(+LYRICS+MEANING+TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW: MY BABY, MY MONEY BY BURNA BOY “WHAT IS THIS SONG REALLY ABOUT?”

IG @ogefashblog.

I took interest in this song when the former first lady of the United States of America- Michelle Obama added this particular Burnaboy’s song- “My Money My Baby” to her 2020 Workout playlist. I listened to this song and instantly realized the reason the song was not among the most played in the country; there is really nothing spectacular about the song. What Ya think?

WHAT IS THIS SONG REALLY ABOUT?

To be honest, I am trying to decipher this song. I can’t really attach a meaning to the title “My money my baby.” Was he trying to say his money is as important as his baby? Or was he trying to say that his money is his “baby” and it is so important to him? Any Idea kindly let us know?

However, the whole lyrics talk about the artiste being on the crime for a crime. He is being wanted by the police for killing for stealing as well as for killing someone. In order not to be caught by the policemen; he escaped to another town. So if he committed a crime, why then are people embracing him like he sang in Verse 1, view below

“Mama dem cuddle me, Papa dem cuddle me…”

Why should people cuddle him after hearing on all newsmedia that he committed an offense and he is wanted by the policemen?

The lyrics are really confusing. The song has one verse but the artiste repeated it in the latter part of the song. He mentioned “My Money” 30times and “My baby” 24times in the song. It has an afro-beat tune. The major instruments used in composing the song include drum and piano. The artiste sang basically in pidgin. As at the time of penning down thoughts on this song, the video has not yet dropped.

Take a gander at the lyrics below.
