LIVERPOOL VS CRYSTAL PALACE

LIVERPOOL VS CRYSTAL PALACE

Follow Ogefash blog on IG @ogefash_july4

Mohamed Salah scored twice – including his 50th Premier League goal – as Liverpool survived a score by coming from behind to defeat a resolute Crystal Palace in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield.

The Reds led 3-2 as the final whistle of a topsy-turvy match approached, but after James Milner was sent off in the 89th minute for two yellow-card offences, it was a nervy ending as the Premier League leaders desperately tried to hold on to their lead.

The win was ultimately secured when Sadio Mane added a fourth goal in stoppage time, though there was still time for Max Meyer to score a consolation for the visitors.

Liverpool had dominated the vast majority of the first half at Anfield but it was Palace who broke the deadlock through Andros Townsend, who beat Alisson from close range after Wilfried Zaha pulled a cross back.
The hosts came out for the second period with goals on the agenda, and it took just one minute for Salah to equalize before they went ahead seven minutes later through Roberto Firmino.

Palace were not down and out just yet, and James Tomkins capitalised on poor defending to head his side level from a corner.

However, a calamitous error by Julian Speroni – making his first appearance since December 2017 – handed Liverpool an advantage they did not relinquish again, the visitors’ keeper scooping the ball towards his own net for Salah to poke in from on the line.

HUDDLESFIELD VS MANCITY

Huddlesfield vs man city

The chase continues!

Never mind that this was hardly Manchester City at their best, a routine victory over Huddersfield moves Pep Guardiola’s team back to within four points of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

More to the point, another three strikes were added to their bold attempt to break every known goalscoring record.

For Huddersfield the consequence was very different. This was a defeat that leaves them ten points adrift of safety, in danger of a permanent crick in the neck with the effort of looking forever upwards. It was a dire defeat, ripe with evidence of the Premier League’s unbreachable quality gap, which provided a fitting full stop to a week which had begun miserably with the departure of David Wagner. It was somehow in keeping with unhappy circumstance that an intended message from the outgoing manager recorded to thank the fans failed to be broadcast before the game, after succumbing to a technical glitch.

For Mark Hudson; the man who stepped in to hold the fort after Wagner’s departure, there was to be no Ole Gunnar Solskjaer effect. With the Borussia Dortmund coach Jan Siewert set to be appointed later this week, this is likely to be Hudson’s sole match in charge.

But he will have had long enough, pacing the technical area throughout the game to have seen at close hand the reasons why Wagner felt he could do no more.

For all the wonders the German may have delivered in his three and a half years in Yorkshire, he has left Huddersfield with a squad so bereft of quality there is only one direction they are heading. Too many anonymous journeymen delivering too little meaningful application is no recipe for escape. The crowd’s ironic chorus of oles for every successful pass in the game’s dying moments a clear indication of a need to take pleasure where they can.
Not that City were at their scintillating best here. But then they didn’t need to be. For the first ten minutes they seemed oddly reticent, unable to find the right pass to unlock Huddersfield’s determined, if limited, defence. True, Raheem Sterling was furious he wasn’t awarded a penalty after Terence Kongolo brought him down after 12 minutes. And he had a point. Quite how Andre Marriner missed what was clearly a trip by the Huddersfield defender will remain one of the mysteries of the season.Sterling didn’t have long to brood on injustice, however. Five minutes later, Danilo whipped a speculative cross shot into the Huddersfield box. For some reason, Christopher Schindler decided to bow in front of it, as if in supplication, succeeding only in deflecting the ball off the top of his head beyond Jonas Lossl. It was City’s 100 goal of the season in all competitions. Perhaps more pertinently it was the 21 goal recorded since they last con
cluded.

Marcus Rashford scored his 41st goal for Manchester United on his 150th appearance.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the first Manchester United manager to win his first six league games in charge as his side held on to beat Brighton.
It was United’s seventh straight win since the Norwegian took over at Old Trafford on an interim basis a month ago and they are now just three points off fourth-placed Chelsea.

Paul Pogba put United in front after winning and then converting a penalty in the 27th minute.
Marcus Rashford doubled the lead just before half-time with a beautiful solo goal on his 150th appearance for the club.

Tottenham 0 vs Man u 1

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea produced a Wembley masterclass as interim manager Ole Gunnaer Solskjaer made it six wins out of six to damage Tottenham’s Premier League title ambitions.

Marcus Rashford’s low finish from Paul Pogba’s superb pass on the stroke of half-time stretched Solskjaer’s flawless start – but the Norwegian had De Gea to thank for a magnificent display as Spurs laid siege to United’s goal after the break.

The Spaniard made a succession of crucial interventions, 11 in total, including many with his feet, as Spurs tried in vain to avoid a defeat that makes their task of keeping pace with Liverpool and Manchester City even more arduous.

Brighton 0 vs Liverpool 1

Mohamed Salah’s penalty earned Liverpool a gritty 1-0 win at Brighton that moved them seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Having lost their previous two matches in 2019, the Reds were frustrated in a tight first half at the Amex Stadium.

Chelsea 2 vs Newcastle 1

Chelsea had failed to score in their previous two league matches at Stamford Bridge – a 1-0 loss to Leicester and a goalless draw with Southampton – but they netted in the ninth minute when Pedro collected David Luiz’s ball over the top, took a touch, then shot past Dubravka for his seventh goal of the season.

