(+LYRICS + TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW: LOW BY LARRY GAAGA FT WIZKID “WHO EXACTLY IS LARRY GAAGA?”

@ogefashblog

Who exactly is Larry Gaaga? I am sure this same question is what is on the lips of many who have listened to his hit songs and now take a liking them. One thing is common with Larry Gaaga; he doesn’t sing but gets artistes to sing on his behalf. Infact what makes me curious about him is the way artistes hail him especially by Slimcase. The way Slimcase hails this Larry Gaaga is not a “hia” something. In Slimcase’s song “Azaman” the way he called “Larry Gaaga” I was thinking he owned the song meanwhile “Azaman” is Slimcase’s song.

In the song “Low” by Larry Gaaga ft Wizkid, Wizkid was the chorus, post chorus and verse of the song; he was the entire song

Moving on, if you listen to this “Low” very well by Larry Gaaga, you will notice that the voice behind that “Larry Gaaga” that was called at the intro of the song was Slimcase. So I ask again, who really is Larry Gaaga? He doesn’t sing o, he doesn’t do anything; any idea, kindly fill me in…

Larry Gaaga seems to me like all this extremely big fish overseas that knows his way and has his way. What ya think?

Whew! Okay take a gander at the lyrics to the song below

THE REVIEW

So like I said in the intro, Wizkid took the whole song from the intro to the outro.

Lyrically, the song comes in two verses. The chorus “Go down on a low” and Post Chorus “Bo ya loma dele” predominated the entire track, they were sung 4 times and 3 times respectively. The artiste sang mostly in pidgin but fused it with few Yoruba words.

The song arrangement: Intro- Verse 1- Chorus- Post chorus- Chorus- Verse 2- Post Chorus- Chorus- Bridge- Post chorus- Outro/chorus.

The song basically talks about how the artiste cherishes a lady and is willing to take care of her financially, materially as well as sexually. It also talks about how the artiste desires a lady sexually and wants them to make-out quietly without letting others know.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In the Verse 1 “Baby say your matter na matter o (For your hands oh yeah)” we can tell that a particular lady has a huge effect on the artiste as he says everything about her is important to him. The artiste cares about her too much and she is the only one that makes him feel in the mood or intoxicated. He just wants to stay with her and touch her amorously.

In the chorus, the artiste says he and his lover should quietly come together and make-out silently so that people around would not hear them or know what they are doing.

In the post chorus “Boya lo ma dele o yeah yeah,” we can tell that the artiste intends to have much fun sexually with his lover without letting her go. He also says he will never take their love matter for granted and he is willing to spend so much on her.

In the Verse 2 “When I buy I buy for two” we can see that the artiste cherishes his lover and takes care of her. To show how important and special she is to him, whenever he acquires anything for himself, he also acquires for her. He cherishes her and can’t explain what she does to him. He says their kind of loving is the type people long to have.

In the Bridge “Baby girl see I want you in my life (nanana),” the artiste emphasizes how much he needs his lover in his life. He promises never to be secretive around her. He also says he would love and stay with her forever.

WHAT DOES THE SONG LOW BY LARRY GAAGA” FT WIZKID MEAN

The word “Low” means quietly, silently; doing something basically without making any sound. In the context of this song, Low means making-out with a lover quietly while you are both enjoying it, or better still, moving slowly without screaming while making-out even though they are enjoying it. Wizkid’s gestures tell it all @ the 37 seconds of the video…

But do people really enjoy sex when it is on the low? I doubt that…

MEANING OF SOME WORDS

On The Low: Something that’s a secret or supposed to be kept a secret.

Ma pariwo: Don’t shout; High– Elevated, Intoxicated; Stagger: To walk unsteadily like almost falling.

LOCATION

I don’t know the country where the video was shot, it seems like London. It was basically an indoor shoot. They set up an empty apartment for this shoot.

COSTUME

They were mostly in white and black attires, which complemented the background of the video. Their costume is okay.

SOUND

The major instruments used in composing the beat were the drums, piano and percussion; these indeed enhanced the beauty of the song. The beat flowed with the lyrics and the artiste was vocal enough. His vocal was also warm.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

I love the video; simple but spectacular. I love the white background, I love the lightning, I love the video quality; great cinematography. Although, those girls’ make up made them look like one….(I can’t figure the word yet, will let you know when I do…)
