Asake “Basquiat” Song/Lyrics Breakdown

In the pre-chorus and chorus, Asake sings about how he cautions those that love to show off or boast because tables may turn. In essence, situations may be reversed thereby making someone you used to be richer than now richer than you. He sings about his confidence in God because there is nothing impossible for him to do. He sings about his pursuit of money and health instead of problems.

He sings about being a “Basquiat and walking poetry” which also means a spoken artwork that is handed down from generation to generation. Because it is a spoken artwork, it would still be listened to for centuries to come by all, there won’t experience any reading or writing difficulty.

In verse 1, Asake likens himself to the famous Mexican El Chapo and Nigerian Ebenezer Obey even though the former has a drug criminal record. El Chapo has been sentenced to life in prison for drug distribution and trafficking. He sings about his careful act. He brags about being in charge; he is the boss of the bosses. He brags about his swag style which he tells his haters that he is not sorry for. He says he is the cynosure of all eyes. He attracts a lot of attention just like 2Pac. Asake also brags about music sufficiency and prays for the grace to keep on and never experience a downfall. He also shouted out to his family, his mum in particular.
