

“Be a cheerful giver “Spray me dollar dollar eh eh, pounds sterling ah ah, my cheerful giver-Onyeoma, onyeoma, onyeoma”

Finally, it shows the essence of helping people who are in need. Some people misbehave when they dont have money. This Phyno sang here, “Imana (You know) grace of God, If no be God, wetin I for do oh, I for don lose my cool oh”

Also we can see the scene where a girl who was sick”” became fit when given money. The guy that attempted sucide immediately stopped the attempt when money was given to him. Hmm, ‘what money can do’, another title that would have been perfect for the song.

vlcsnap-2018-06-19-20h08m41s198

LOCATION

It was shot both indoor and outdoor. A studio was used to achieve the indoor purpose while various locations comprising the street, parks were used to achieve the outdoor purpose

COSTUME

Just costume. Olamide and Phyno wore black trousers. Olamide wore a green t~shirt while Phyno wore a dark top. Other costumes were the police uniform, the traditional wears by those having a wedding.

THE VIDEO PRODUCTION.

The video was inspired by fans. Not extremely spectacular. Too many stories, there were just some unnecessary scenes.

THE STORY IN THE VIDEO

The video starts with both Olamide and Phyno discussing the kind of concept they should use for Onyeoma video at CP Studio. Olamide suggests that they use Flavour’s concept but Phyno felt it wont be too good for a song like Onyeoma.

Olamide then suggests that they check instagram to see what is trending and pick an idea for the video. Someone hands Olamide the phone and they both check what is happening on instagram.

The first story is about the rich man that is extremely tight-fisted. He shows off his wealth but would give you peanut (So, I am wondering, was the rich man supposed to be dashing them money)

This same rich man, a group of boys wash his car for him, but he doesn’t give them good money worth their service, these guys are disappointed but let it go. Another day, they stumble on the man and hail him. The man brings out a whole lot of money but ends up giving them only a note. A young guy who sees how desperate those guys are for money, eventually sprays them money.

Thesame rich man sees a beautiful young girl being harassed by a guy. The guy wanted to steal her bag. The man parks his car and in anger, he pours the money on the guy; the money he did not give those that worked for him, then he carries the girl in his car. The guy packs the money excitedly.

Next, is the girl that is sick and lying on the couch. Immediately her friend comes in with lots of money and sprays on her, she quickly recovers.

Next is the scene where the little child is spraying his mum money and I am like “how na?” A child that the mother ought to be finding ways to send to school is jubiliating that the child is spraying her money. Somehow sha. Well e better as they use paper, if not, Nigerian for don finish dem.

A guy buys a house for his mum and sprays her money as well.

Next is a traditional wedding between Mr. And Mrs. Onyeoma, it was written on the screen. How do we know they are onyeoma, they are just appearing for the first time.

Some group of men while drinking suddenly start spraying one another money.

A guy that is given quit notice doesn’t leave the house. When the landlord comes around to eject him with some tough guys, he gives them money and those people turn against the landlord as they throw the landlord himself out (So, how is that onyeoma?)

A guy who wants to commit suicide is sprayed money by his friends, immediately he rethinks his suicide mission.

A man returns home expecting food, but the wife demands money from him first before he can get the food, he gives her money and when he opens the microwave, he finds an empty plate (this scene was totally irrelevant)

Some group of people were gambling after which they started spraying money on ram.

A police man stops Charles Okocha and he is about to arrest him but when he sprays him a lot of money, the man forgets himself as he packs the money. Okocha speeds off bringing to the police man’s realization that he already let go someone he wants to arrest.

Let me give them concept– They should have just focussed on one story and built it. For instance, if they picked the traditional wedding between Mr and Mrs. Onyeomna, they could have elaborated it in such a way that they show their good works and how it led them to meeting eachother and finally getting married.

Also, the rich man’s scene, suicide scene, the sick lady’s scene all made sense, and it would have made more sense If they were the only stories in the video.

They Even forgot their conversation at the beginning of the video. The reason they were checking their phone was to pick any trending story for their video. The video could have ended in such a way that out of all the stories shown, they eventually picked one.

SOUND:

Quite tuneful. The constant use of the word “onyeoma” is surely one short catchy phrase that would easily be remembered by their fans. They were consistent in their vocals, they were not screechy at any point. It is an interesting vibe and may be misconstrued as a gospel song. Their vocal was partially appealing.