However, with Eden Hazard again featuring as a ‘false nine’ with Olivier Giroud on the bench and Alvaro Morata left out of the squad, they struggled to create further clear-cut chances before Clark equalised, powerfully heading in from Matt Ritchie’s corner.

There were boos heard inside Stamford Bridge at half-time, but Sarri’s side were greatly improved in the second half, with Hazard a much more prominent threat.

The Belgian led Chelsea’s attack, which resulted in their second goal as he ran at the Newcastle defence, offloaded to Willian who, from a tight angle, cut inside onto his right foot and curled a beautiful effort past Dubravka with the ball going in off the post.

With nine minutes left, 18-year-old Callum Hudson-Odoi, the subject of a £35m bid from German champions Bayern Munich , came on for only his second Premier League appearance.

Westham 1 vs Arsenal 0

Declan Rice scored the only goal as West Ham beat Arsenal, while Marko Arnautovic appeared to bid farewell to the London Stadium.

Rice picked a good time to grab his first West Ham goal, powering the ball beyond Bernd Leno from 12 yards three minutes after half-time in a game of few clear-cut chances.

The main talking point came when Arnautovic seemed to wave goodbye to the home fans when he was substituted with 71 minutes played, days after West Ham rejected a £35m bid for the Austrian from an unnamed Chinese club.

Player ratings

Home Team: Fabianski (7), Zabaleta (7), Ogbonna (7), Diop (7), Cresswell (7), Noble (6), Rice (8), Antonio (6), Nasri (7), Anderson (6), Arnautovic (7).

Subs: Carroll (6), Snodgrass (6), Obiang (n/a)

Arsenal: Leno (6), Mustafi (6), Sokratis (6), Koscielny (6), Maitland-Niles (5), Xhaka (5), Guendouzi (6), Kolasinac (5), Iwobi (5), Lacazette (6), Aubameyang (6).

Subs: Ramsey (5), Torreira (6), Bellerin (5)

Man of the match: Declan Rice

Arsenal managed just two shots on target across the whole 90 minutes as their wretched away form continued, leaving them with one win on their travels in their last seven Premier League games.

Unai Emery’s side had shown the greater intent before half-time but lacked the invention to regularly find a way through the home defence, with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang onlookers for long spells of the first half.

Arnautovic appeared to wave goodbye to the home fans when he was substituted

Both sides exchanged cursory efforts early on but Arsenal did carve out the first real opportunity when Lacazette held off Pablo Zabaleta and powered into the box. Lukasz Fabianski saved his first effort from 12 yards, and he skied the rebound over.

Emery has lost back-to-back away games for the first time as Arsenal boss

But with the restored Arnautovic looking untroubled by the speculation around him at the tip of West Ham’s attack, the hosts always had a focal point they could play off and he held the ball up for Samir Nasri, only for the Frenchman to strike the side netting from a tight angle.

Felipe Anderson also came close when Nasri waited for his run and laid the ball into his path 25 yards out, before Matteo Guendouzi rounded off an even, but uninspiring first half by going close from a similar distance.

Team news

West Ham made five changes from their FA Cup win over Birmingham, including a return for Marko Arnautovic and a Premier League return for Samir Nasri.

Unai Emery reverted to the Arsenal line-up which beat Fulham in their last league game, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles on the right of midfield in a 3-4-3.

The second half sprang into life within five minutes of the restart with Nasri, who had been busy before half-time, teeing up Rice after a poor Granit Xhaka header to blast the ball beyond a rooted Leno from 12 yards.

Aubameyang was put off his stride by Aaron Cresswell’s sliding challenge in the box and Alex Iwobi just missed the far post when played in on the left as Arsenal pressed, but they still did not work Fabianski enough.

The arrival of Aaron Ramsey and Lucas Torreira and even the pace of Hector Bellerin off the bench failed to ignite the Gunners’ usual second-half charge, which has seen them pick up eight points in the last 10 minutes of games alone, as the hosts saw out a first victory over Arsenal on home soil since 2006.

Opta facts

The managers

Manuel Pellegrini says he will wait and see what happens with Marko Arnautovic but insists they must do what is right for the club.

Manuel Pellegrini: “I was pleased with the balance and consistence of the team. We did not allow Arsenal any chances despite their quality of players. We played with a mentality of a big team, always going for the second goal.”

Unai Emery says his since created more chances but were not clinical enough in their Premier League defeat to West Ham.

Unai Emery: “It’s a bad results for us. It’s concerning because we need to be competitive at home and away. At home we feel good but away we are not getting the results we want. Today we had to do more to impose our ideas. If we could have been more competitive with more quality we could have done better.”

Man of the match – Declan Rice

Besides scoring the winner, Rice did a brilliant job anchoring the West Ham midfield, often doing the legwork of both himself and Mark Noble, who struggled to keep up with the pace of the game on the few occasions Arsenal got going.

Rice celebrated his goal passionately with his team-mates

He won the ball back more times (10) than anyone else on the pitch, but he never shied away from the ball either, scoring the only goal of the game and of his team-mates only Noble and Anderson had more touches over the 90 minutes.

“I’m trying to think of a defensive midfielder in the Premier League who does it better than him,” said Sky Sports guest and West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere.

“I’m not saying he’s the best in the league because he’s got a long way to go, but he’s on the right track. His reading of the game, his maturity and today I saw a bit more – he wanted to go forward more and he can bring that to his game.”

What’s next?

West Ham travel to Bournemouth next Saturday at 3pm, shortly before Arsenal face another London derby with Chelsea at the Emirates at 5.30pm.

