ADVERT REVIEW: AIRTEL’S ADVERT “ARRIVAL OF THE INLAWS” THE RIVALRY BETWEEN THE WOMEN WAS UNCALLED FOR!

Follow on IG @ogefash_july4

Airtel has enlarged its room as it added more A~list actors in its new advert titled “The arrival of the inlaws”. The new actors on board are Dele Odule, Ngozi Nwosu and Blessing Essien, while the old ones still retaining their spot are Idowu Philips popularly known as Iya Rainbow and Abdulateef Adedimeji.

This advert is a sequel to the previous advert titled “Amin” (View the Amin review here), which featured just Idowu Philips and Abdulateef Adedimeji.

THE ADVERT

Segun (Acted by Abdulateef Adedimeji) is from the Yoruba tribe but he is married to a lady from the Igbo tribe- Amaka (Acted by Blessing Essien). They have a new baby which means families and friends of the couple would come visiting as they plan ahead for the naming ceremony.

So, at the beginning, Segun hears the hooting of the car. He glances at the Verandah and notices that his Mum (Iya Rainbow) and his wife’s parents Mama and Papa Amaka (Dele Odule and Ngozi Nwosu) have arrived in preparation of the forthcoming naming ceremony, but are trying to park the car. (Note, they are all in the same vehicle)

Quickly, Segun runs back into the house to prepare the rooms his mum and in-laws would stay while his Igbo wife- Amaka takes care of their child.

He makes the beds properly, puts the pillow covers, foot wears, glass cup and tooth brush in each room.

Segun gives his mum the room with the White bed spread and his wife’s parents, the room with the red bed spread.

Meanwhile, the family of the couple are both in the same vehicle driven by Amaka’s father. Whereas, the mothers of both couple seem to be at rivalry with eachother.

The family of the couple after parking the vehicle finally enter the house.

As both families climb the stairs of the house, Segun’s father in law climbs without uttering a word, while his mother and wife’s mother quarrel with each other (Apparently, they do not like each other). Segun’s mother is heard saying “Ile omo mi re, ole le mi jade, which means “This is my son’s house, you can’t chase me out” when translated to English.

Finally, the families get to see the new baby and they are all excited about the baby after which they retire to their various rooms. They find a tab in their room, however noticed there was no internet connection.

Segun’s mother and his mother in law step out to complain to him but find him setting the AIRTEL internet box so that they can all be connected to the internet. The two women struggle to have the box to themselves but Segun grabs it from them.

The mothers of the couple return to their various rooms unhappy. Moments later, they are already connected to the internet and are are now happy since they are satisfied with Airtel data.

THE REVIEW

What really is the reason for the rivalry between Segun’s mother and his wife’s mother? Tribe or what? It was uncalled for.

The message in the advert is “Everyone is satisfied with data that works” But, it could have also been “The data that works well makes people happy and unites people”

It is like the advert is supporting feud among various tribes. It doesn’t promote inter tribal marriage, because the two mothers did not settle their dispute; which by the way we don’t know the cause.

JUST WONDERING

Even if there was a need for the foot-wears was there a need for the brush? Didn’t they bring brush from their various homes

Why the rivalry? It is uncalled for

How come Segun’s mother and his wife’s parents arrived at the same time in the same vehicle?

Segun’s wife is so not observant, the husband is running around and she doesn’t care to find out the reason.

I can’t feel any familiarity or closeness between the couple and their parents.

Then Segun’s father in law (Dele Odule), I am wondering his role there sha, smh…

WATCH THE ADVERT HERE

Remark

It is an Interesting advert, but it would have been nice If Airtel’s terrific data united Segun’s mother and his wife’s mother.

THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER

Mother A and B don’t really like each other. Mother A’s data is fast and reliable while Mother B’s own is not. Since Mother B is a kind of person that likes to know what is trending, she then decides to end her feud with Mother A by asking her about her data and sharing with her as well.

(+LYRICS) MUSIC REVIEW: I AM SUPERNATURAL BY FRANK EDWARDS “WHAT EXACTLY IS SUPERNATURAL ABOUT THIS VIDEO?

Here comes another spirit filling tune by Frank Edwards titled “I am supernatural”. The lyric to this song is meaningful, but can we say the same for the video? Find out in the review coming up right after the lyrics.

