The good thing about this song is that it was fully translated to English; so, non-Igbos can easily identify with the song. They don’t have to fear that they do not know the meaning of what they are singing.
Also, for those Igbos in Nigeria that are just Igbo in “paper,” as in Igbos that can’t speak their language; count yourselves lucky. The Igbo vocabulary used here are major Igbo words; so get ready to start learning how to speak.
Basically, I feel if there is anyone out there; Nigerian or non-Nigerian that wants to start learning how to speak and understand Igbo; this song is a great starter in that aspect. Even, “Me, Myself and I” already learned the meaning of some words in Igbo. View the new words I learned below…
Angel: Mmoziya; All-wise God: Amama amasi amasi; Elephant: Enyi; Lion: Odumu/Awolo; Tiger: Agu: Antelope: Mgbada; Great masquerade: Oke nmwanwu; Goes in spirit: Oje n’ nmuo |

This song has got most of those words in English that people didn’t know the Igbo translations. I even feel the real owner of this song “Prospa” had to feature the elderly woman “Osinachi Nwachukwu” because there was probably a limit to the Igbo he could speak? What ya think?
Also, I feel Osinachi Nwachukwu is the real singer of the song; she took most part of the song. Okay, just kidding; they had almost equal timing for the song. View below
“Prospa Sang for 2 minutes 36 seconds; then continued from 6 miuntes-6 minutes 54 seconds (Total timing: 3 minutes 30 seconds)
Osinachi sang from 2 minutes 54 seconds- 6 minutes (Total timing: 3 minutes 6 seconds)”
So both worked together to make the song great; not just one person. However, Osinachi sang more in Igbo compared to Prospa. View the only part in the song that Prospa sang in Igbo aside “Ekwueme” below…
“Onye new anyi ezitewo (Our God that sent). Ndi Mmoziya ka ha nonyere anyi (His angels to come be with us)”
WHAT IS THE SONG EKWUEME ABOUT?
“Ekwueme “ is an Igbo word in Nigeria that means “The God who says and does it.”
In the song, the artistes praise God for his wonders, goodness, mighty powers, greatness, wisdom and love for all humans. They describe God as the never-changing God, the incomparable God, and the one whose presence in a place makes all things good. They describe God as the one who has the power to speak and make it come to pass; the one that needs no permission from anyone to act.

“Ekwueme! Ekwueme! (The one who says and does it) Okechi e nnukwu chi – 2x(Great God, massive God)
Nani gi bu ome okachie(Only you has the final say)
Olori ihe loro che loro enti (He swallows, what swallows an elephant)
Agu bata Ohia Mgbada awara Oso(The tiger that appears and puts the antelope on a run)
Ekwueme so gi bu Ekwueme(The one who says and does it. You are the one that says and does it)
Obu onye n’ekwu ma chim kwuchasia(Who can say it when my God has not said it)
Obu Onye N’aturu chim uka chukwu(Who tells God what to do?)

“You are the Living God O; Eze, no one like You (King, there is no one like you) No one can do me like you do. No one can touch me like you do, God! Eh Inweghi onyiri amama amasi amasi(You have no comparism; The All-wise God)”
I feel this is another evergreen song. The song doesn’t follow a particular sequence; there is no chorus, hook or clear verse. However, “Ekwueme” pre-dominated the lyrics. The artistes sang mostly in Igbo; a Nigerian Language. The song is soul-lifting. I think Osinachi was more filled in spirit than Prospa; what y’all think? I love the congregation; they were really filled with the spirit of God. The artistes have convincing vocals; they sang with so much conviction about the Creator. The major instruments used to compose the song include drums, piano, and guitar. The tune sounds mournful
The artistes used the recording of one of their ministrations in Enugu as the video for this track. Do you think this song should have an original video?
Below are the lines I love most in this song
“Obata ulo adinma(He comes to a Home; everyone is Happy.)”
Obudi Onye n’ekwu ma ikwuchasi chukwu ebighebi(Who can say when You’re done talking? Everlasting God)”
JUST WONDERING
This man’s facial expression though
Take a gander at the lyrics below.

Hi Ogefash,
Thanks for the helpful review on the song Ekwueme by Mr. Prospa Ochimana and Mrs. Osinachi Nwachukwu.
This is a song that some Christians here in Kenya love to sing along. I think we sense the Spirit in the song even though it is sung in a foreign language.
My question is on why the song says God is the big masquerade. I wonder whether the word masquerade has a different meaning in Nigerian English. When I checked it on a dictionary it says the meaning of masquerade is pretence, false and I am sure nobody wants to think of God as false. So I thought I might be missing something here. Please throw some light on it.
Masquerade definition
noun
a false show or pretence.
“I doubt he could have kept up the masquerade for long”
Similar: pretence, deception, pose, act…
Thanks for your time.
Gabriel.
Hi Gabriel, thanks for stopping by @ogefash photo blog to read one of our juicy contents. Thanks for sharing your thought on the song Ekwueme by Mr. Prospa Ochimana and Mrs. Osinachi Nwachukwu.
I believe the artiste calling God “Oke Mmanwu” which means “Great Masquerade” can be likened to Him as “God of all gods” or ” King of all kings.” Or maybe the artiste was just referring to God as the “Greatest ….”
…..
Phew! Really, I leave it for other readers and commenters of Ogefash Photo Blog to throw more light on…
So, Ogefash Stylists, kindly share “Why did the artistes refer to God as a Great masquerade.”
