Wowi what a lengthy song!
Lyrically, the song comes in two lengthy verses. The verses are in array. The entire song is well arranged. The artiste sang basically in Yoruba which is one of the languages in Nigeria and the song has been translated for you all on our platform for easy comprehension of the song. The Pre chorus, Chorus and Post Chorus were taken thrice.
The song is meaningful as it talks about receiving abundant blessings in terms of finance and material things from God. It talks about God blessing people’s efforts.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG
In the pre-chorus “K’eleda mi masun (masun o masun o) (My creator don’t sleep),” Zlatan prays for blessings from God. He hopes that his creator doesn’t sleep on his matter. He prays that as he is putting a lot of effort into his work he should realize lots of money from it.
In the chorus “This year ama l’owo lo wo, ama shayo mayo,” the artiste prays that this year people would have new houses, plenty children, not be in debts, never be cursed and would have a lot of celebrations.
In the post-chorus “Kuro n’be, ah (Move away from there),” the artist basically encourages people that are downcast about their situation. He assures them that it is their time to be favoured by God as well as appreciate God for his favours upon their life with their substance.
In the Verse 1 “Kuro n’be (Move away from there). Odun yi odun ayo, (eeh eeh eeh) ah (This year is a year of joy/celebration),” the artiste talks about his growing up and how he lacked things. He said he was not well-nourished and well-bred, but now he is. He gives insight to his childhood background and experience before he became refined.
He further encourages people by letting them know that their efforts in various endeavours would bring so many blessings that even their enemies would come and rejoice with them. He says God will busy their enemies with hardwork that they will not even have the free time to harm them, instead, they would surrender and have no choice than to rejoice with them. He also says many people were showing off to intimidate him when he did not have anything. He says God has made him supersede those intimidating him with their substance as he is even doing shows in London. He says he is now mingling with the high and mighty in the society like Davido.
In the Verse 2, “Baba ko ore da sile mo eee, ah (kuro n’be) (Lord poured out blessings and I quickly grabbed mine),” he says when God was pouring out blessings, he quickly grabbed his. He says people are amazed at his extreme speed of success or how he became successful in the blink of an eye. He says they want to know his method so they can be like him. He tells them to keep broadcasting his story. He says his life is better now since things already turn around for him.
Finally, the artist prays that his creator should not sleep on him or forget him. He hails the students of Babcock university for being studious.
WHAT DOES THE SONG “THIS YEAR’ BY ZLATAN MEAN
The song “This Year” by Zlatan is a prayer for a great turn around in one’s life. Zlatan uses this song basically to encourage people to be hopeful and never give up because God that turned his life around will also turn their lives around this year. He assures people that God will bless them abundantly with all the good things of life that they need.

COSTUME
It is a party scene, like a wedding setting. They were mostly on African prints; native or Ankara.
SOUND
The beat may not be too spectacular like that, but the artiste’s vocal and use of words have uplifted the beat. It has conquered every flaw. However, the major instruments used in the song were drums, shakers and piano.
VIDEO PRODUCTION
Ha, after I watched this video, I put my prayer requests aside and started praying for people that are in the same category with the people that featured in this video. I said God really needs to bless those people; lol.
Like seriously those that featured in this video were of exceptional performance. That guy that licked the plate, im try wella. I was like “Ehen, and this one na person husband o!”
Moving on, the video complements the track. Lots of behaviours displayed by those that featured in the video showed that they were really lacking the good life and needed blessings of God urgently. Some habits include the guy that hid a white nylon in one corner and was secretly going to pour different plates of food in the nylon, the guy that stole food, people being gluttonous eating like they are reserving the food for the next three days in their tummy, people fighting over food, people trekking to the wedding locations, people hopping on bikes even though it is not comfortable for them, people being intimidated by people using a better phone than theirs; people basically showing attitudes of those that are poor.
In summary, it is a great video concept but the lightning was very poor. The ray of light coming in through the window was quite blinding. The director should have worked on that. Also what was was happening to the “video aspect ratio” it was from time to time increasing and decreasing; smh though
