THE REVIEW
The song “Who do you love” by Chainsmokers features 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS).
The Chainmsmokers singers are the duo of Alexander Pall and Andrew Taggart. While the 5SOS band comprise four people, they are Luke Hemmings (Lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist), Michael Cliffors (Lead guitarist), Calum Hood (Bassist) and Ashton Irwin (Drummer); these facts were gotten from Wikipedia
Lyrically, this is a well coordinated song, lyrically and instrumentally. Despite the various instrumentals used, none clashed with the other. I love the fact that the lyrics are in array; verse 1 and verse 2 have the same stanzas. The verses are short, just four lines in each verse. Although the song lasted for about 4 minutes, what really dominated the track was the Pre-chorus- Chorus- and Hook. They were sung three times each, with the exception of the chorus. The latter part of the chorus was used as the song outro “You gotta make it easy, where you’ve been sleeping? This shit is keeping me up at night, just admit it”

The song is straightforward, simple to understand and meaningful. It basically talks about a cheating partner; someone who is unfaithful in a relationship. The person’s change of attitude gives him or her away.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG
In the Verse 1 “Yeah, found cigarettes in your Fendi coat” the artistes point out some attitudes in their significant other that gave her away and made them know that she is cheating on them. The artistes let us know that she doesn’t smoke but they found cigarette in her Fendi coat. Also the lady in question keeps changing her password so they do not have access again to any of her information, in essence making it private and more conspicuous that she is hiding something.
In the Pre- Chorus, “Yeah, you’ve been acting so conspicuous” the artistes say the lady’s sudden change in attitude is very obvious including her change of style when they are making love. When they try to get answers from her, she makes them feel guilty like they are the ones hiding something or better still; she makes them feel that they are just worrying over nothing. The lady in question manages to turn the table on them. The artistes say their inability to clear their minds of the numerous suspicions towards her concerning infidelity is hurting them.
In the Chorus “Who-oo-oo do you love, do you love now?” the artistes want to clarify their suspicion towards her infidelity. They want ascertain if their accusations are correct or wrong. They want the lady to tell them the truth about whose new bed she has been sharing lately because it is ripping their hearts. They want the lady to accept that the change in her attitude is because she is dating someone else. Their eagerness to know and hear directly from her is making them restless
In the hook “Now, now, who do you, who do you love, love (Yeah)” they implore her to tell them who she loves so they can know their stand in the relationship. The artistes want to be sure that the lady in question has feelings for them and she is probably just playing around with the other guy.
In the Verse 2 “You keep switching your alibi” the artistes again point out more things that make them conclude the lady is cheating on them. The lady always finds an excuse or gets people to give excuses on her behalf in order to get out of trouble. She has different people trying to defend her and prove her innocence. Those people find all means to prove that the lady in question was with them and not with another man. The essence of this is to clear the artistes’ suspicions about her. But the artistes still will not believe her because of some of the obvious change in attitude; she stammers when talking and also avoids eye contact which shows she is probably hiding something or lying about.
WHAT DOES THE SONG “WHO DO YOU LOVE” BY CHAINSMOKERS MEAN
This is a love song that talks about infidelity in a relationship and some attributes that give one away as a cheating spouse.
For instance, in the verse 1 and 2, Chainsmokers already point out those attributes that make them conclude their lady is cheating on them.

These guys are musically talented. The melodious tune got me singing non stop. The great drum beats, guitar and piano made the song interesting to the ears. I love the flow of rhythm.

VIDEO PRODUCTION
First of all I must say I love their expressions. Their expressions emphasized how much hurt they were feeling because their significant other was cheating on them. Even while playing the instrumentals, it was conspicuous that they were hurting. I also love the digital effect; so superb.
The video is interesting to watch, their expressions made it quite interesting. The video complements the track; great video, great cinematography!

This is a great song and performance. The melody is strong and tuneful. The singer has an attractive vocal tone, and puts real feeling into the lyrics. The lyrics are interesting and meaningful with some punchy phrases. Instrumentally, the song has a rich, full accompaniment that complements the vocal track perfectly. The performance quality is high throughout, both vocally and instrumentally. Overall, the song is distinctive and original, and I think it has strong commercial potential.