CARLING CUP

Tottenham 1vs Chelsea 0

Spurs defeat Chelsea through a controversial penalty.

Harry Kane’s first-half penalty gave Tottenham a slender advantage after the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Wembley.

Referee Michael Oliver awarded the 26th minute spot-kick after consulting VAR for offside and Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s foul on Kane.

Spurs and Chelsea both had chances in a fiercely fought contest and Blues’ manager Maurizio Sarri will feel this tie is still very much alive before the second leg at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, 24 January.

Chelsea hit the woodwork twice in the first half through N’Golo Kante’s near-post flick, and when Spurs keeper Paulo Gazzaniga athletically turned Callum Hudson-Odoi’s deflected cross onto the post.

Andreas Christensen missed a glaring opportunity from six yards after the break while Arrizabalaga also produced a fine save from Kane as this semi-final remains in the balance.

Man city 9 vs Burton 0

Pep Guardiola said his Manchester City team would take the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg “seriously” after his side beat Burton 9-0.

Gabriel Jesus scored four times, with further goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and Riyad Mahrez.

The second leg, merely a formality, takes place on Wednesday, 23 January.

“The result was good and of course we are already in the final but we have to play the second leg,” said Guardiola.

The win at Etihad Stadium was the largest winning margin in the semi-final of the competition, and the widest victory in the tournament in more than 32 years – since Liverpool beat Fulham 10-0 in a second-round first-leg tie in September 1986.

FA CUP

Man u 2 vs Reading 0

Manchester United won their fifth straight game under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they beat Reading in the FA Cup – but there was VAR confusion in the first half.

Fred’s goal was ruled offside but United were awarded a penalty for a foul on Juan Mata in the build-up.

The Spaniard scored from the spot, before Romelu Lukaku doubled their lead.

FA CUP RESULTS

Arsenal 3vs Blackpool 0

Arsenal cruised through to the FA Cup fourth round with teenager Joe Willock scoring twice at Blackpool.

The 19-year-old striker headed in after Aaron Ramsey’s free-kick hit the post and tapped in another before half-time.

League One Blackpool struggled to keep pace with the Gunners, whose arrival at Bloomfield Road was delayed when a protestor sat on top of their bus.

But after Armand Gnanduillet went close, they improved after the break before Alex Iwobi’s late finish.

Transfer news

Chelsea FC complete the signing of Christian PulisicChelsea have made two big statements by wrapping up a €64 million (£57.6m, $73.1m) deal for Borussia Dortmund forward Christian Pulisic. First and foremost, they have reminded football’s biggest clubs that they remain a powerful force in the transfer market, an outfit with the ambition and capability to beat their rivals to the signature of a rising star such as the 20-year-old Pulisic.

Jemaine Defore to Rangers on loan.

Rangers are poised to sign Bournemouth’s former England striker Jermain Defoe on an 18-month loan deal.

The 36-year-old has been restricted to just four substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and hasn’t scored since the end of March.

Aaron Ramsey to Juventus

Arsenal’ s Aaron Ramsey has signed a pre – contract with Juventus and could even officially join the team this month, according to reports in Italy .

On Wednesday , Juve director Fabio Paratici had said the Italian champions were “ monitoring ” the Wales international’ s transfer situation , with his Arsenal contract set to come to an end at the end of this season.

Newcastle 0 vs Man u 2

Man u go on a 4 game unbeaten run under a new manager Man Utd go from strength to strength under Solskjaer

After convincing wins over Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth, this was Manchester United’s sternest test under Solskjaer.

They lost the corresponding fixture last season 1-0 but came through this examination while keeping a first clean sheet in eight top-flight matches.

This was another high-octane, attacking performance from a team that has come alive under the caretaker manager.

TRIBUTE TO MRS.PERPETUA ONYISI OLISA CHUKWUMA BY HUSBAND~JOHN OLISA~CHUKWUMA “KU NI OTO!”

TRIBUTE TO MRS. PERPETUA ONYISI OLISA CHUKWUMA BY HUSBAND~JOHN OLISA~CHUKWUMA

Perpetua Onyinyechukwu Onyisi a.ka Omo Jesu, you have left me in tatters, despondency, melancholy and total despair. Death, you shameless phenomenon with your pang took my beloved friend, sister, confider, counselor, better half, mother and wife away. Shameless you- Death! I fear not your anguish, what more? You have done an irreplaceable damage to me but her resplendent face even in agony kept me alive.

How can I move on without you? What is the meaning of life without you? How do I cope with the adorable children you left behind? How can I do it alone without you? Death, show your surreptitious face at this moment! For you cannot do more than you have done.

Our meeting was not fortuitous. We grew together in strong bond physically and spiritually.  We shared our visions, hopes, aspirations and yearnings together. I particularly recall with nostalgia our fifteen years and eleven months of our blissful conjugation. More or less, it seemed like five minutes. Youloved visitations with the entire family. my queen, since you took ill, our Sunday rituals (visitations) especially to “Yeyeness” Maltida Odekunle aged 103 years, has been truncated. How would I be able to explain to Yeye of your painful demise? Wht about all the friends and extended families you have touched one way or the other? How do I explain to them the great chasm you left behind? I have continuously searched for answers.

You are a rare gem and multifarious in nature. You combined sheer athletism with academic brilliance. You had an insatiable quest to develop personnel. An indefatigable teacher and coach! Your set objective was to train Nigerian teachers in Montessori Management dynamics to impact our children from the cradle. Through this, you touched many lives and empowered many more.