LYRICS TO THE SONG “I AM SUPERNATURAL” BY FRANK EDWARDS

VERSE 1
There is more to me when I pray. There is more to me when I work.
The lines are falling in pleasant places. I’m getting stronger every day. I do not know what it means to fail. From Glory to Glory is my Life.

CHORUS

Supernatural the things I do. Divinity is at work in me
By the Holy Ghost I’m unstoppable
I’m on fire. Yes, I’m number one Because I’m super super natural. Super super super super naturaaaaal

VERSE 2
I go by the name Seed of Abraham. AKA Limit breaker
Situations tremble whenever I show up. He lives in me. He lives in me. He lives in me
So I can climb any mountain. Do anything
Cause Jesus lives in me.

CHORUS
Supernaturaaaaal the things I do. Divinity is at work in me.
By the Holy Ghost I’m unstoppable I’m on fire. Yes, I’m number one Because I’m super super; Super super super super natural Because I’m super super; Super super super super natural Cause I’m super super; Super super super super natural Because I’m super super; Super super super super natural

Supernatural the things I do. Divinity is at work in me.
By the holy ghost I’m unstoppable.
I’m on fire. Yes, I’m number one

THE REVIEW
Lyrically, the song is meaningful. It comes in two short verses and each line flows well. No unnecessary repetition of words in the verses except in the case of the chorus where he stressed the word “Supernatural”

“Because I’m super super natural. Super super super super naturaaaaal”

Also, the lyrics are simple and are easy to remember. This would make a lot of his fans sing along when the song is being played rather than chew their mouth.

WHAT DOES THE SONG “I AM SUPERNATURAL” BY FRANK EDWARDS MEANS?
The word supernatural means the ability to do something extra-ordinary, something beyond human/scientific understanding, something unexplainable; it is basically the ability to do that which is humanly impossible.

The artiste refers to himself as a supernatural being which is evident in the title of the song “I am supernatural”.

This is also evident in the line “ Supernatural the things I do. Divinity is at work in me. By the Holy Ghost I’m unstoppable. I’m on fire. Yes, I’m number one. Because I’m super super natural. Super super super super naturaaaaal”

In essence, Frank Edwards sees himself as an extra~ordinary being “There is more to me when I pray…”

The reason the artiste may have referred to himself as a supernatural being is not far-fetched “The God we serve is Super-natural. We are created in his image and can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.”

VIDEO PRODUCTION
Very plain video. The video does not bring out the title of the song. No show of energy, nothing supernatural about the video.

We don’t see him do anything extra- ordinary like move mountains, bring down the heavens, shake the waters, heal the sick or show any supernatural skills. After all God is supernatural and some of the humanly impossible events recorded about him include- feeding of five thousand people, healing the man born blind and the woman with the issue of blood, turning water into wine and so many others.

Now, I was not expecting him to be or do exactly like God, but I felt the video deserved or required more than what Frank Edwards presented to his fans, it required more than him sitting on a a moving ferry boat.

I mean he sang it himself “There is more to me when I pray. There is more to me when I work”; but we don’t get to see the more in him.

He also said, “I go by the name Seed of Abraham. AKA Limit breaker. Situations tremble whenever I show up. He lives in me. He lives in me. He lives in me. So I can climb any mountain. Do anything cause Jesus lives in me”; still, nothing supernatural about the video.

If you ask me, there is really nothing supernatural about the video; very boring video.

Its only saving grace is the fact that the song is tuneful.

Gone are the days where musicians just stay in one spot with no interesting background while shooting video.

Even, his inability to make proper use of the guitar, made it look like a toy.

Also, he was not expressive enough when he was singing.

Lastly, a song with a title like his, would have been more interesting to watch if there was a story to the video.

LOCATION: The song was shot outdoor across the water. Frank Edwards was on a moving ferry boat all through the video.

SOUND: Quite tuneful, though he didn’t deliver the song with superb vocals as it sounded like auto-tune…
His vocal tone was not distinctive enough, at times the instrumental overshadowed his voice.

JUST WONDERING
Why he stuck to a ferry boat all through the song

REMARK: This is a good song performed poorly. I didnt feel his usual terrific vocals.

