ADVERT REVIEW: ONE OF PANADOL EXTRA’S ADVERT “SMILING WITH PAINS? HMM!”
This advert has always been in the catalogue, but one way or the other I just keep shifting it even without watching it. I did not know it was as brief as 20 seconds; just 20 seconds’ pere! Now this is what the English men call “Concise, comprehensible, interesting and catchy” advert…
THE ADVERT
The advert comes only in one scene. Lady A is visited by two of her friends (Lady B and Lady C) who are so full of life, but lady A is not; she is so cheerless. She is too weak to be agile or gist with her friends because she is having a menstrual pain. She tries to manage her body system, but soon breaks down while dishing food for her two friends. Her friends notice her mood and are so concerned about her.
Moments later, we see the lady cheerful and she is able to dish food to her friends that is because she had taken Panadol Extra
ADVERT NARRATION
MESSAGE
Panadol Extra is a pain reliever, but this particular advert centers on the capsule relieving females down with menstrual pain. In essence when you have menstrual pains, and it feels like you are about to kick yourself, don’t do that, kick the menstrual pain out with Panadol Extra and you will be relieved of the pain instantly; it is that effective.
Common don’t be gloomy and inactive over menstrual pains when Panadol Extra is available to relieve you of the pains!
SUMMARY OF THE ADVERT
Pains would naturally make you cheerless, one of such is menstrual pain. A lady who is seeing her menstrual cycle is having pains and suddenly becomes gloomy even while her friends are with her. Her pains make her inactive. However, after taking the Panadol Extra, she becomes active and her mood is lightened up. She becomes cheerful again.
THE REVIEW
The advert comprises three ladies (For the purpose of clarity of this review, we have grouped them into Lady A, Lady B and Lady C) who in my opinion all look alike especially Lady B and C. Perhaps, it is because they have thesame complexion.
This lady A
Moving on, I don’t like the fact that there was no continuity, if you know what I mean. Now a problem has been identified which is menstrual pain and a solution has been proffered which is Panadol extra. So, I was expecting to see Lady A taking the Panadol Extra, not just the aftermath of her taking the capsule.
I love the narrator’s voice, so simple, audible and comprehensible. She was not trying to make any impression or form accent. She was extremely clear.
The whole advert looked real. What am I trying to say? They had a modest look, their hair, makeup, outfit was just okay nothing too flamboyant, once in a while we need adverts like this.
I love the fact that they translated the message and displayed it on the screen.
Panadol Extra is made from the GSK company.
SOUND: Nil
COSTUME: They wore casual. Not too dressy, but that is to be expected since they were all indoor; perfect for the occasion.
JUST WONDERING
- This their sub-message is quite tiny, it is a warning, it should have been displayed in bigger fonts
- I can bet that they had to reshoot this video countless times because Lady A would have smiled several times. She was practically smiling while holding the spoon; that was not too good a acting. Whoever smiles during pains?
REMARK: I love the fact that the advert is straight to the point, no beating around the bush; no too much words. Infact the three ladies did not talk, the narrator did the talking.
