(+LYRICS+MEANING+TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW- BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE BY ED SHEERAN FT KHALID ‘HERE IS THE MEANING OF THE SONG”

IG @ogefashblog.

I feel like the song “Beautiful people” by Ed Sheeran ft Khalid is self explanatory already. It is so ironical that beautiful people who are living elegant lives may actually not be beautiful in the real sense. This is because they are using their elegance, wealth to hide their real problems people are oblivious of; it is called masking.

WHAT THE SONG BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE BY ED SHEERAN FT KHALID IS ABOUT

The chorus explains it all

CHORUS

Beautiful people. Drop top, designer clothes. Front row at fashion shows
What do you do and who do you know? Inside the world of beautiful people

Champagne and rolled-up notes. Prenups and broken homes
Surrounded, but still alone. Let’s leave the party”

In essence, appearances are deceptive, the people that you think are beautiful may not truly be beautiful. They are just beautiful outside and not inside. They showoff their wealth and all their expensive acquisition and put on a smile just to impress people. But, a closer  look at them, you would tell that they are just surrounded (With wealth) yet alone. They are masking their personality.

“Beautiful people” by Ed Sheeran ft Khalid is a call to people to be themselves, live the kind of life they want to rather than trying to live another person’s kind of life, cause in the true sense, those that they are trying to copy their lifestyle may actually have money to show off, but may not really be happy. These so called beautiful people whom people assume to have perfect lives do not actually have one; most of them are alone.

Why are they alone you may ask?

In having  the larger-than-life personality;  in living an enviable life;  in having all the designer shoes, bags, clothes and the latest cars; in being on all the front covers of magazines; most of them are not happy or are divorced. But they appear to the public like people that are happy; they carry a deceptive appearance.

THE VIDEO

The video tells the story of a couple that are pleased with their own lifestyle. They want to live a normal life and not live to impress people. They are not interested in living a showy life to impress the society or the world. They are happy with their lifestyle. One can tell in the party they went to where they felt out of place, they felt they do not fit in from their body language. You can also tell when the guy was irritated and suddenly spat in one of the containers. View this in the 1 minute 22 seconds of the song. They are not the materialistic kind of couple. They are not crazed about the flamboyant lifestyle.

The song “Beautiful people” comes in two verses. The first verse was taken by Ed Sheeran while the second verse was taken by Khalid. The pre chorus, chorus and chorus were taken twice each. I love the lyrics, they are so well written and expands listener’s vocabulary. It is not the cheesy kind of lyrics some musicians are fond of writing.

The major instruments used in the song include, drums, percussion, shakers and piano. I  love the flow of rhythm, especially the chorus part; so rhythmic. The singers have appealing voices.

INTRO

We are, we are, we are

VERSE 1

L.A. on a Saturday night in the summer
Sundown and they all come out
Lamborghinis and their rented Hummers
The party’s on, so they’re heading downtown (Downtown)
Everybody’s looking for a come up
And they wanna know what you’re about
Me in the middle with the one I love and
We’re just tryna figure everything out

PRE CHORUS

We don’t fit in well
‘Cause we are just ourselves
I could use some help
Getting out of this conversation, yeah
You look stunning, dear
So don’t ask that question here
This is my only fear, that we become

CHORUS

Beautiful people
Drop top, designer clothes
Front row at fashion shows
What do you do and who do you know?
Inside the world of beautiful people

Champagne and rolled-up notes
Prenups and broken homes
Surrounded, but still alone
Let’s leave the party

POST CHORUS

That’s not who we are
We are, we are, we are
We are not beautiful
Yeah, that’s not who we are
We are, we are, we are
We are not beautiful

L.A. hmm

VERSE 2 (KHALID)
Drove for hours last night and we made it nowhere (Nowhere, nowhere)
I see stars in your eyes when we’re halfway there (All night)
I’m not fazed by all dem lights and flashing cameras (Huh)
‘Cause with my arms around you, there’s no need to care

PRE CHORUS

We don’t fit in well
We are just ourselves
I could use some help
Getting out of this conversation, yeah
You look stunning, dear
So don’t ask that question here
This is my only fear, that we become

CHORUS

Beautiful people
Drop top, designer clothes
Front row at fashion shows
What do you do and who do you know?
Inside the world of beautiful people

Champagne and rolled-up notes
Prenups and broken homes
Surrounded, but still alone
Let’s leave the party

POST CHORUS

That’s not who we are
We are, we are, we are
We are not beautiful
Yeah, yeah that’s not who we are
We are, we are, we are
We are not beautiful

OUTRO

We are, we are, we are
We are not beautiful