DURATION- 3 MINUTES 44 SECONDS

WHY NDI DAVIDO’S BABY MAMAS ARE BEEFING CHIOMA

Chioma Avril Rowland is the current girlfriend of one of Nigeria’s favourite musician- Davido. She is no doubt the rave of the moment as Davido has placed her on a pedestal; the Musician’s (Davido) fame, wealth and glory also covers her. The way Davido carries her matter personally and on social media has even made the name “Chioma” most searched for on google and more popular than our lovely actress “Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha” as the former’s name now pops out first before Chioma Chukwuka’s name. She has become a celebrity overnight.

Some of the notable public display of affection by Davido for her includes the purchase of 45 Million Naira Porsche for her, there is also the millions of naira endorsement deal he got for her, the assurance video dedicated to her, Davido declaring Igbo tribe as the winning tribe for her sake and so on.

Chioma is obviously young and she is getting so much media attention which is not going down well with some people (ndi haters) as they have formulated stories and are still formulating stories to bring down her personality. Some of the unfounded stories on her include, she is a Babcock University dropout, she has slept with all the boys in Babcock University (I dey wonder how girls can still remain virgins if our boys are not virgins; besides even a blind, deaf and dumb person knows that Davido has stopped being a virgin years ago), she was disowned by her parents and so on.

WE PRESENT TO YOU THE FIVE KINDS OF PEOPLE THAT WOULD HAVE A BEEF WITH CHIOMA

 1. Davido’s Babymamas- The name of Chioma all over the media would definitely not put smiles in the faces of his babymamas, especially Sophia Momodu who keeps nagging all over the media, as he chose Chioma over them. I mean how do you explain this? After having wild sex with the ladies and leaving them with a beautiful hand bag, he doesn’t choose any of them. Also, he didn’t give any of them a gift, he only gifted them with a baby girl. But he gave Chioma 45 million naira Porsche. He didn’t sing using their name and he never announced them to the world like he did with Chioma. He didn’t feature any of them in his video but featured Chioma. He didn’t get endorsement for his babymamas but got for Chioma. This and more would definitely make her an object of envy.
 2. Ladies that have stingy husbands- There are people that their husbands are real akagum; they are very stingy. Their husbands do not buy gifts for them at all. Their husbands do not appreciate them. Ladies who have these kind of men as husbands would envy the way Chioma is being taken care of/appreciated by Davido.
 3. Chioma’s Peers-These people would not be happy about her success. In their mind “Imagine, and we are agemates oo” “How can she be shining and I am not, it seems like she is using charms” ; yimu yimu
 4. Single ladies- Those single ladies that are not in a relationship, never been loved and are now desperate for love.
 5. Classmates/Schoolmates/neighbours- Over familiarity dey worry these people “Is it not that Chioma our this and that, we used to see her now” Well, that was then. She is a celebrity now and you are not!

MOVIE REVIEW: INSTAGRAM WIFE “AWFUL ENDING!”

MOVIE REVIEW: INSTAGRAM WIFE

The 1 hour 43 minutes movie titled “INSTAGRAM WIFE” was about a young Yoruba man- Yinka (FRANKINENSE EHELON) who was an habitual flirt even after his marriage to a beautiful and young Igbo lady Adaora (MOYO LAWAL). Adaora unable to condone any more of her husband’s sexual immorality felt it best to pull out of the marriage. Yinka and Adaora went their separate ways. While Adaora searched for love elsewhere, Yinka continued flirting.

Yinka’s mother (RACHAEL ONIGA) didn’t help matters as she further fuelled their dispute. She hated Adaora because she was an Igbo lady and because she believes Adaora’s tribe loves money, she felt Adaora was after her son’s money, even though Adaora was independent of Yinka’s money.

After so much going back and forth; the couple finally put behind their grievances.

Well quite an interesting movie. However, it would have been more interesting if some scenes were yanked off or properly edited, especially the last scenes.

The movie also has an awful ending whereby Adaora was the only one asking Yinka for forgiveness, while Yinka just stood like an Iroko tree, feeling fly or like he truly ought to be apologised to; total rubbish. They both owed each other an apology. I mean both Yinka and Adaora were wrong, Yinka started flirting first, Adaora didn’t flirt, she just wanted to remarry but fell into the wrong hands. She even ended up saving her husband from falling into the hands of a scammer like Ambrose and still he couldn’t open his mouth to thank her, rubbish again.

