At least, the song “Gum body” is more interesting than that “pull up” of a song. That “Pull up” song; odi na (it’s not) interesting to the ears at all.

But wait o, I have noticed that Burna boy’s recent releases have the theme of reconciliation; the songs “Pull up” and “Gum body” in particular. Are these songs dedicated to his ex-girlfriend Stefflon Don whom he supposedly dumped for Princess Shyngle. Is he stylishly tendering an apology to her via these songs? What ya think?

So, about the song “Gum body” by Burna boy

The word “Gum body” means to be extremely close to someone or to cling to someone. The artiste in this song is lonely because his girlfriend whom he loves so much left him. He longs for her and desires to be with her. It appears that the artiste may have hurt his girlfriend in some ways when he was high on liquor. This he made known in the pre-chorus

“View the lines below”

How did I ever let you leave? Oh no
Why did I drink this Hennessy?”

So, he pleads with her to forgive all his wrongs and still stick with him. This he sang in the chorus

“Girl I don’t know what come over me
Girl I just want make we gum body
Don’t want to lose you to nobody no
My God no go ‘gree”

However, the artiste does not seem to be getting a positive reply from his girlfriend whom he wants back, but he is not backing off either. Although he wonders why his girlfriend is suddenly upset with him and wants to leave him because of his misbehavior, when she already knows his kind of person as someone” ti o wa” (that is not)  alright. This he sang in the line “Girl I don’t know what came over you, as you see me so, I no gbadu”

I love this song, it is so soulful. I love his vocals as well as that of Jorja Smith’s. The flow of rhythm di (is) on point. I also love the lyrics; well composed and interesting to the ears. The song comes in three verses; the first two verses were taken by Burna boy while the third verse was taken by Jorja Smith. The pre-chorus and chorus were taken thrice each.

Ehen! Egbami ke (save me) was Burnaboy saying what “come overed you” or something? These musicians have killed true English gan ni o…

I like the video concept, although I feel the quality is kind of low. What ya think?

Take a gander at the lyrics below

LYRICS TO GUM BODY BY BURNA BOY FT JORJA SMITH

INTRO

This beat ain’t normal

VERSE 1

I dey call you no dey answer (oh no)
I say make I call you some more
Yeah you leave me no choice, oh
Very soon I go appear for your doormat

And you had the tight dress on
When I saw you last night at the club
Even though I had my dark shades on
I was looking at you all night long

PRE CHORUS

I’m in the middle of the street
How did I ever let you leave? Oh no
Why did I drink this Hennessy?
Whoh, whoh, whoh, whoh, whoh, whoh, whoh, whoh, whoh

CHORUS

Girl I don’t know what come over me
Girl I just want make we gum body
Don’t want to lose you to nobody no
My God no go ‘gree

Babe I don’t know what come over you
As you see me so I no gbadu
I swear to God ige gbu madu, o, ige gbu madu (I swear to God you will kill someone, you will kill someone)

VERSE 2

No be small thing
It’s something I’ve been watching
Am I just drunk or something?
Oh I’m in love, in love, in love, in love
Like a monkey
I am jumping for your loving
I must be high or something
But now it doesn’t really matter because

I swear to God ige gbu madu, o, ige gbu madu o (I swear to God you will kill someone, you will kill someone)

VERSE 3 (JORJA SMITH)

I feel, I feel if I didn’t I’d be without you, oh oh
I can’t take this chaos no more
I can’t take those lies anymore
What’s trying for me, was playing with you
Baby you’re drunk and maybe I’m too

Baby you’re a sufferer or a soldier
Killer of your own heart
If you treat me kind and kept me close
We’ll still part
Isn’t easy with me
Drinking just to loosen myself up from what
I kinda shouldn’t be but

PRE CHORUS (JORJA SMITH)

I’m in the middle of the street
How did I ever let you leave? Oh no
Why did I drink this Hennessy? Eh eh

CHORUS

Girl I don’t know what come over me
Girl I just want make we gum body
Don’t want to lose you to nobody no
My God no go ‘gree

Babe I don’t know what come over you
As you see me so I no gbadu
I swear to God ige gbu madu, oh, ige gbu madu (I swear to God you will kill someone, you will kill someone)
