(+LYRICS+MEANING+TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW- CLOSED ON SUNDAY BY KANYE WEST “WHY KANYE USED CHICK FIL A”

IG @ogefashblog.

When I first heard that Kanye West released a song titled “Closed on Sunday” I was wondering what he was all about with such title, or what message he was trying to pass across. Funnily, I did not download or listen to the song when it was released, however it was in the catalogue of songs to be reviewed.

After listening to this song, I must confess that I totally got stuck to the music and was reluctant to skip to the next song for review. This song is dope; as in odi (it is) so dope.

ABOUT THE SONG CLOSED ON SUNDAY BY KANYE WEST AND WHY HE USED THE WORD “CHICK-FIL-A”

According to Wikipedia, Chick-fil A is one of the largest American fast food restaurant chains whose speciality is chicken sandwiches. The famous restaurant works for 24 hours- Mon-Saturday; they are however closed on Sunday.

The use of Chick-Fil A by the artiste in the song “Closed on Sunday” is to emphasize his unavailability on Sunday to any event just like how Chick-Fil A is always closed on Sundays to all customers. The reason for this is because he is dedicating or has dedicated that entire Sunday to God. He is occupied with God. He intends to spend quality time with God.

In essence, he can run businesses from Monday- Saturday or go for events from Monday to Saturday but never on Sunday. If anyone fixes an event for Sunday, he won’t show up.

The artiste also talks about families praying together, protecting their girls, training their sons in faith and people being careful of treacherous people. He also implores people to reject false teachings as well as be alert to resist temptations when they come. Kanye says with God, he and his family has victory over everything including the devil. He also talks about his readiness to follow Christ and stand with God. Even if the world castigates him and don’t join him in the walk; he wont look back.

Kanye used this song to declare his stand with God regardless what the society feel about it or how they may want to bring a false doctrine about Jesus christ in order to deceive people and make people not follow him. He calls on people not to listen to the misteachings of the society about Jesus but stand firm in him.

The song “Closed on Sunday” by Kanye is brief, but the lyrics are so inspiring and soul lifting. The song has two verses and the chorus was taken once. I love the instruments; also soul lifting as well. The major instruments used are the guitar and piano.

The video features his entire family, his wife- Kim Kardashian; his four kids (Saint West, North West, Psalm West, Chicago West) and even his mother in law- Kris Jenner. The video was shot in a desert; I think.

LYRICS TO CLOSED ON SUNDAY BY KANYE WEST

INTRO

BEATZ

VERSE 1

Closed on Sunday, you’re my Chick-fil-A
Closed on Sunday, you my Chick-fil-A
Hold the selfies, put the ’Gram away
Get your family,  y’all hold hands and pray
When you get daughters, always keep them safe
Watch out for vipers, don’t let them indoctrinate

CHORUS
Closed on Sunday, you my Chick-fil-A
You’re my number one, with the lemonade
Raise our sons, train them in the faith
Through temptations, make sure they’re wide awake
Follow Jesus, listen and obey
No more living for the culture, we nobody’s slave

VERSE 2

Stand up on for my home
Even if I take this walk alone
I, bow down to the King upon the throne
My life is His, I’m no longer my own
I pray to God that He’ll strengthen my hand
They will think twice stepping onto my land
I draw the line, it’s written in the sand
Try me and you will see that I ain’t playing
Now, back up off my family, move your hands
I got my weapons in the spirit’s land
I, Jezebel don’t even stand a chance
Jezebel don’t even stand a chance