I also noticed that the film doesn’t make use of too many casts. I am trying to understand Yinka’s character and figure out if he interpreted his role well. He was violent and so uncaring, that kind of person doesn’t deserve someone like Adaora. It is evident in the way he kicked and threw things at his girlfriend- Theodora and even when he removed his ring; monster love (1 hour 3 minutes). His manner of communication is so bad. The way he spoke to his mum, sister and wife was just too awful. Also, this film was shot in a way that looked like everything happened in a day. It was hard to tell the number of days, weeks, months or years that had passed after a particular scene.

What exactly made this film deserve the title “Instagram wife”; rubbish title.

Thumbs Up

 • I like that counsellor’s acting- Lila, she really acted well, she is so principled and has a good diction. She could really pass for a real counsellor outside the movie world.

Funny

 • The scene where Yinka tried speaking Yoruba “Do you want me to kill you?” “Se o fe ki’m pa e ni?)
 • (From Adaora to Yinka- after he was caught in the act) I think your sickness is getting serious- so sarcastic

CAST

MOYO LAWAL, RAHAEL ONIGA, FRANKINENSE ECHEBEN, CONSTANCE OWOYEMI.

SCREEN PLAY/PRODUCED/DIRECTED BY: EMMANUEL ANYAKA

Costume wise

 • Fair!

Sound wise

 • Okay!

JUST WONDERING

 • Haha, that list of items to buy when marrying from Igbo tribe is ridiculous. Can someone help me tell Rachael Oniga or the person behind the screen play- Mr. Emmanuel that the list is so unrealistic.
 • Is that how they pronounce Ibadabn Ronke? And you are a Yoruba girl o. Please can someone help me tell Ronke that that is not the way they pronounce Ibadan.
 • Yinka’s mum always visited her son with a travelling bag but always left his house with no travelling bag.
 • Why was Yinka so cruek, is that his real character or scripted character? If it is the latter, it is bad scripting. He doesn’t even always see his mum off.
 • YInka, Ronke, who is older? The way Ronke talks to Yinka is so bad even though that one is cruel.
 • Who untied Ambrose?
 • What do they mean by instagram wife? The plot, theme of the movie has nothing to do with the title.
 • The way the film was shot, it was difficult to tell if it was days, months or years after a particular scene. More also the way Yinka’s mum came visiting was just like she was popping out from the next door or from Yinka’s bedroom.
 • In most of the scenes, the casts were sweating, especially in the first scene, don’t they have AC or fan in that location? That is a way of suffering the casts.
 • Yinka is not remorseful at all, he was quick to call Theodara after Adaora left him, he even wanted to marry her if not because of what she said that led to their quarrel.
 • It is crazy, a guy justifying his flirtous act by telling the wife that she knew that part of him before agreeing to marry him.
 • Are some mothers in laws that cruel, someone left her honeymoon to come take care of you and when she returned home, her home breaks and you still treat her with much hatred.
 • Yinka’s mother says few months of marriage and the couple says barely a month, who is correct?
 • They should have edited this Yinka’s mother’s part “Who told you that you are not to be blamed” 25:00
 • There should have been a flashback scene on when Adaora went to take care of her mother in law.
 • Yinka asked Theodora if she prayed his mum away? No reply. He also asked if she went somewhere in order to have him to herself? Still no reply, so how are the audience to know what she really did and did not do. Basically, praying someone away doesn’t mean it would be answered.
 • If he truly loved Adaora, why then was he in a hurry to quickly marry Theodora.
 • I don understand Ronke’s words to Yinka “Why did you abandon me- 1:03” “Why did you lie to mum about the Abuja trip”
 • Yinka was actually not interested in getting his wife back if not that Ronke told him what she saw, that means he doesn’t truly love Adaora.
 • I don’ agree o Lila’s word in 1 hour :14 minutes of the film.
 • Adaora was just screaming “1 hour:27 minutes of the film. I didn’t hear a word of hers
 • I don’ understand the last scenes from 1 hour:33 minutes

Confusing scene(s): A lot; the scenes were arranged badly or better still, improper use of flashback

Overall rating for INSTAGRAM WIFE

 • STRUCTURE: Good Beginning, Somewhat Middle, Somewhat Ending
 • SOUND: Okay!
 • DIALOGUE: Fair
 • CHARACTERS: Familiar faces and new faces
 • SCREEN PLAY: Fair
 • SHOTS: Bright shots
 • LOCATION:
 • REMARK: Regardless of the discrepancies recorded, and the fact that you can’t relate the title of the movie to the plot and theme of the movie; it is one film you would enjoy watching.
 • RATE: 5/10
