So many people have been asking what the meaning of “Soco” is and I am like “Are you serious?” Why? Because Wizkid’s body gestures when singing the chorus explains what the word means.
Soco is a song from the “Starboy” king- @Wizkid and his signees; @Terri, @Spotless, @Ceeza Milla. The word “Soco” is a word abbreviated from the Yoruba word “so nkankan”, which means to say something or “san nkan” ‘pay something. However, overtime, when people say “so nkan” they also mean “Throw something”. Having watched the video and listened to the audio countless times I have come to the conclusion that what the artists means by “soco” is the latter, which means “To throw something”

“Soco” Wizkid Meaning: What is the song “Soco” about?
The song “Soco” is already self-explanatory from the title of the song “Soco”. “Soco” in the context of the song means to throw something and that ‘something’ in the context of this song is ‘body’. It is a word abbreviated from the Yoruba word “So Nkan”
It is no doubt a s€xual song, one can tell from Wizkid’s chorus “Oya gbefun lopo…” Which means s€xing a guy in different ways, and from his body gestures you can tell that what he means is “S€X”. View Wizkid’s body gestures at 1 Minute 43-45 seconds of the video.
Also, from each of their verses, it is palpable that Soco means a lady giving or throwing her body to a man for him to have s€x with her.
Hence this song also means that a lady should throw her body (s€xually) to a guy and have s€x with him in different ways. Wizkid’s chorus says it all and even his body gestures.
In Wizkid’s intro“Eledumare bless you with body oh, Star boy go bless you with money”, he says the ladies have nice physiques given to them by God while he has money. But before they get his money, they need to “Soco”, throw something (body) and have s€x in different ways “Gbefun lopo, lopo, lopo”
Also, from this line by Terri in verse 1, “So many things you can do with your bum bum, ma je ko re baby, star boy get plenty money”, one can say the artiste is actually encouraging the girls to relentlessly use what they have to get what they want. One can also say that the artist is encouraging ladies to keep having s€x if they want money even if they are drained.
Wizkid “Soco” Song Breakdown.
Wizkid’s Chorus: Soco soco, soco soco baby o, soco soco soco soco so (Quickly throw something). Oya gbefun lopo, lopo lopo lopo (oyoyoyo) (Give it to him in different ways. Oya gbe fun baby o- soco soco soco (Give it to him baby)”
This makes it look like ladies are only good for s€x keeps. Wizkid in the chorus talks about a girl throwing or giving her body to a guy and also being able to s€x a guy in different ways; that is what that chorus means
“Oya soco soco, soco for him.”
In verse 1, Terri said “So many things you fit do with your bum bum; maje ki o re baby (don’t be tired baby) ah ah ah, StarBoy get plenty money”
This line further expounds Wizkid’s Chorus “Soco… Gbefun lopo, lopo lopo).
Terri says the ladies can do a lot of things with their bum bum and enjoins them not to be tired since there is a lot of money which would be given to them. Relating this line to Wizkid’s chorus, one can tell that what he means is that a lady should keep having s€x even if she is exhausted so far the money is available, which again makes it look like ladies are seen as either s€x objects or commercial s€x worker.
From this line, one can tell that Terri also talks about the sweetness of his vibe, “Oh when I come through, they know it’s a vibe, so they turn up. All eyes on me nooow”
What the heck does Terri mean by “…you are my type of olosho”…Hmmm, it seems like this young chap is into ladies that are prostitutes. Because, Olosho also means prostitute. Terri “AIDS”is Real O!
In Verse 2, unlike Terri that focused on a girl’s backside, Spotless focused on the entire body of a girl; waist, bum, etc. He also praises a girl with a big bum. For him, any girl with a good body and large bum can finish his money and make him misbehave “…You make a man wan smoke canabbis”
In verse 3, Ceeza Milli also has money to spend but on girls that can do the dirty whine and go crazy

Moving on, if you listen to Fm stations or watch television, then you would agree with me that the song “Soco” by Wizkid is frequently played on all broadcast stations even though it is not a new song. Even Djs play it countless times when doing their thing in a party or any gathering. Soco is currently the most played song of the artist next to Fake love featuring Duncan Mighty.
So, below is the reason the song is still currently enjoying massive plays on the airwaves, but before that, let us view the lyrics.