You were a community developer and selfless. The motherless babies homes and destitude community shall agonize over your demise. How do I provide them succour? The shoes you left behind are too big to fill. What a vacuum! Your professionalism, charity, knowledge, piety, charm and diligence stand you out.

Onyisi! Onyisi! Onyisi! Get up from this deep slumber and walk with me again. Walk with me, with our lovely children Olisamedua, Ekenedilichukwu, Ifunayachukwu and Ngozichukwuka to our destination. You have not reached the Golan heights we await you. Such are the wonders of your Maker who decides fate. I cannot question him, instead, I am grateful to him for making our paths cross.

The community of worshipers in our great parish St Dominics Catholic Church is filled with your imprints. As a lector, you participated actively in all religious functions. This always gladdens my heart each time you had the opportunity to honour the biblical readings. Each time you did, your voice resonated and filled the entire church. i was always joyous and full of your praise. little did I know that i would have plethora of explanations to make to tge brothers and sisters you left to grief over you in our parish.

Who would bring back the bliss to me each time I attended mass Onyisi? Kun ni oto !(Means: Wake up) This is not how you intended to say your bye to your entire family, great parishioners, home and abroad.

You were brave, bold and un-phlegmatic. Your smiley face remains your hallmark. You never ceased to amaze with your kindness and hospitality. i cannot thank you enough for making part of the Nwabueze family a treasure dear to my heart. If for nothing, you fought courageously to keep the family intact, but death had other plans. Oh death! Show your face, show your claws, show your ruthlessness, but you would rather hide like a coward you are.

Onyisi, you have conquered death as you have joined the Saints triumphant in the eternal blossom of God.

Rest in peace my beloved wifey and Queen

Till we meet again to part no more!

Onyisi! Je si kein

TRIBUTE TO MRS. PERPETUA BY CHILDREN- SONTOCHUKWU, EKENEDILICHUKWU, IFUNANYA AND ZARA

Dearest mummy, why did you leave so soon? We would never have believed this will ever happen in a million years. Words cannot explain how terribly shocked we are. Our only reassurance is that you have gone to meet our Heavenly Father and joined all the saints in boundless sea of love. While you were on earth, you were the best mum anyone could ever have. You cared for all your children, you loved them, you were a fighter and you taught us to never give up. You were beautiful, intelligent and loving, these characters are very hard to find especially in our country, Nigeria. We miss you and everything about you from your smile to your laugh; you will never be forgotten in our lives. Even though you have left us in the physical, you have not left us in the spirit, you remain with us in the form of our family and friend. You will remain in our hearts forever. It will never feel the same without you. We miss you and will love you forever.

                                                         OTHER TRIBUTES

TRIBUTE TO MRS. PERPETUAL OLISA-CHUKWUMA BY DUMEBI AYENI AND OGE NWABUEZE

“Ring Ring” My phone rang one morning and I picked it up. It was my dad Mr. Ashuayin Nwabueze. From his voice, I could tell something was amiss.

“….Something tragic happened, bad news…” he finally managed to say in our dialect.

The way he uttered the word my intuition told me it was not sickness, accident, loss of money but death.

Forgetting that my dad already mentioned the word “bad” before “news”, I started hoping that it was the death of the entire Boko- haram squad in Nigeria and all those wicked murderers both in Nigeria and all over the globe.

With a heavy heart he finally let it out “Perpetual is no more” still in our dialect. It was hard to believe it was your Perpetual, so I started visualizing different Perpetual with unknown faces in my head refusing to believe that it was you.

You were such a beautiful soul that no one would have envisaged your death in a semi-centennial. Your name neither fitted yet into the book of the dead nor your beautiful face in the catalogue of the dead. Because you were:

P– Pacific; E– Ebullient and energetic; R– Resolute and religious; P– Proficient; E– Elegant

T– Top-notch; U– Unmatched; A– Assiduous; L– Loving

It is still so hard to believe that you are no more.  Ashuayin and Maria Nwabueze; Azubuike Nwabueze and family; Augusta Adeleye and family; Dumebi Ayeni and family; Oge Nwabueze are still in shock and pained about your death.  They all said you were not only obliging but unparalleled.

I thought I had be writing a “Tribute” to you on the establishment of your school which I prayed to God about for you and secretly nurtured the desire to work with a brilliant and focused mind like you.

Why shouldn’t I pray for the establishment of your own school?  You were such a terrific builder which is evident in the years you spent first as a teacher and then as the headmistress of Heritage School.

I love you; we love you cousin, the whole Nwabuezes love you, the whole Olisa-Chukwumas love you, Nigerians love you, the world love you, but God loves you more. Again, it is hard to believe that you are no more. It is hard to believe that when people say “Rest in Peace” for those that are gone, you are among them. It is hard to believe that when we talk about you, it would be in the past tense, but your terrific impact and impart will never be forgotten in a hurry .

The whole thing still seems to me like a dream; can someone please wake me up!

