(+LYRICS+MEANING+TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW- HIGHS AND LOWS BY HILLSONG YOUNG AND FREE “HERE IS THE MEANING OF THIS SONG!”

IG@ogefashblog.

“Highs and lows” is a song by Hillsong Young and Free. The word “High and low” has different meanings. “High and low” when used together may mean “Everywhere.” It also has a separate meaning, in that high means to be elevated or to soar while low means to be below, under or beneath.

In the context of this song, “High and low” refer to the two meanings.

WHAT IS THE SONG “HIGHS AND LOWS” ABOUT

In the song, the artiste acknowledges that God is everywhere. He acknowledges God’s mercy and the presence of God all around him regardless of whatever troubles he may be facing in life. His affirms that his faith in God is firm. He trusts that God won’t let him crumble no matter how overwhelming the problems he is going through are. He believes that at the right time, God’s plans for him would materialize.

MEANING OF SOME LINES

“When it feels like the dark…Lingers longer than the night…When the shadows feel like giants…Are You chasing me down?

The above lines mean overwhelming situations in someone’s life that makes one almost lose hope and faith in God.

“Tell me where could I run…From Your light, where could I hide…Hemmed within Your precious thoughts…There’s no hiding from Your love”

The above means that God is everywhere. He sees and knows all things. He sees and knows you and has you in his plans and would always shower you with His love

The song comes in two verses. The chorus was taken thrice. The lyrics are meaningful, detailed, original and are in sequence The lyrics also help expand vocabulary. It is a slow tempo song but a very tuneful one at that. There was no conflicting instrumental and the artiste was consistent with the style of rhythm. I love the interlude where only the instrumental was flowing; it allows for reflection over one’s life and also allows people to try out the lyrics on the instrumental. This is indeed an organized sound.  The artiste has an appealing vocal. The major instruments used to compose the song include the piano and guitar.

Take a gander at the lyrics below

LYRICS TO HIGHS AND LOWS

VERSE 1

When it feels like the dark
Lingers longer than the night
When the shadows feel like giants
Are You chasing me down?

Tell me where could I run
From Your light, where could I hide
Hemmed within Your precious thoughts
There’s no hiding from Your love

CHORUS

Highs and lows
Lord, You’re with me either way it goes
Should I rise or should I fall?

Even so
Lord, Your mercy is an even flow
You’re too good to let me go

VERSE 2

Should I dance on the heights
Or make my bed among the depths
Your mercy waits at every end
Like You planned it from the start

Should the dawn come with wings
Or find me far-side of the sea
There Your hand still fastens me
Ever closer to Your heart, oh oh oh oh

CHORUS

Highs and lows
Lord, You’re with me either way it goes
Should I rise or should I fall?

Even so
Lord, Your mercy is an even flow
Should I rise or should I fall?
You are faithful through it all
You’re too good to let me go

INTERLUDE (BEATZ) (1 MINUTE)

OUTRO

Highs and lows
You surround me either way it goes
Should I rise or should I fall?
Lord, You’re with me through it all, oh

Highs and lows
In the rhythms of Your grace I know
Should I rise or should I fall?
You are faithful through it all
And You’re too good to let me go
