MOVIE REVIEW: POLAR “POLAR BLOODY!”

IG @ ogefashblog

That moment you risk your life to save someone who turns out to be your killer!

When you know that your assassin is the most deadly out of all the ones you have trained, then, don’t you daremess around with him. In the movie “Polar”, don’t you just dare mess with the Black Kaiser aka Duncan Vizla (Acted by Mads Mikkelson) because he is the real merciless assassin!

The movie “Polar” is what the Igbos in Nigeria say “Odi Bloody” as in it is bloody; there was bloodshed in virtually all the scenes of the movie. People were slaughtered brutally; talk about the scenes Black Kaiser slaughtered people with his axe, the scene he nailed the fat man to the wall, the scene he beheaded Mr. Blut (Acted by Matt Lucas) and so on. This film cannot be watched by someone that hates violence because there were indeed too many violent scenes. Too many gory images! Too many nudity and sex scenes!

The movie “Polar” was about “Duncan” a retired assassin from Damocles company; a company owned by Mr. Blut (Acted by Matt Lucas) which basically recruits only killers and retires them at the age of 50 with an attractive pension package. Eight (8) million dollars was supposed to follow Duncan’s retirement from the Damocles Company since he was 14 days away from the retirement age, but Blut chose to assassinate Duncan just like he did to Michael Green (Johnny Knoxville) in order not to pay his pension and so that he can take over his money, but he and his entire crew met their waterloo.

The way those other assassins took out that Michael Green like chicken makes me wonder if he was truly an assassin, ko ti e le rara (As in he is not strong at all). They wanted to use the same method to kill Duncan too, but they all met their waterloo. Blut indeed picked the wrong retired assassin, if he had known, he would have just paid Duncan his money like Vivian (Acted by Katheryn Winnick ) advised him. I feel the money Blut paid those assassins to take out just one man “Duncan” would have even exceeded Duncan’s pension, because these assassins comprising Sindy, Facundo, Hilde, Alexel, Karl, (Acted by Ruby O.Fee, Anthony Grant, Fei Ren, Josh Cruddas and Robert Maillet) went from country to country looking for Duncan in order to kill him. Does it really make sense?

Meanwhile this Duncan aka “Black Kaiser” that they want to take out is a hard nut to crack, he is the ruthless, cruel, wicked, fearless, brutal assassin no one wants to mess with. He is one assassin that has assassinated a lot of people in about 99 countries including Nigeria, Liberia, Australia, Afghanistan, Argentina and so on. He assassinated the family of his female neighbor (Acted by Vanessa Hudgens) who unknown to him wants to take his life too.

However, for one reason or the other, this neighbor has formed a close bond with him and she is unable to pull the trigger.

She charges Duncan that they should find the killers of her family and Duncan vows that they can make an attempt which automatically means Duncan may be going back into crime with this his female neighbor. There is probably going to be a sequel. What ya think?

Moving on, but I love this actor Duncan (Mads Mikkelson); he was of exceptional performance, he really interpreted his role well. Most of the characters played their roles well. I love the cinematography except that some scenes were looking cartoonish, like the scene where that fat man was gunned down; you can view this at the 45 minutes of the movie.

While watching this movie, it was hard to tell the number of days, weeks or months that had passed after a particular scene; the movie was shot in a way that made it look like everything was happening immediately. Although there were lots of night scenes, but it was not properly utilized.

Wait a minute, at the 24 minutes 56 seconds of the film; did that young boy actually walk in on his mother and Duncan having sex? Did he just witness those killings at the 30 minutes 40 seconds of the movie? I hope there was some kind of film trick to that because I feel a child of his age should not be exposed to scenes like that. Also, I did not hear one single word in the scene the young child caught his mummy having sex; it should have been translated.

Funny Dialogue

At the 1 hour 15 minutes of the movie, Hilda said to Duncan, “You would be dead before I leave” and Duncan replied, “In that case, I wouldn’t want you to leave then.”

Costume wise

  • Costumely!

They really did well with his injuries. The scenes Duncan was over tortured was looking so real!

Sound wise

  • Still figuring it out

Just thinking

Why they didn’t translate Duncan’s scene with the prostitute