JUST WONDERING

  • I thought they said they were in Clarence Peter’s studio, the last time I checked, CP directs videos and not sell clothes, so what were those clothes doing in the studio, they are obviously not costumes because their intro makes us understand that they are yet to choose a concept for their video
  • So after going through what is happening on Instagram, why did they not choose one story to use
  • So many unnecessary scenes- the boy spraying his mum money was unnecessary, the three guys drinking was unnecessary, the scene that followed it is better.
  • Why did Olamide tap his hand at the beginning of the song like he was calling a dog, o ma ni igberaga gan ni sha
  • I don’t even understand those three guys that wanted money from the rich man, they were already wearing a different cloth, which looks like another day to me, but the rich man was still going around in one cloth, he should have changed attire.
  • They just wasted beat in the place where he announced that Phyno wanted girls to shake their behind- a decent choreography would have made sense there, so is it until girls shake their behind that they have danced.

REMARK

This song is a great tune, but the video has so many frivolities.

KATE HENSHAW DISPLAYS HER REAL CHARACTER TO MR.P #PETEROKOYE

Peter Okoye aka Mr.P recently gifted his beautiful wife- Lola Omotayo Okoye with a tear rubber SUV. It is actually not the first time the legend is gifting his wife with a vehicle, the only difference is that the new car is always bigger than the previous one.

So many people would ask, was Lola Okoye celebrating her birthday? Well capital NO! Peter surprised his wife with that SUV as a way to appreciate her for staying with him through thick and thin, for understanding him, accepting him the way he is and for being the mother of their kids- Cameron and Aliona

Aside the media house that covered the event of the day and zoomed Lola’s reaction/interviewed her, where she says she is a shy lady, in attendance also was Nollywood actor- Kate Henshaw, first time and only winner of Glo X factor- Dj Switch , dancer Flex, Lola’s daddy whom Peter prostrated for, families, friends and so may other well wishers.

So there was so much fun as Dj Switch put on a mask that covered only her mouth (So I am really wondering why she covered her mouth, was she thinking we wont identify her). Hmmm, it seems she is closer to Peter Okoye than Paul Okoye. Also Flex, though nothing was heard from him when the media house was asking all those close to him some questions, and then the pastor-actor- Kate Henshaw. You just need to watch her here

NIGERIA IS OUT OF RUSSIA, OUT OF 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP

Everything seemed perfect initially, like it was Naija’s game and the Super Eagles would be the big winner of the night. But few minutes to the end of the game, Nigerians were disappointed with the Super Eagles. Argentina won Nigeria; 2- 1

Messi scored the first goal for Argentina while Marco Rojos scored the second goal which made Nigeria knocked out of the world cup game.

WHY ARE THERE NO CUSTOMERS IN THIS BANK AGAIN?

What exactly is happening to this bank that was formerly called PlatinumHabib Bank Plc but now Keystone bank.

I remember those days when people troop in and out of the bank, but these days, the banking hall is always empty.  The staff are always Idle as there are customers going in and out of the bank.  Mhen, I am wondering what it feels like for bankers o, to stay a day without a customer visiting their bank. The basic transaction is only done among themselves, if you know what I mean. As in just the cleaners, gate man, errand staff and the desk office staff in the bank.

The desk office staff would send the errand staff to buy food for them, while the cleaners again clean toilets that were not even used by customers but only the staff, while the gate man sits as he has overtime gotten used to being idle. So, even if one customer visits the bank, the gate man would not notice.

I visited one of their branches in Ikeja; I won’t mention the branch because I am even feeling so sad or ashamed for them; eye suppose they push them mhen.

They don stone this bank chai- they need to meet people with ideas (Kindly call for our services), and strategize ways to key the bank into greatness again, else it would just collapse like some building blocks arranged by a toddler.

GUARANTEE TRUST BANK (GTB)… ONLY EMPLOYS YORUBA PEOPLE

HEY there, am I the only one that has noticed this? or am I concluding too fast? Have you all noticed that GTBank employs only Yorubas.

Don’t get it twisted, I love the bank because it is one of the leading banks in Nigeria. They set the pace and others follow and that is why I bank with them.

But over the years, I noticed that all their employees and the employers are only Yorubas, there is no other ethnic group employed in that bank, if you luckily find any other tribe, may be 1%

Are you wondering how I knew? The truth is that anytime I visit any GTB branch, I take time to assess the staff in terms of communication, behavior, dressing, effectiveness and at the end I am always curious to know their names which is on the ID Card pinned to their cloth, so I see their names and believe me when I say, they are all Yorubas.