(+LYRICS) MUSIC REVIEW: YOU SAY BY LAUREN DAIGLE “COULD IT BE MY EARS? THIS SONG SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE…”

(+LYRICS) MUSIC REVIEW: YOU SAY BY LAUREN DAIGLE “COULD IT BE MY EARS? THIS SONG SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE…”

The song “You say” is a song by gospel artiste- Lauren Daigle. Take a gander at the lyrics below…

LYRICS TO YOU SAY BY LAUREN DIAGLE

VERSE 1

I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up
Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?
Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know (Ooh oh)

CHORUS

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing

You say I am strong when I think I am weak

You say I am held when I am falling short

And when I don’t belong, oh you say I am yours

And I believe (I), oh I believe (I)

What you say of me (I)

I believe

VERSE 2

The only thing that matters now is everything you think of me
In you I find my worth, in you I find my identity, (Ooh oh)

CHORUS

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing

You say I am strong when I think I am weak

You say I am held when I am falling short

And when I don’t belong, oh you say I am yours

And I believe (I), oh I believe (I)

What you say of me (I)

Oh I believe

VERSE 3

Taking all I have and now I’m laying it at your feet
You have every failure God, you have every victory (ooh oh)

CHORUS

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing

You say I am strong when I think I am weak

You say I am held when I am falling short

When I don’t belong, oh you say I am yours

And I believe (I), oh I believe (I)

What you say of me (I)

I believe

Oh I believe (I), yes I believe (I)

What you say of me (I)

I believe (Oh)

BEATZ

DURATION: 4 MINUTES 30 SECONDS

THE REVIEW

Lyrically, the song comes in three verses. The Chorus was sung three times. The song is meaningful and the lyrics are well written. It talks about believing in/ accepting the name God associates with you or who God says you are rather that what the world says or thinks about you; hence the title of the song “You say”

BREAKDOWN OF THE VERSES

In the verse 1, “I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough” Lauren Daigle says she overcomes words of discouragement that come to her mind.

The artiste overcomes false impression that she would never be as good as others or that she would never be able to attain a great feat. In  her struggles to fight discouragement, she implores God to tell her again of the identity he bequeathed to her; that is of who he says she is

“Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?” Can’t decipher this line for now, if you can, kindly fill in the comment box

In the chorus, “You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing” the artiste says even though she thinks of herself in a negative way, when she thinks she is not capable or thinks otherwise of herself; that is, when she thinks herself of something different from what God thinks of her,  God reverses it for her and says something good about her. God is always there to assure her of who she truly is and she believes in his words.

For instance, when she thinks she is feeble, God says she is strong, when she is not acting up to expectations or not doing the right thing, God is always there to guide her. God still loves her and assures her that she is his child.

In the verse 2, “The only thing that matters now is everything you think of me” the artiste is finally convinced that what God says or thinks about her matters more than what she or anyone in the world thinks about her. She says with God, she finds her true identity.

In the verse 3, “Taking all I have and now I’m laying it at your feet” the artiste says she surrenders all to God who has the ultimate power to do and undo. He has power over everything; he can make someone that has always been seen as a failure victorious. He conquers impossibilities and makes one triumph.

WHAT DOES THE SONG “YOU SAY” BY LAUREN DAIGLE MEAN

Just like the title of the song “You Say”; it means a spoken word. The song is a basically about God’s spoken words to the artiste or men that that spoken by humans. The song talks about having an assurance in who God says you are. God is the ultimate, his words are final, hence believing in the identity he has given to you matters more than anything. Irrespective of troubles that may come your way, there would always be victory.

MEANING OF WORDS

Measure up- To be good as others,  to meet expectations

Falling short– Not acting up to expectations; Identity– One’s name, what one is associated with

LOCATION

It has both indoor and outdoor scenes.  But a house was used.
SOUND

Very tuneful! But is it just me, could it be my ears alone, the song has the beat of one of Adele’s songs. It sounds exactly like “Someone like you” by Adele. The song is a slow mid tempo.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Those lights coming in through the window were quite blinding, if you know what I mean. It was quite distracting as well. The video was not too spectacular.

DURATION: 8 MINUTES 13 SECONDS

THE REVIEW

I just love this song, so spirit filling. I love the fact that the entire congregation was on fire for God; they were all spirit filled. They were all connected to God. Although, I am still wondering why the whole place was dark, I thought that only happened during drama. Well, better idea, kindly fill in the comment box

Lyrically, the song comes in one verse though it was repeated just once. The part that dominated the song was the pre-chorus where  the artistes sang “Make me a vessel” It was sung 5 times, while the chorus was sung 4 times. It is a well composed song. Well chosen lyrics that are soul lifting. It talks about God bringing out something good in one. It was sung in English

BREAKDOWN OF THE VERSES

In the verse 1, “In the crushing, in the pressing, you are making, New Wine” the artistes say that the tribulation and challenges is just a temporary phase. They know and believe it won’t last forever because God is on their case; he is renewing them and would give them a better life.  More like a reborn. God is preparing them for great things.

The artistes also surrender all to God because they know God will always look after his children. They totally have confidence in his plans for them.

In the pre-chorus, “Make me your vessel, make me an offering” the artistes after surrendering their lives to God implore God to make them that which is suitable for him. They ask God to tell them what he wants them to be or do and they will obey. The artistes also say that they came empty but God has filled them to the brim. They further ask God to make them carry fresh anointing and bring out something good in their body.

“Make me an offering” in the song may mean that God should suggest or counsel them on what he wants them to be because they would like to do God’s will and not their own will. It may also mean that God should make them a generous giver or he should make them give only that which would cost them and not that which would not cost them.

In the chorus, “‘Cause when there is new wine, there is new power” the artistes say that when there is fresh anointing, when there is something good in them, they would be strengthened, renewed and would be able to achieve greater feat for his kingdom. The artistes also say that they are letting go of their old flames for new fire today. In essence, they want new anointing, they want the spirit of God to fall afresh on them.

WHAT DOES THE SONG NEW WINE BY HILLSONG ABOUT?

