After listening to the song Mafo as well as watching the video; the first question that formed on my lips was “Does this video actually complement the track?”
Well I am still trying to figure that out. May be I would be able to figure it out after talking about the song “Mafo”
The word Mafo is a Nigerian yoruba word that means “Don’t break”. It is used as a slang by people. The slang meaning is “Don’t shiver or be intimidated or oppressed”
The song “Mafo” talks about different things. It talks about how life can be interesting and enjoyable for people in Lagos when they have money. The artiste also talks about how people who are wealthy and stay abroad want to use that to intimidate those in Nigeria. The artiste however encourages those in Nigeria not to be intimidated by them because there are some people who are just using it to feel fly but actually have nothing when compared to those living in Nigeria.
Naira Marley also talks about his desire to be extremely wealthy and have his kids in wealth. He says he is currently making money because he is smart.
Finally, he talks about how he had suffered before becoming somebody today. He says he used to feel ashamed to beg people for money. Naira Marley encourages people who also want to be successful not to shiver or be intimidated regardless of whatever come their way.
So does the video complement the track? Far from it. Living a good and wealthy life doesn’t mean gathering ladies around you or flirting with ladies. Naira Marley just has the habit of using girls with the purpose of displaying their backside in his videos.
The song Mafo is owned by music producer Young John and it features Naira Marley. The song has three verses all taken by Naira Marley. The chorus was taken thrice also by Naira Marley.
