Finally, the video to this controversial tune and dance move is out. Naira Marley had practically taken to his IG to say that only when there are 40, 000 comments on the comment section on the Soapy video teaser before he would release the video. He had over 46 thousand comments, we present to you the review of the song “Soapy” just after you might have taken a gander at the lyrics to the song below.

But before you take a look at the lyrics, do you really feel that the Soapy dance is bad and shouldn’t be archived like Nigerian Queen of Dance- Kaffy said? Do you think this video is worth the wait?

To me, I really see  nothing wrong with the dance. He was not even holding his prick self, but if the video is worth the wait of millions of Nigerians, I will let you know after the review…

THE REVIEW

Nna mhen this song is so brief, about 2 minutes 55 seconds, less than 3 minutes; I love songs that are not too long, it makes repeating interesting. I had to listen to this song countless times to have a proper grasp of what the song is about so that you all can understand the lyrics and the review too.

Lyrically, the song comes in two verses; the verse one has 16 lines while the verse 2 has 14 lines. The pre chorus and chorus were sung twice each. The lyrics are in array. The lyrics are also detailed and are meaningful.  The song talks about dancing “Soapy” irrespective of the situation you are in because that dance is most likely your dance of victory.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In the verse 1, “O t’ese le efo (He stepped on vegetables/voodoos)” Naira Marley talks about the aftermath of his prison experience. If you can recall, he was arrested on the basis that he was into internet crime popularly known as “Yahoo yahoo” in the country after the release of his song “Am I a yahoo boy (View the review here https://ogefash.reviews/2019/06/19/lyrics-translation-music-review-am-i-ayahoo-boy-by-naira-marley-ft-zlatan-jeez-see-y-tch/).

So, Naira Marley goes on to say that people intended to taint his image, harm him and bring him down, but the reverse was the case as he was elevated and super-crowned. He says what saved him from his haters is not voodoos, but his prayer to Allah which he answers. He prays to remain elevated for long.

View some lines below that show his elevation

“Igba ti mo pada de (When I returned)

Loba de mi l’ade (They crowned me)

K’ade ko pẹ l’ori  (May the crown stay long on one’s head)”

Naira Marley also says that everybody has one or two acts in them that make them a thief but it is until when caught red handed that you can basically call the person a thief. This he said in this line

“Ole ni everybody (Everybody is a thief)
Ẹni ilẹ mọ ba ṣa ni barawo  (He who day breaks on is the thief)”

In the Pre-chorus

“Inside Life”  the artiste says in life, some people suffer while some enjoy life. He also says there are people that commit crime but go scot free from their crimes while there are some people who may have committed the same cry or may have not, but they rot in the prison.

The “o ti ri 5 alive” the artiste sang about basically means to be living happy while “O ti ri deeper life” means that one has really gone through a lot of troubles in life.

In the chorus “Jo soapy!” the artiste calls on all to dance soapy irrespective of their predicament. He says whether single, or locked up in Kirikiri or Ikoyi prison, or in EFCC custody, just dance soapy.

In the verse 2 “S’o d’owo mo” He says a dog cannot block a lion’s way. In essence, he may be referring to people who are trying to bring him down as dog while he is the lion, hence the reason he believes they can’t stop him. He vows never to make his mummy cry, except they are tears of joy. If you recall, when he was in prison, his mummy was depressed and in tears. The artiste further says people should rejoice with him and dance soapy with him over his victory.

WHAT IS THE SONG “SOAPY” BY NAIRA MARLEY ABOUT

“Soapy” is a new dance step originated by singer- Naira Marley. It is a dance of victory. He created this dance step to elevate the spirits of people who may be going through one trouble or the other. He enjoins people to dance “Soapy” regardless any unsmiling situation around them.

In essence Soapy talks about dancing in all situations; whether you are in prison or you have no wife or life is difficult or you are already happy, just dance soapy, because it is a dance of victory.

LOCATION

The video was shot in Nigeria.

COSTUME

Prison uniform worn by prisoners

SOUND

I love the beat, very interesting to the ears. The major instruments used basically were drums, guitar, piano and percussion. The rhythm flows very well. The artiste has got a confident and convincing vocal.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

The video was not worth the wait; I expected more from this video. Even the so called soapy- dance he introduced, he did not do much of it in the video. The video also does not have a juicy story line. This is an average-mark video!