This is no doubt a gospel song by the popular band- Hillsong. The artistes surrender their all to God and ask him to bring something good out of them. They want God to mold them into what he desires of them. They ask for more strength and anointing to do his work. They ask God to renew them; all they ask in order to achieve greater feat for the kingdom of God.

MEANING OF SOME WORDS

Crushing: Pressed down, ruin, to be subdued, press; Yield: To surrender

New wine: New life, afresh, refill; something good.

SYNOPSIS TO THE MOVIE CRAZY RICH ASIANS

Rachael Chu (Acted by Consatance Wu) is a young economic professor deeply in love with Nick Young (Acted by Henry Golding) who unknown to her is from a very wealthy background in Singapore. She believes that Nick is in the average class and accepts him the way he is, but however she is left in doubt about his status when  one day Nick implores her to travel with him back to his home to attend  his best-friend and fiance’s- Collins and Araminta (Acted by Chris Pang and Sonoya Mizuno) wedding as well as meet his family. They do not only travel on a first class ticket but he is accorded immense respect.

Rachael on getting to Singapore battles not only with relatives of Nick who think she is a gold digger, or Nick’s ex who also want the humble bachelor back, but his mum- Eleanor (Acted by Michelle Yeoh) who feels Rachael is the reason his son-Nick doesn’t want to return home to Singapore to take over the family business. This makes her resent Rachael after meeting her coupled with the fact that she feels she is too ambitious.

Eleanor goes as far as digging deep into her background and what she discovers threatens the relationship Nick has with Rachael. Nick is torn between choosing his love- Rachael or his family/business. What would be his choice?

Find out below how the story unfolds…

PLOT

It is the year 1995; the family of Young acquires a big property (An hotel) in London. They visit the hotel and demand that the front desk officers should show them to their room after a long flight. The front desk officers however refer them to another hotel with the excuse that there is no more space. The manager shows up and also reiterates what they said. He says they are fully booked and sarcastically advices them to explore China town oblivious that the Young already acquired the place. However, Eleanor Young accompanied with her family (Acted by Michelle Yeoh) go outdoors to put a call through to the custodian of the place after they refuse her from calling with the hotel phone. When they enter the hotel back, the manager- Rechinelles Oyest been threatens to call the police to arrest them. But the custodian shows up and announces to the manager and others that the family of Young is the new owner of the place as he and his family already sold ot to them.

IT IS 2018 NOW!

Rachel Chu (Acted by Constance Wu) is an Economics Professor at the New York University. While lecturing, she brings out a student and with the use of cards explains a particular topic for better understanding. After her lecture, her boyfriend Nick Young (Acted by Henry Golding) walks in.

While lunching at the Cafe, Nick Young seizes the opportunity to tell his Professor girlfriend- Rachel Chu about his best friend’s wedding- Collins Khoo (Acted by Chris Pang) to Araminta Lee (Acted by Sonoya Mizuno) coming up soon. He implores her to accompany him to the wedding as well as also meet all his family members. Rachel Chu agrees to it oblivious that Nick Young is actually from a very wealthy background. While Nick and Rachel are chatting, a gossiper- Radio one Asia also known as Celine (Acted by Constance Lau) sights Nick and immediately identifies him as the heir of the wealthiest family in Singapore. She sees his acquaintance with Rachel Chu and concludes that she is his girlfriend. She finds a way to stylishly snap them and upload on the internet.  She also adds that Nick will be bring Rachael to Collin’s wedding.  Few minutes later, the news is all over the world that Nick Young is dating Rachel Chu and the picture of the kiss they shared at the café also goes viral

Meanwhile, Eleanor Young (Acted by Michelle Yeoh), who is the mother of Nick and some women are studying the word of God when they also see the gist on Nick’s relationship with Rachel Chu of New York.  This worries Eleanor as she is not certain if Rachel is the lady her son-Nick wants to bring home as wife or just another girlfriend. She excuses herself from the women and goes to call his son who is still at the café with Rachel. She confirms from him if he is going to be bringing a woman to the wedding and he says yes. Nick is puzzled as to know how his mum was able to find out, but as soon as he sees Radio One Asia, he figures it out. Eleanor young tells her son- Nick that she looks forward to having him back at home even though she says she is fixing the house and it is not ready for guest when Nick tells her that he and Rachel will be staying in his room. Eleanor suggests to the son that Rachel should stay somewhere else, as she would be more comfortable there.

Rachel’s mum- Kerry Chu (Acted by Tan Kheng Hua) is picking some clothes for Rachel that will be suitable to meet her boyfriend’s family.  Rachel initially picks a blue and whie gown but her mum says it is best for Chinese funerals. After several searches, Kerry Chu finally picks a red gown for her as she says it symbolizes good fortune and fertility. Kerry tells her daughter-Rachel that she may actually come back home with a souvenir- Ring and Rachael tells her mum that she doesn’t know Nick’s family.  Rachel feels anxious about meeting Nick’s family because she hardly knows anything about them. Her mum pacifies her and tells her that he probably doesn’t want to say much about the family because he is embarrassed about their background or they are not too rich and he sends money to them often, oblivious that they are well endowed.

