(+LYRICS+TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW: ONE SONG BY FRANK EDWARDS FT DA MUSIC “THIS IS A SAMPLED BEAT FROM…”

@ogefashblog

So, a friend of mine @ Bunmi David needed to know what it takes and the number of hours it takes to do the kind of review we do at Ogefash blog. So, she took her pen and a paper and started to pen down some things about this song. As she was doing that, I asked her how it was going, her reply made me belive that she seemed to be having so much fun doing the write up. However, after about an hour she couldn’t continue despite how interesting she found our method of review to be. What am I trying to say, reviewing a song on this platform takes longer than an hour, as in it takes ample hours, it is okay to use our content to support your work or project, but it is not okay not to acknowledge us @ Ogefash blog @www.ogefash.reviews for the line lifted; no plagiarism biko…

Let’s take a gander at the lyrics below before the main review

THE REVIEW

Dope track! However, the beat looks sampled. So whose beat did he sample? I am still trying to figure it out, but if you know it, common, help fill me in the comment box.

Moving on, hmmm, like seriously, Frank Edward and Da Music just wasted this beat; their lyrics were not fleshy enough like they just did not know what to sing about. If you listen to the 3 Minutes 52 seconds track you would notice that he only sang for about two minutes 30 seconds or even less, the other remaining minutes of the song were empty.

Lyrically, the song comes in two verses taken by Frank Edwards and Da Music respectively, although the artistes repeated the latter part of their verses towards the ending of the song. The predominant thing in the song was the chorus “Ebube Ebube” which talks about God’s glory and wonders. The artiste chanted the “Word” Ebube one hundred and four times (104) in the entire song.

The song basically talks about the artistes’ composition of a sweet song to the Lord just to thank him for his great wonders which is evident in his life. The artiste sang in pidgin but fused it with some words in Igbo.

The song arrangement: Intro- Chorus- Verse 1- Chorus- Verse 2- Chorus- repeat verse 1 (Frank Edwards)- repeat verse 2 (Da Music)- chorus- outro/chorus.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In the intro, “Ebube, ebube, ebube o, ebube” Frank Edward talks about God’s wonders as well as his glory upon his life

In the Verse 1, “E get one song wey I wanna sing o” the artiste talks about composing a melodious sound to the Lord just to praise him. In the song he composed for God, he praises him and calls him “wonderful” and “glorious,” he also sings Halleluiah to God just the same way they reverence God in heaven.

The artiste also talks about God’s superiority, and his awesome work that leaves his creatures in awe. He says God’s presence upon his life transforms everything around him.

Here is Bunmi David’s Verse 1 translation

“In the Verse 1, “E get one song wey I wanna  sing o”  Frank Edward sings praises unto the Most High God with a powerful Hallelujah to his name. He bows to God because of the great things he has done in his life which no one can do. He says wherever he goes to, God’s goodness and wonders upon his life is so palpable that it leaves people in awe.

In the Verse 2, “Halle Halleluiah, na the song me I dey sing to you” Da Music’s composition of sound to God is basically “Halleluiah” He is thankful to God for making his life pleasant. He says God amazes him. He gives a continuous dance to the Lord to show his gratitude.

Here is Bunmi David’s translation of Verse 2

In the Verse 2, “Halle Halleluyah, na the song me I dey sing to you” Da Music says God makes him happy, and that he is who he is today because of God. He gives God unstoppable dance to show his appreciation.

WHAT DOES THE SONG “ONE SONG” BY FRANK EDWARDS FT DA MUSIC MEAN

The song basically talks about the artistes’ desire to compose and render a song to the Lord using the word “Hallelujah” just to show appreciation for God’s wonders upon their lives.

MEANING OF SOME WORDS
Blow one’s mind
– To impress someone so much. To amaze or overwhelm someone, to strongly affect someone or make someone excited.

Ebube: God’s wonders or glory

LOCATION

The video was shot in Nigeria. The video was shot both indoor and outdoor. They used a residential area.

SOUND

That beat sounds familiar but I just can’t place the song right now. It is a hip-hop beat. The major instruments used were the drums, piano and guitar which all blended well to make the song melodious. I love Frank Edward’s vocal more than that of Da Music, it was more appealing and convincing than that of Da Music’s.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

This is a long-shot rather than a close up shot. Perhaps the reason for the long shot is because the song talks about God’s wonders so Frank Edward needed people to see God’s wonders all around. The camera did not really focus on the artistes- Frank Edwards and Da Music, rather it focused on the surroundings to show the luxury of where the video was shot.

In as much as I like the video, I think the lightning could have better. However the video complements the message of the track. The people, the surroundings, vehicles, attires are all luxurious which really show God’s wonders.
