(+LYRICS+MEANING+TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW: AFRICAN QUEEN BY 2 BABA SORRY BLACK FACE “CAN WE REST NOW?”

IG @ ogefashblog

Se a le sinmi nisi? Can we rest now was my question and I am sure was the question of so many after listening to Black Face’s version of African Queen. I am wondering what must be running through 2Baba’s mind after

listening to Black Face’s African queen. Perhaps, an interview with him will reveal that.

So, again, finally, Blackface o ti release version e oh fun Africani queeni (As in Blackface has finally released his own version of African queen) after so many years; oti peg an o (Its been long) of holding grudges with his former band mate- 2face now 2Baba whom he accused of stealing the song from him. Any way it is better late than never, atleast now that he has his own version, he will let us rest now.

Wait o, why do I feel 2Baba must have changed his name from 2face to 2baba because of the constant fight he was always having with Blackface. Perhaps, he suddenly felt irritated  sharing the same name with Blackface.

But come to think of it, if truly Blackface owns the song, then what must have been paining all these years must be that 2Baba did not drop a kobo as in the smallest amount of money for him after the song made him blow; and that is so not nice.

Anyway about the music African Queen; it is about the beauty of an African Queen. The artiste uses the word “African Queen” to eulogize women.  The artiste describes an “African Queen” as a lady that is astonishing and takes the breath of both men and women away despite her true black skin colour. He describes the African beauty as a unique one all over the world. He says an African beauty shines like of a star and lightens everywhere she steps foot. The artiste therefore implores African women not to tamper with their skin colour.

Blackface’s version in terms of lyrics is almost the same with 2Baba. However,  Black face’s has a different feel; the reggae feel. Infact I come dey feel am pass 2Baba own. But one thing is certain, “First will always be the first”. What do I mean? When they mention the first singer of African Queen, it would always be 2Baba.

I also noticed that Blackface’s version is quite lengthier that 2Baba’s own. His version lasted for about 5 minutes 5 seconds. The latter part of his African Queen version is different from 2Baba’s

View the new lyrics Blackface added to his version

“I love you just the way you are; my African lady

Don;’t change a thing stay the way you are; my African queen, yeahhhh

I love you just the way you areee; my African lady

Don’t change a thing, stay the way you are; my African queen yeah

Girl you dey shine like a star up inna the sky

I promise say me I go tell you no lie.

I love your pretty blackskin, your African waist line.

I say na you wey dey top of the line

This feeling I dey feel is a branded design.

You got me thinking about you, eh, all of the time.

Morning, noon and night you are upon my mind

You are my African Queennnnn”

.

I love the song sha. It is great and also melodious like that of 2Baba’s version. I did not even know that Blackface has a sweet voice like this. I was expecting the kind of vocal he used for his song titled “Hard life”; omo, that voice in the song was hard.

I love the way he took this part “How can I deny this feeling am feeling inside”  at the two minutes 6 seconds of the song. He really did good with his version.

Take a gander at the lyrics below