At the airport, Rachael is bemused that they are flying on First class instead of Economy as she feels neither she nor Nick can afford it. She asks Nick about it and he says his family has business with the airline and flying on first class is part of the business pack. Nick soon tells Rachael that they are wealthy but he doesn’t emphasize how wealthy they are. Rachael asks him to tell her about his family since she would be meeting them. Nick tells her about his cousins- Alistair Cheng (Acted by Remy Hii), Eddie Cheng (Acted by Ronny Chieng) and Astrid Young Teo (Acted by Gemma Chan). Alistair Cheng works in Taiwan in the movies. He  is dating an actress Kitty Pong (Acted by Fiona Xie) who people think she is a terrible actress but keeps getting  movie roles, since her rich boyfriend Alistair Cheng finances the movies. Eddie Cheng (Acted by Ronny Chieng) is a big finance guy in Hong Kong. Astrid Young (Acted by Gemma Chan) is a fashion Icon. She is down-to-earth and lovable. Nick says he is closer to her than his other cousins because she has the biggest hearts

Rachel asks Nick while they would be staying at the hotel after saying so much about his families, but he tells her that he just wants her to himself.

Nick and Rachael finally arrive Changi airport Singapore. His best friend and fiancé- Collins and Araminta welcome them to Singapore.  They stop by at the café to dine.  While Collins and Nick chat, Araminta and Rachael do the same. Araminta invites Rachael to her bachelor’s party and she agrees to be there. Araminta tells Rachael that Nick is extremely elated because she is in his life and also home with him though Rachael feels he is happy because he is home with people he has always known.

Astrid returns home and asks her maid (Junji Delfino)  if her husband Michael (Acted by Pierre Png) is already home. But the replies no and tells her that her son is awake and wants to see her. After Astrid finishes reading a storybook to her son, she and her husband- Michael who is now back home have a chat. Astrid reminds Michael about the wedding activities coming soon. She also tells him that she likes Nick’s girlfriend who would also be at the wedding. Michael feels the reason Astrid likes Rachael is only because she is a commoner like him although Astrid disapproves of his words. Moments later, Astrid gives him the wristwatch he bought for her and he thanks her for it.

Nick and Rachel wake up at the sound of the alarm. Rachel tells Nick that she would hook up with her long time friend- Peik Lin Goh (Acted by Akwafina) while Nick reminds her that she will be meeting with his family also.

Rachael finally hooks up with her college friend- Peik Lin Goh and she meets with her family as well. They talk at length while dining. Mr. Wye Mun Goh (Acted by Ken Jeong) thanks Rachael for helping Peik back in school days as he feels Peik would have been a mess without her. But Rachael instead tells Peik’s father that it is the other way round because she would have been a mess without Peik’s help. Mr.Goh compares the two friends and sees that she is better than his daughter in terms of achievement.  He attempts to match make his son P.T Goh (Acted by Calvin Wong) with Rachel but Peik tells her father that the reason she is in Singapore is because of her boyfriend. In their discussion, Rachael tells them the name of her boyfriend and this puzzles them. Peik and family make her realize how wealthy the family of Nick is. They let her know that the family of Young is the biggest developer in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and New Mexico. She is however indifferent. Peik Lin and family disapprove the outfit she intends to wear to the dinner party at Young’s place. Peik Lin finds Rachel a better cloth and shoes.

Peik Lin drives Rachael Chu down to the house of Nick Young and his family. They are both stunned by their magnificent building. When they arrive Nick’s place, Nick  welcomes them with joy. He invites Peik Lin for the dinner too and she willingly accepts after fronting. Peik Lin goes to her boot and retrieves  a cloth suitable for the occasion. On her way to the bathroom to change, she takes a whole lot of selfies while Nick locates his mum- Eleanor Young and introduces Rachael to her.  Eleanor apologizes to Rachael for her husband- Philip Young’s absence who has gone for a business meeting. Nick speaks well of his girlfriend- Rachael to his mum- Eleanor. He tells her that Rachael is a Professor of Economics and that she is the youngest faculty member in the University where she lectures. This makes Eleanor curious about Rachael’s family education background. She asks Rachael if her parents are academics like her and she replies no. She however tells the inquisitive woman that her dad died before she was born and her mum did not go to college.  Eleanor calls Rachael a self made woman and tells her that her mum would be proud of her. From Eleanor’s manner of conversation, Rachel tells Nick that his mother hates her.

Nick introduces Rachel to most of his family members. Some try to intimidate her in terms of class while some are very welcoming. Meanwhile, Astrid gets to find out that her husband Michael is having an affair after an erotic message enters his phone “The bed feels empty without you”

Rachel mistakenly spills her drink on Nick so he goes to change. Oliver T’sien (Acted by Nico Santos) keeps her company. Peik Lin soon joins both Oliver and Rachael and they chat away. As they walk around, Rachel notices that many people are staring awkwardly at her, so she tells Oliver who says they are only jealous of her.

Nick goes over to change in his room and his mum joins him shortly after. She finds him another shirt, they also discuss Rachel briefly. Eleanor doesn’t seem okay with Rachael. She says Rachael is a Chinese American and she feels pursuing one’s passion like Rachael is doing is so American. Nick however tells his mum that he still wants to figure some things out about her.

Nick introduces Rachael to his grandma- Ah Ma/Shang Su Yi (Acted by Lisa Lu). Rachael tells Ah MA that Nick tells her a lot about her dumplings. Grandma Ah Ma promises to teach her how to make them as well. Grandma tells Nick that he has become skinny and Nick says it is because he misses her food.

A family member tells Eleanor Young that her son- Nick is so different after coming back home. Eleanor replies her that children always forget who they are when they are away from home for long.

At Collin’s bachelor party, both Eddie and Alistair Cheng take a swipe at Nick for his choice of bride because Rachael is not as rich as them. Nick in anger tries to fight them but Collins calms him.