The Review
Wizkid no doubt has this attractive, stylish, expressive vocal and knows how to arrange his words to flow well with the rhythm which if you ask me, is not missing in the song “Soco”, perhaps that is the reason the song is constantly played on stations, especially on radio stations.
Wizkid has this suave way of expressing himself in music videos and that was exactly what he did in this music video, but however, that doesn’t really mean the video was spectacular.

The Intro: In as much as the intro is tuneful and interesting, I have no slightest understanding of what he was saying “Holy water, holy money….” At some point, it was like he was saying “only or honey water”. If you have any clue about what he said there, feel free to share in the comment box.
“I really do not know why they showed those fleets of cars at the beginning of the video, I think it was totally unnecessary.

Lyrically, three people Terri, Spotless, Ceeza Milli joined Wizkid to deliver this song. It comes in three verses with Wizkid taking only the pre-chorus, chorus, and intermediary. They all sang in English, Yoruba and then in pidgin as well. The lyrics are meaningful but may be offensive to some people, especially the ladies. The artists choice of words such as “Gbefun, Soco, Don’t be tired, Star boy has got money” sounds like either the women are seen as s€x objects only, their bodies are for sale or they are expected to s€x their men non-stop (even if they are tired) to retain a man.
“Ibadi like olodo; soco. Omoyi le pa eyan, you’re my type of olosho (prostitutes)”
“Ma je ki o re o baby” (Don’t get tired.)
The above lines further buttress the point.

Sound– The beat sounds like that of afrobeat, it is similar to the one he used for the song “Manya”, which has been reviewed on our blog. Click here to read the review www.ogefash.reviews
Wizkid’s tone is attractive to hear along with his new signees. The song has a catchy intro but it is unclear what the artist is saying whether it is “holy, only or honey water”. After Wizkid, Ceeza happens to be the next person with an attractive vocal; Ceeza took the last verse, though his lyrics are not the best.
For Terri, his vocals were not clear enough, I could barely hear him, Spotless as well, though his voice was better than Terri’s.
However, they all flowed well on the beat. While Wizkid was very expressive with his vocals
Location: It was shot outdoors. It was shot in a place that looks like an abandoned building or a building still under construction.
Video: No storyline just ladies and guys having a swell time and dancing shaku-shaku to the song. There is nothing spectacular about the video aside from the suave put in by Wizkid and Spotless. Also, Spotless scenes looked more organized than the other artists scenes. The ladies were looking colorful and his scene was more interesting to watch. The ladies were better clothed than the guys. Their shaku-shaku was on point. I didn’t understand the dance and costume of those two guys in the first scene; their legs ehn…. and that their trouser, ‘come be like national flag of one country sha’
I initially thought that the video was trying to paint a ghetto concept, but another look at the video shows that it is far from the ghetto concept.
Also, the director’s “distance shot” wasn’t really a good choice, though not for all scenes.
Lastly, both Wizkid and Spotless were quite expressive as they delivered their lines; this would certainly keep the eyes of the viewers glued to the video.
Costume: The dancers (male in particular) looked ‘eyes rolling’ in their garments, like they were in clothes worn only indoors not outdoors, and that shouldn’t be seen on people, a kind of cloth you wear only at home and not outside the house, also Terri and Ceeza’s outfit. I initially thought it was a ghetto concept, but looking around, the place doesn’t look ghetto enough. So, costume-wise for the ladies was okay but for the guys except Wizkid and Spotless was poor.
Just Wondering
- Was that dollars or naira Wizkid was spraying in the last scene? If it is naira, oh thank God, one artiste remembers that the currency in Nigeria is Naira and not dollars
- Is that Wizkid’s new hair cut, I kind of like it on him
- Those clothes on the clothing line tell that people are living in the vicinity, so I am wondering if they are sleeping outside because there is no completed building that I can see
- What exactly did they write on that wall?

REMARK
- It is a song with a great beat that you would love to sing and dance to when it comes on air. The melody is tuneful. However, it has no other message than the ability to have s€x with a guy and in different ways.