So I am wondering is it that other tribes are not intelligent or are not successful at interviews or being a Yoruba is one of the vital criteria one must have to work in the bank?

I have come to the conclusion that the founders who are Yorubas as well- Tajudeen Afolabi Adeola, Tayo Aderinokun and CEO- Segun Agbaje employ only Yorubas because they are Yorubas aand only love to work with people from that tribe.

If you doubt me, visit any GTBank, check their ID cards and all you would see are Yoruba names.

MOVIE REVIEW: OJA AWON OKU “AWFUL SCREENPLAY!”

A guy- Koya (Jokotade Bigval) having so much love for his girlfriend- Mope (Bukky Adekogbe) and not wanting to lose her, goes behind her back to do a charm that would harm and eventually kill any man that touches her. Koya died and this charm is still on Mope who is unaware of what her late boyfriend had done till her new boyfriend Omo Oba (Murphy Afolabi) who is the son of a wealthy king forcefully has sex with her.

This leads to the sickness of Omo Oba. In a bid to save his life, some brave men go into the forest to search for the almost impossible, which is the palm kernel with 6 faces, do you think they will find it?Will they be able to save Omo Oba? Find out in the review

THE REVIEW

The movie plot is not totally a new concept. In the 90’s we had a movie like Igando where some brave men where sent to the evil forest to get something and only one person survived. Well the stories are similar but there is a twist in which you have to watch to know the twist.

I don’t totally agree with the screenplay and I am wondering what the writers were thinking when they grabbed their pen to pen down some scenes.  First of all, it is very unrealistic for a king who has two sons and one of them is at the point of death to let the other son go into the evil forest ( where their survival chance is slim, less than 1 percent) to join others to search for healing for the brother, now where in the world does that happen?

The person that wrote this script is confused or whether the casts are, at times , you would hear in their dialogue where they said six men went into the forest, at some point, it became seven again.

The ending of the movie

So, later an old woman who didn’t even go into the forest with them had the pal kernel with 6 eyes, so my question is, where did she get it from and where was the old woman when they passed the news all over the village that they were looking for palm kernel with 6 eyes?

The ending was just a lazy man’s ending- they were already stuck and dis not have an idea of how to end the movie, so they gave it a terrible ending.

Then the film was shot using the olden days style, even their dressing and cars tell itall, but they have forgotten that when shooting film that is not in the contemporary setting, you have to be careful; I mean I saw vehicles made in the 2000’s on the road

Lastly, they tried to use the title of the movie to buy crowd, but the truth is there is nothing in the movie that has anything to do with Oja Awon Oku (Market of the dead people) – rubblish! From the title, I expected more from the 2hours 27 minutes film

Thumbs up: Great visual effects!

Costume wise

  • Just costume- they tried to make use of olden days costume but not all of them had that costume.

Sound wise

  • Good

Just thinking

  • Koya did rituals and the man told him to heed warnings, but at the end of the movie, we do not know what exactly they warned him about.
  • Nawa oo, this Mope’s friend was even smiling more than Mope wey the boyfriend get the motorcycle.
  • The king raped that Mope- and there was no continuity for that scene- the writers made it look like it is normal for a boyfriend to rape a girlfriend which is not normal.
  • I don’t even know who the Olori Agba and kekere is, they were just interchanging their characters
  • I am wondering why they made that girl’s face blurry.
  • I thought Badejo truly loved Mope why then did he rape her
  • Where did that old woman get the 6-faced kernel’s face from?
  • I saw six candle lights, but it seemed they were more than 6 that went into the forest.
  • Was this no-bra scene necessary
  • The team are not coordinated- they don not care about one another- they did not even know when this guy stopped to take water.
  • Did I just see this guy blink after he was confirmed dead? Chai, 1 hour 43 minutes
  • Who exactly is this guy in the 1 hour 43minutes 52 seconds of the movie, because he was not among the chosen 6 and how come that witch did not sense an intruder around. That his footwear is too horrible.
  • I am wondering why Disu told Dieko (Ibrahim Chatta) to be going home @ 1 hour 52 minutes 23 seconds
  • So how did Dieko die?We saw how others died….
  • The girl was made to carry the sacrifice for the prince despite being raped by the king

  • SOUND: Good
  • DIALOGUE: Good
  • CHARACTERS: Familiar faces
  • SCREEN PLAY: appalling
  • SHOTS: fair
  • LOCATION: Ibadan
  • REMARK: The director was able to assemble A- list actors but then the screen play is watery. The writers have an idea, but it was not properly executed.
