(+LYRICS+MEANING+TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW- RARE BY SELENA GOMEZ “SELENA GOMEZ HAS OFFICIALLY GONE…”

Guys! Guyz! Guyz! Or should I  say J

Justin Bieber? No! I can’t na because he is happily married to Hailey Bieber. So as I was saying, guyz (they know themselves), why are you not treating my Selena Gomez well? Why are you guyz just not returning her love? This isn’t fair! Why are you not just recognising that there aren’t many of Selena’s kind and that she is so rare #Winks

Now the “above” seems like what Selena Gomez may really be complaining about “Guyz” that  find themselves in her life, and here is what she has to tell them via the chorus “Oh, why don’t you recognize I’m so rare”

ABOUT THE SONG RARE BY SELENA GOMEZ

Interestingly, the theme of this song is similar to that of “Lose you to love me” by the artiste. Both songs have the theme of unrequited love.

Now about the song!

The word rare means exceptional, matchless, uncommon, one of a kind; all the synonyms of rare fits in.

Selena Gomez used the word “rare” to describe her personality to her boyfriend who she has known since childhood to be loving, but suddenly stopped being  loving and stopped giving her attention like he used to. This lover of hers has stopped caring about her as well; he isn’t always there for her and whenever he is around, he hardly notices her. According to Selena it is like her lover is gradually getting detached emotionally, and she sees no reason for that because they have been together for long. None of them is perfect; so she doesn’t know what went wrong.

Hence, she had to emphasize the word “Rare” for this lover” of hers, so he would know that there are lots of men out there that want her type, and it would be a big loss for him if a break-up eventually happens between them.

I love this song; very interesting to the ears. Her vocal was expressive. The major instruments used include the drums, piano and percussion.

The lyrics are meaningful. What really dominated the song was the pre-chorus, chorus and post chorus. They were taken thrice and they flow so well.

I love the cinematography. Selena is becoming more like a solo-performer when shooting videos. Her video features only her doing the performance; you hardly see her feature video vixens supporting her with a dance or even a guy to represent the lover she is singing about; she has officially gone solo. This same method was what she used for the song “Lose you to love me” . What y’all think?

Take a gander at the lyrics below.

LYRICS TO RARE BY SELENA GOMEZ

VERSE 1

Baby, you’ve been so distant from me lately
And lately don’t even want to call you “baby”

PRE CHORUS

Saw us getting older
Burning toast in the toaster
My ambitions were too high
Waiting up for you upstairs
Why you act like I’m not there?
Baby, right now it feels like

CHORUS

It feels like you don’t care
Oh, why don’t you recognize I’m so rare
Always there
You don’t do the same for me
That’s not fair

POST CHORUS

I don’t have it all
I’m not claiming to
But I know that I’m special, yeah
And I’ll bet there’s somebody else out there
To tell me I’m rare, to make me feel rare

VERSE 2

Baby, don’t make me count up all the reasons
To stay with you
No reason why you and I are not succeeding
At all

PRE CHORUS

Saw us getting older
Burning toast in the toaster
My ambitions were too high (Too high)
Waiting up for you upstairs (Up stairs)
Why you act like I’m not there?
Baby, right now it feels like

CHORUS

It feels like you don’t care
Oh, why don’t you recognize I’m so rare
Always there
You don’t do the same for me
That’s not fair

POST CHORUS

I don’t have it all
I’m not claiming to
But I know that I’m special, yeah
And I’ll bet there’s somebody else out there
To tell me I’m rare, to make me feel rare

BRIDGE

I’m not gonna beg for you
I’m not gonna let you make me cry (Make me cry)
Not getting enough from you
Didn’t you know I’m hard to find? (Hard to find)

PRE CHORUS

Saw us getting older
Burning toast in the toaster
My ambitions were too high
Waiting up for you upstairs
Why you act like I’m not there?
Baby, right now it feels like

CHORUS

It feels like you don’t care
Oh, why don’t you recognize I’m so rare
Always there
You don’t do the same for me
That’s not fair

POST CHORUS

I don’t have it all
I’m not claiming to
But I know that I’m special, yeah
And I’ll bet there’s somebody else out there
To tell me I’m rare, to make me feel rare

So rare, so rare
Rare! Rare!
