MOVIE REVIEW: IYAWO KAN (ONE WIFE) AHAH! NIYI WHY NA? JUST A PAIR OF JEANS…

TOYMAX FILMS HOLDING PRESENTS IYAWO KAN (ONE WIFE)

The movie “Iyawo kan (one wife) was about a young  girl-Funmi (Aishat Lawal) who was torn between choosing the guy- Dammy (Temitayo Enitan) that saved her mum’s life-Iya Funmi (Lola Idije) and the guy- Femi (Niyi Johnson) that saved her father’s (Wale Fakorede) life with millions of naira as a spouse.

If she chooses Dammy, she would be her father’s enemy and if she chooses Femi, she would be her mother’s enemy. Her parents battled each other on this issue as they wanted her to marry their choice. When the whole situation started getting out of hand, Funmi’s brother  Tolu advised her on what to do to end the fight between the two men who want to marry her and her parents who now frequently quarrel over the issue.

Iyawo kan means there is one woman but there are two men who want to marry her.

With terrific casts like Wale Fakorede, Lola Idije, Aishat Lawal, Niyi Johnson, trust me when I say this movie is interesting. Lola Idije and Wale Fakorede played husband and wife in the movie and they battled each other because both wanted a different spouse for their only daughter- Funmi (Aishat Lawal). The characters interpreted their roles well. But I did not really feel the chemistry between Femi (Niyi Johnson) and Funmi (Aishat Lawal). Both acted like it was their first time of acting in a love movie. I also did not feel the chemistry between Dammy (Enitan) and Funmi (Aishat Lawal) as well.

For all those that do not long long films, not to worry, the film lasted for an hour and few minutes ( 1 hour 9 minutes)

…And that moment when you stylishly and purposely take a rich boyfriend of yours to the hospital so that he can settle the bills

Costume wise
• Just costume. I really do not know who costumed Niyi Johnson or he alone decided to wear just a pair of trousers all through the movie. What about footwear? He only wore one ugly looking slippers all through the movie. Did I see him wear a black shoe? I think someone must have pleaded with him to wear that. Infact, the costumes of the men that featured in the movie was not too nice.

Sound wise
• Still thinking

SARCASTIC SCENES BUT HILARIOUS

When Funmi’s uncle (Adekola Tijani) was asking Tolu if his father who happens to be his brother was dead or still receiving drip.

Uncle (Adekola Tijani) advises his brother’s children that they should sell his brother’s property and use it to prepare for his funeral so they can buy coffin, cow and cloth rather than spend the money in curing him when his survival is not certain.

Uncle (Adekola Tijani) fears that the kidney donor may come back to request for his kidney back.

Just wondering

  • Imagine oo, was this what this Tolu guy wore from his house to go and visit his sister’s boyfriend- socks on slippers? What was he thinking? Somehow sha
  • Tolu called Femi Aderibigbe another name. He called him Yemi, so what exactly happened? There is a difference in those two names.
  • He is your father in law to be, he is not yet your father in law. (18 minutes)
  • Son of a senator indeed! Femi was the son of a senator in this movie but his costume was poor. Ahaah, Niyi why na, you just wore one pair of jeans and that blue slippers all through the movie; so bad
  • Was the person that subtitled this movie sleeping when he got to the  25minutes and 11 seconds of the movie. It should be African lady not American lady.
  • Why was that doctor from the flashback scene closing her eyes; bad acting. (Check 29minutes 2 seconds)
  • Was there nobody to tell Funmi’s mum (Lola Idije) that her under wear was showing (43 minutes: 17 seconds)

Confusing scene(s): When the doctor said that a surgery needs to be carried out on Funmi’s mum as her blood vessel was blocked and there was a hole in her heart. But Funmi said her mum had cancer.
