(+LYRICS+TRANSLATION+MEANING) MUSIC REVIEW: CROSS ME BY ED SHEERAN FT CHANCE “I DON’T BELIEVE THIS!”

@ogefash

Jeez! After I watched this video, the first question on my lips is “Is this a girl?” I really can’t believe this, if she is a girl, then she is most like to be a tomboy!

Moving on, there is really no stopping musically for EdSheeran; he has just been churning out great tunes for his fans. “Cross me” is another banger like “I don’t care” ft Justin Bieber and I certainly love the song.

Cross me is really a dope track with dope visual. So, on this note, I would like to say, you better don’t cross Ogefash, else, I may give you 50 write-ups to do in a minute #Winks

Take a gander at the lyrics below

LYRICS TO CROSS ME BY EDSHEERAN

 PRE CHORUS

Anything she needs, she can call me
Don’t worry ’bout her, that’s my seed, cause that’s all me
Just know, if you cross her, then you cross me
Cross me, cross me, but if you, if you, if you

Anything she need, she can call me
Don’t worry ’bout her, that’s my seed, cause, that’s all me
Just know, if you cross her, then you cross me
Cross me, cross me, if you, if you

VERSE 1

And she ain’t messing with no other man
Me and her have something different
I really need all you to understand
That nobody’s coming close
I don’t ever wanna run around
I spent my youth jumping in and out
But you know I fucking love her now
Like nobody ever could.

HOOK

You know I stay tripping, am I crazy? Oh no
I’m sticking with my baby for sure
Together or solo
It doesn’t matter where we are, oh no, no
So if you hear about my lady, just know
That she ain’t the one to play with, oh no
I’ll be standing so close
So you know that, ay

PRE CHORUS

Anything she need, she can call me
Don’t worry ’bout her, that’s my seed, cause, that’s all me
Just know, if you cross her, then you cross me
Cross me, cross me, if you, if you, if you

CHORUS

If you cross her, then you cross me
And nobody’s coming close, yeah
And I think that you should know that
If you cross her (anything she need, she can call me)
Then you cross me (don’t worry ’bout her, that’s my seed, cause, that’s all me)
So come on and let it go
Oh, I think that you should know

VERSE 2

And she ain’t messing with no other man
Now what you not gonna do, is stand there, cross for me like you got Kung Fu
Death stare, crossed arms, running your mouth like a faucet
But you don’t know that my girl been doing crossfit
Pew! Kung Pow! Get your ass with a cross kick
Blowing air out, wear you out, you exhausted
Know she gonna slide anytime you bitches talk shit
Keep a lil’ blade in her fucking lip gloss kit, ay
No one say hi to me without her
Better pay your respect to the queen
Better do that shit without a flirt
Gotta respect the HBIC
Couple of things that you need to know
If you still wanna be friends with me

Just know, if you cross her, then you cross me
Cross me, cross me, if you, if you, if you

CHORUS

If you cross her (anything she need, she can call me)
Then you cross me (don’t worry ’bout her, that’s my seed, cause, that’s all me)
Nobody’s coming close, yeah
And I think that you should know that
If you cross her (anything she need, she can call me)
Then you cross me (don’t worry ’bout her, that’s my seed, cause, that’s all me)
So come on and let it go
Oh, I think that you should know (ah, ah!)

HOOK

She stay tripping, and she crazy, oh no
Quit messing with my baby for sure
Together or solo
It doesn’t matter where we are, oh no, no
So if you hear about my lady, just know
That she ain’t the one to play with, oh no
And I’ll be standing so close
So you know that

CHORUS

If you cross her (anything she need, she can call me)
Then you cross me (don’t worry ’bout her, that’s my seed, cause, that’s all me)
Nobody’s coming close, yeah
And I think that you should know that
If you cross her (anything she need, she can call me)
Then you cross me (don’t worry ’bout her, that’s my seed, cause, that’s all me)
So come on and let it go
Oh, I think that you should know

CHORUS/OUTRO

If you cross her (anything she need, she can call me)
Then you cross me (don’t worry ’bout her, that’s my seed, cause, that’s all me)
Just know, if you cross her, then you cross me
Cross me, cross me, if you, if you, if you, oh yeah

DURATION: 3 MINUTES 34 SECONDS

THE REVIEW

Lyrically, the song comes in two verses. The verse 2 (16 lines) is lengthier than the verse 1 (8 lines). The chorus was sung four times, the pre- chorus two times and the hook two times. The lyrics are not properly arranged but the song is meaningful. The song basically talks about how the artistes are overprotective around their loved ones and wouldn’t want anyone or anything to upset her.

The song arrangement: Pre chorus- Verse 1- Hook- Pre chorus- Chorus- Verse 2- Chorus- Hook- Chorus- Chorus/Outro.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In the Pre chorus “Anything she needs she can call me,” we can tell that the artiste his ready to provide anything his loved one needs, because she an integral part of his life. He says if anyone upsets her, the person has also upset him as well.

In the verse 1 “And she ain’t messing with no other man” Edsheeranlets us know that his lady is faithful to him. He says their love story is different from others and that he loves his lady more than anyone could. We see the artiste’s willingness and readiness to be faithful to her. This he sang in the line “I don’t wanna runaround.” He warns people to stay off his lady, else they would have him to contend with.

In the hook “You know I stay tripping, am I crazy? Oh no” we can still tell how over protective he is of the one he loves. We see how he follows her closely in a bid to protect her with or without her awareness, so that no one dares to mess around with her.

In the Verse 2 “And she ain’t messing with no other man” Chance vouches about his lady’s faithfulness to him. He tells people that his lady is capable of handling anyone that wants to mess with her. He says she can deal with those that think they have got kung fu skills and are trying to intimidate her, because she is the “Kung fu” herself. He even sounds a warning to his friends that their friendship with him is dependent in the manner they accord respect to his lady. He says while they are trying to accord her some respect, they shouldn’t dare flirt with her.

In the chorus “If you cross her, then you cross me “ the artiste says if anybody upsets his lady, the person has upset him as well. So, he would be standing close to contend with anyone that annoys her. He also talks about his intention to provide all that his lady wants.

WHAD DOES THE SONG “CROSS ME” BY EDSHEERAN MEAN

The word cross has different meanings, but in the context of this song, “croos” means to annoy or upset someone. It can also mean to make someone go mad, so if you make “her” mad, Edsheeran and Chance would be mad at you.

Crosskick: A kick pass from one side of the pitch to another; Cross: Angry, Annoyed

Run around: To cheat on someone, to be unfaithful in a relationship, move from one place to the other; Faucet: Tap; HBIC: Head bitch in charge

LOCATION

The video was shot in America,. They used both indoor and outdoor scenes.

SOUND

Well coordinated beat! Interesting vibe. When this song started, I thought the entire song was going to be “rap,” not until I heard the chorus and I had to give kudos to them; rap blended with hip hop. The major instruments used; the drum, piano and guitar made the song interesting to the ears. I love Ed Sheeran’s modulation at the 2 minutes 51 seconds of the song. I love the flow of rhythm. I love their vocals; very appealing

VIDEO PRODUCTION

I love the digital effects; great cinematography! It is an interesting video to watch, a video different from others. This is what you call creative camera works! You can also call it teriffic computer works!