At Araminta Lee’s bachelorette party, Rachel meets Amanda Ling (Acted by Jing Lusi) oblivious that she is Nicks ex girlfriend. The ladies have immense fun as there are a whole lot of free expensive items for them such as clothes, accessories and so on. The other women except Rachael and Amanda rush to get the goodies. Although, Rachael picks only one dress, while Amanda pick jewelry for herself and Rachel.

Nick while with his friend Collin reveals to him that he is ready to propose to his girlfriend-Rachel, he shows him the ring. Collins is  wondering if it is possible for them to be together since Rachael loves her job in New York and would want to return to it while Collins is expected to stay back in Singapore since he is the shining heir to the Young conglomerate. Collins thinks he is walking away for his cousins Alistair and Eddie to take over his Family business, but Nick tells him that he is not walking away. Collins believes that everyday is going to be a struggle if he marries Rachael.

Collins fiancé- Araminta Lee  takes all the ladies to the spa. At the Spa, Amanda reveals to Rachael that he is Nick’s ex-girlfriend and that Nick’s family wanted both of them to marry. Amanda also tells Rachael that Nick is back in Singapore for good to take over the family business, but Rachael corrects her that they would be returning to New York after the wedding. Amanda keeps on telling Rachael about Nick and his family. She says he has a lot of pressure from his family- business wise and the woman to date. She commends Rachael for her guts. Rachael soon gets uncomfortable with their chat and the insults being passed across by other girls at the spar, so she leaves the place. On her way, she mistakenly bumps into Astrid not even aware that she is Astrid. Astrid identifies her immediately and calls her. They both go to Rachael’s room where they find a nasty message on her window “Catch this, you gold digging bitch” as well as with some blood stains of a smelling fish on the bed. The gory acts make Rachael scream. Astrid intends calling the security, but Rachael stops her from doing that as she says she wont make a scene. When outdoor, Astrid reveals to Rachael that her husband-Michael is cheating on her. Rachel calms her.

The bachelor party is over and Nick and Rachael are together. Rachael narrates her ordeal at the party to Nick. She tells him that Amanda says people see her as the evil person that is stopping Nick from returning to Singapore. She tells Nick that people think she is after the family fortune. She also tells him about the bloody fish stain the girls put on her bed. She tells Nick that she feels like a villain in a soap opera who is planning to steal his family fortune. Rachael is angry with Nick fo not telling her about his family. She feels he was testing her. He apologizes to her and says they would get through everything. Nick tells Rachael that he likes who he is when he is with her. He says she is different from other women he grew up with. Rachael however makes Nick know that she doesn’t care about his wealth.

Rachael and Nick’s family are making some dumplings and they reminisce on their growing up. Rachael admires Nick’s large family and their togetherness since she never had a large family she was close to except her mum. She commends them. Rachael admires Eleanor’s ring and she says her husband made it when he proposed to her. Rachael inquires from Eleaonr how they met but Nick replies her instead. Nick tells Rachel that her parents met at Cambridge while studying law together. But Eleanor instantly corrects  him and says she withdrew from the university when she married her husband because she wanted to help him run a business as well as raise a family. She tells Rachael that she sees it as a privilege even if she sees it as old fashion. She further tells Rachael that the togetherness that she admires about their family is because hey put family first instead of chasing one’s passion. There is quietness in the room.  Just then, Grandma Ah Ma comes around,  she is happy to see Rachael again, but she condemns Eleanor’s dumplings.

Eleanor stumbles on Rachel and tells her the full and true story behind the ring her husband made her. She says Ah Ma- her husband’s mother did not approve of their relationship because she was not her choice for her son- Philip Young. Eleanor says she and her family did not have the connection so Ah Ma turned her down and didn’t give her son- Philip the family ring so he had to make one for her.  It was years after that Ah Ma started blending with her. Having narrated her story, Eleanor tells Rachael that she would never be enough for her son- Nick.

While driving back to the hotel, Nick tells Rachael that he grew up with his grandma. He also notices her change of mood and ask if she is okay, but she replies yes not wanting to tell him what his mother had said.

Rachel and her college friend- Peik Lin hook up and she narrates her experience with Nick’s mother Eleanor. Rachael tells Peik Lin that she would tell Nick that she has stomach upset so she won’t attend the wedding. Peik Lin feels she is scared, so she tells her not to be scared of Nick’s family but stand up to whatever they throw her way. She advices her to get Eleanor not just to like her but to respect her  as a self confident professor and super sophisticated professor of game theory.  Rachael makes up her mind to swerve like a chicken if Eleanor and her family attacks her again but to stand up to them.

Peik Lin and Oliver styles Rachel for the wedding after which they all head for the wedding.

Astrid and her husband- Michael are on their way to the wedding. He talks non-stop about his business trips. One of his trips happen to be on his son’s birthday- Cassain (Acted by Joe Ong) which he says he would miss. Astrid finally reveals to Michael that she knows he is having an affair. Astrid says they would talk more about it after the wedding rather than create a scene. Meanwhile, Michael says he is tired of trying to measure up to his family. Michael exits the car afterwards.

Rachael locates Nick’s family and moves close to greet them. Eleanor tells Rachael that the row they would be sitting is already full. Rachael sights Princess Intan (Acted by Kris Aquino) who has a row to herself  and approaches her. She praises Princess Intan’s articles in the great economic journal. Princess Intan tells Rachael that she received a lot of criticism on the last article she had written.  Rachael however feels the critics missed the real point in her article.
