MUSIC REVIEW: EBEANO BY MR. P “THIS BODY IS EBEANO? MBOK!”

So, I am wondering if the first scene was meant to amuse people or just capture people’s attention or the both; either way I think it may have worked well for the latter. Even that guy self is not a good actor. It was so obvious that he was just pressing only one button on the remote control. So, how come he was able to change stations? How can someone be pressing only one button and the stations are changing? How na? I guess we should blame it on the Video director or who? Anyway, that is by the way…

But really, I love all their dance moves; very electrifying. However, I found it very difficult to have a thorough understanding of some of the lyrics especially the pre chorus. I couldn’t connect the pre-chorus to the verses. You can view the lyrics here…

THE REVIEW

First of all, I love their shaku shaku moves, especially from the 3 minutes 38 seconds of the video

Ebeano is basically a dance video; the 4 minutes 30 seconds video started and ended with electrifying dance steps by Mr. P and his entire dance crew. It also featured Mr.P’s first son- Cameron.

I can categorically tell you that, of all videos by Mr.P, this video has the best dance steps so far. If you object, kindly mention in the comment box that Mr.P’s video you think has more electrifying dance steps than this.

Ehem, about this lady, did Mr. P say her body is ebeano? Then I need to say Mbok! This lady that has stomach and leg like that of….(throat clearing) just kidding anyway, but I think her shape would have been more glaring if the costume on her was different, that her costume doesn’t really do justice to her physique; that bum short is not even her size.

A closer look at the Ebeano lady’s body and face- they do not match. Guess we need to blame it on the makeup artist.

Was that “huh, huh, huh” in the song necessary, it was just the same with the “huh, huh, huh”Olamide used in his Science Student song.

Lyrically, the song comes in two short verses. The pre-chorus, chorus and hook were done thrice. The lyrics lack nutrients; as in too much repetition of empty words. The song “For my head” still scores better in lyrics than this.

Intro: “Your body na Ebeano (eh, eh), Your body na Ebeano”. Here, the artist is glorifying a lady’s body and he says it is authentic, super, magnificent and so on

Pre Chorus: Can’t decipher it,can’t relate the first line with the other lines and the entire song. If you can, kindly fill in the comment box.

Perhaps, Mr.P is trying to tell his fans that he is international, spends thoroughly and he does extra ordinary things. Money is necessary for him to spend thoroughly.

Chorus: “Oh no, Ebeano. I dey give them the, Ebeano…” Here, the artiste is referring to the authenticity of his music. In essence, he is giving people great, standard, authentic and international songs.

In verse 1, “Look at the way that she moves. See the way she dey roll. As you dey dance, I like am. Your moves, dey make am. Dey groove, dey shake am. Oya baby, fire dey go”, Mr. P is so infatuated about a particular lady; her moves and the way she dances. He likes the way her body moves while she is dancing. He tells her to keep grooving and shaking her body perfectly to the beat.

In Verse 2, “Hey sexy lady, shey you know say I dey gbadun you tonight. Cos I dey feel you, oh oh. Me and you, girl, only you. Cos with your ton ton ton ton ton, oh oh. You turn turning me on, oh oh…”, Mr P. is enjoying every of the lady’s dance moves. Her moves which she does with her bum is turning him on and he likes it.

WHAT DOES THE SONG “EBEANO” BY MR.P MEAN?

To understand the meaning of the song ‘Ebeano’, we first need to know what ‘Ebeano’ means.

Ebeano is a popular word in Nigeria basically used by the Igbo traders to emphasize to their customers the originality of their goods and services as well as how authentic, magnificent and top-notch the goods and services are in order to get the customers to patronize them. However, the word ‘Ebeano’ itself means “A place where people are”. In essence, you will only find people or buyers in places that they have authentic goods.

Relating the word “Ebeano” to this song, one can say the artist is talking about a lady that has a magnificent body and he is drooling over it.

Therefore, the song “Ebeano” is about a lady’s physique which the artiste says it is authentic and whenever she starts dancing, she turns him on. He is infatuated by the girl’s moves, curves, dance and everything about her which he captions in the verses, hook and so on…

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Mr. P is naturally known for dance. I love all their choreography; so uniformed. I love the video concept. I also love the father (Mr. P) and son (Cameron) connection. However, the lightning of the video was not too terrific.

STORY IN THE VIDEO

A man enters the living room from the balcony when one of Mr.P’s song is being played on the television. Not a fan of Mr.P’s dance songs, he changes it to another station, but the other station also is playing another of Mr P’s vibe. He again changes the station, but it is the same thing; all the stations are playing Mr. P’s songs.

Still searching for what to do next since all the Television stations have been occupied with Mr.P’s videos, the artiste new video “Ebano” comes on air. He seems delighted about the video. He watches and also tries some of the dance moves in the video.

JUST WONDERING

• Why was he still scanning stations if he was truly satisfied with the Ebeano video
• I thought I saw some of those dancers in the balconey?

  

  

• Does the guy now mean that Mr. P has the same dance step, because he said, they are doing the same thing
• The guy kept pressing only one button and the station kept changing. Like seriously, how na? (16-26 seconds of the song)

  

  

• Then the guy said everybody is dancing like that, is he saying Mr.P has one dance style
• The ebeano lady looks shy self, she can’t even look at the camera well

  

  

• I don’t know who did the make up for her, but the face is looking like orange and her body brown
• Spending radically (nationally)? I think it would have been better if it was Spending radically (radically)

REMARK

You can still do a dance video without saying much. If Mr.P had just composed few on~point lines just for the beat, it would still make sense.However, I love the choreography, but the lyrics are watery…
