IF YOU ARE LOOKING AT MY DEGREE BEFORE CONSIDERING MY EMPLOYMENT; YOUR LOSS!

IF YOU ARE LOOKING AT MY DEGREE BEFORE CONSIDERING MY EMPLOYMENT; YOUR LOSS!

Hey! I am not proud, but that is the truth!

So, to the main gist jare…

Things haven’t been so rosy for me as a full-time blogger, so once in a while, I do apply for jobs that I know “I can do” and that would still create time for me to blog.

So, recently, I thought of going back into the education sector. I applied for the role of a subject teacher in one of the popular schools, St Finbarrs College. So, the day I went to drop my CV at the school, I was directed to the head teacher’s office who I was thankful to God is a male. (Don’t mind me, I just prefer male bosses to female bosses for now)

But as I submitted my CV, he opened and scanned through. I noticed that he was more particular about the page of my CV, which has more information about my degree. When he saw my qualification, he looked at me and I looked at him back. He then started a conversation that went thus

“Mass Communication” he had said disappointedly and I said “Yes”

“You studied Mass Communication?” he asked in full, and I replied “Yes”

“What has someone with mass communication degree got to offer as a teacher” he further asked

“A lot Sir” I replied

I realized he was just not interested in the degree and did not want to hear the “A lot” a Mass Communication degree holder like me could offer the school. My course of study even discouraged him from reading through my application; omashe, what a loss!

So, since he did not even allow me to “talk the talk” in me, he just found a quick way to dismiss me with the cliché employer word “Your phone number is in your CV; don’t worry, we would contact you!”

In my mind, I am like “Mtchew, who cares! If you are looking at my degree before considering giving me employment; that’s your loss!” Whatever degree you want is in me and not in my paper!

Note, a university degree is one’s course of study at the university, or better still, it is the qualification awarded to students after successful completion of a course of study. Read more at Wikipedia
