INTERLUDE

(A SHORT DRAMA)

Father: You want to marry a musician, of all the people in the world. Money has been spent on quality education. And you want to marry a musician? A womanizer? They smoke Indian hemp! Carry women all around town, that is whom you want to marry.

Daughter (Acted by Ceec): But daddy I love him now

Father: Love?

OUTRO

Wake up, wake up

Love you, love you
All without the make-up

Kiss you, kiss you without the makeup

THE REVIEW

I love this song. The video is also interesting. The video features Ceec; one time Big Brother NaIja reality show contestant.

But nawa o, funny things happen a lot. It is only at weddings that you will see where a couple or one of them is obviously not smiling/happy but the bride’s maids, groom’s men, decorators, cooks, location manager, musicians and all the invited families and member would shun such couple regardless of their countenance and just be smiling non-stop. Isn’t it clear from this video, that the bride is not happy, but all those attending her wedding na chakapu si eze (As in they were just shining their teeth)

That’s by the way…

So lyrically, the song comes in two verses. The chorus was taken twice as well. The song is a love song and it talks about the artiste “Peruzzi” who wasn’t himself again after someone special to him left him because her parents hated his job as a musician.

The artiste sang basically in Pidgin but fused it with some Nigerian Igbo and Yoruba words. Word like “Nwannem” is an Igbo word which means my Sister/brother while “Ore” is a Yoruba word which means friend.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In the verse 1 “Ore; do do; don’t be shy (My friend, don’t be shy)”, Peruzzi makes us know how much effect a lady (Acted by Ceec) has on him. This lady is special to him and he says she is the only one that he likes to move round with. He can’t do anything without her. He also says the girl is always excited to be around him and doesn’t see him as someone bothering her.

In the chorus, “Wannem if u see the mermaid, her royal majesty (My sibling, if you see the mermaid, her royal majesty)” Peruzzi tells people that the lady he loves is one which you can call “A royal majesty” because she is exciting, great; she is a lady with a high status. He says that kind of girl deserves to be with someone like him. Although there is no line in the song where Peruzzi lets fans know why the lady deserves him. In the true sense, we know nothing about his personality except the obvious fact that he is a musician.

In the verse 2 “I promise to kiss u before u wake up” the artiste vows to love as well as satisfy his lady in all ways. He says the lady is the only one that knows him. He says people accuse him of taking any matter concerning her too personal. He people don’t to run a scan to see how he truly takes her matter personal.

MEANING OF THE SONG MAJESTY BY PERUZZI

Majesty is a love song by Peruzzi. It is a song whereby the artiste is not willing to let the lady whome he so much loves slip off his hands just because her daddy doesn’t approve of his job as a musician. The artiste describes his lady as one that is striking, great and of one with a high status. He says such a lady ought to be with a man like him.

MEANING OF SOME WORDS

Totori means to  excite or tickle someone

Cry a river means to weep copiously

Gum body means to be clingy or to be too attached to someone

Confam means confirm or to verify

LOCATION

The video was shot in Nigeria; they used both indoor and outdoor scenes.

SOUND

Issa melodious beat! Issa speroach beat! The instrumentals were all united. The drums, piano, guitar made the song interesting to the ears. He sang expressively to the beat. This is a well coordinated beat. The rhythm flows well. The artiste has got an appealing and convincing vocal.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

I love the video concept. It tells a story and has a wedding setting. Although I feel at the end of the video, the camera should have also zoomed in Peruzzi also rather than Ceec alone.

The video has a great quality; terrific lighting. It is indeed an interesting visual to watch.  The artiste’s ability to put proper feelings into the song, made the song also lively to watch. The video complements the song. It is a love song and the story is about love.

THE STORY BEHIND THE VIDEO

It is about a lady (Acted by Ceec) who was deeply in love with a guy (Acted by Peruzzi). Because Peruzzi is a musician, Ceec’s father wouldn’t let her marry him as he feels all musicians have the same bad lifestyle; they smoke, womanize and do all sorts of irresponsible thingd. Ceec follows her daddy’s instructions and disentangles from Peruzzi. However, this doesn’t make her happy. She is forced to marry someone  else against her wish.

However on her wedding day, this her prince charming- Peruzzi shows up and they both run away together to a place where no one is able to find them.
