Falz ft Vector “Yakubu” Song/Lyrics Breakdown
In verses 1 and 3, Falz sings about a particular character by the name of Mr.Yakubu who he says behaves fraudulently.
According to Falz, Mr. Yakubu is corrupt, a bribe collector, and a result manipulator who manipulated election results to favor those who offered him a bribe.
He also says Mr. Yakubu was given a whopping sum of 300 billion Naira to conduct a free and fair election in the country, he instead wasted the money and conducted a violent and dishonorable election. An election that was neither free, fair nor credible.
According to Falz, Mr.Yakubu won’t flourish and receive an honorary award for behaving in such a fraudulent manner.
Falz further sings about the reactions of people toward the messy election, and how protesters were shot at. He says that people that tried using their PVC [Permanent Voters’ Cards] during the election were intimidated and attacked by thugs, shot at, and disenfranchised thereby making their PVC useless. The thugs also snatched ballot boxes and ran off with them while the police watched and did nothing indirectly supporting their criminal act. The INEC portal was also shut down to prevent the uploading of election results. Mr.Yakubu also lied that the system was hacked into but went ahead to give his candidate a fake election result and announced him as the winner of the Nigerian 2023 election. This he did because he was bribed.
Falz finally says there are a lot of shreds of evidence that have exposed the secrets of the shabby election conducted by Mr.Yakubu. Falz calls Mr. Yakubu a greedy and corrupt person that thinks he can outsmart over 200 million Nigerians.
In verse 2, Vector continues about the character Mr. Yakubu. He says he has eyes, and neck [INEC] but his brain and mouth are not functioning. In essence, Yakubu may be the chairman of INEC [Independent National Electoral Commission] but he is not productive as far as the election is concerned.
Vector also questions why lawmakers are the lawbreakers. He says he can’t pretend that he doesn’t know or see what is happening in order not to annoy some people. According to him, this Mr.Yakubu is changing laws and acting above the law.
In the chorus, after listing Mr. Yakubu’s attributes, Falz proceeds to conclude that such attributes are only found in a fraudulent person.
