So, maybe you should tell me rather than wait for my own reason why “You” as an OAP and DJ  don’t play this “Gina” song often? This song is dope and should not be found missing in any playlist. Some people just don’t know correct gbedu sha

“Gina” is a song by Ghanaian artiste- #Becca and it features Nigerian artiste- Kizz Daniel. This is another interesting song that I expect to have massive airplay on all medium of broadcast, but of course, some of these broadcast channels surely know how to pick songs or artistes that favour them or should I say that are favoring them; if you know what I mean.

The song “Gina” comes with great beat drum which enhances the beauty of the song. For me, I think I enjoyed the chorus more than any other part of the song, maybe not lyric wise, but the tone and the way they were expressive; they really put real feelings in the chorus as in they were so emotional. The video is colourful and interesting to watch. Take a gander at the lyrics below

THE REVIEW

Lyrically, meaningful but yet some lines are not just connecting or should I say they were not properly organised. How do we explain “I don die for the matter. And I go soon cry for the matter”

If person don die, how cry wan come out for im eye na?

Kizz Daniel did not make us see those qualities that make Gina stunning, he only said she is too much; that doesn’t tell us anything about her personality.

“I want to make you love again” This line makes it look like Gina has been heart broken  before or several times and doesn’t want to give another man a chance; but no scene reflects this line in the video

“Take my hand and fly away with me. Am surely gonna miss you when you leave Aro oh uhhhh”

Leave to where? Is it death or jilt? Is he/she wishing her/him away? Is that line necessary?

“You know I bad and I better. Ask all of dem wey dey toast ya”

How can she/he ask others that are toasting her/him about you?How exactly will the toasters know about you?

The song has two verses. The verse 1 was taken by Kizz Daniel while the Verse 2 was taken by Becca. The bridge, pre-chorus and chorus were taken twice. The song was done majorly in English but it was fused with some pidgin.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In verse 1, “I respect you Gina. I no need to tell you Gina” Kizz Daniel makes us know that he admires and has high regard for a lady called Gina. He doesn’t say why though, but from the video, one can tell that Gina is sexy, sporty, beautiful and fun to be with. Because of what he feels for her, he wants to take her for dinner and call her beautiful names like “Omotena”

He also wants Gina to be able to love again, perhaps she has been hurt before.

In the Bridge, “Take my hand and fly away with me” the artiste wants Gina to be with him forever and never leave because if she does, he will never be himself.

In the Pre-chorus, “I am dead for the matter. And I go soon kpai for the matter” the artistes say they are head over heels in love with their significant other and it is killing them. They can’t control how/what they feel for their significant other. They cannot hide their feelings neither can they be clam about it; it is overpowering. The artistes also say that they only care for no one but their significant other.

In the chorus, “You suppose to be my baby. You suppose to give me baby one time” the artistes say that their significant other should be their one and only jewel, settle down with them and then give them a child.

In the verse 2, “Pro promise me now, no-ow. You no go go nowhere” Becca says her guy should vow that he would never leave her. She wants to always occupy his heart anytime she is far away and whenever she is around, she wants him beside her.

WHAT IS THE SONG “GINA” BY BECCA FT KIZZ DANIEL ABOUT

This is no doubt a love song. It is about a guy who is in love with a girl called Gina. Gina is is beautiful, breathtaking, sporty, sexy and fun to be with lady. From the video, Gina surely knows how to capture a man’ s heart; it is glaring in the video. The guy is passionate about Gina and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. He wants to settle down with her kind of woman and start having children with her immediately.

The guy wishes that she would never leave him, as it seems Gina has been heart broken before.

MEANING OF SOME WORDS

Respect– To have high regard for someone; Fashi someone– Let go of something, forget

Love-A profound and caring affection towards someone

Omotena– Fine girl; Miss– Feel the absence of someone with regret

SOUND– Tuneful! The Drum beat enhanced the beauty of the song. The lyrics flowed well with the rhythm. There was also consistency in the style of rhythm. Though the instruments were not varied, the song is however not boring; vert interesting to the ears. The artistes were very expressive with their vocals. The vocals were clear as well, I did not need to strain my ears to hear what they said

Becca has got a deep voice though…but it still interesting to hear.

Costume– Superb! Their costumes were stylish enough or should I say dapper. The video glimmered with bright colours. The choice of costume, jewelries, decoration and other accessories made the video colourful and catchy. The material used looks more like chiffon. The lady with a pink hair further added to the already colourful visual.

Becca’s costume was just exquisite!

Location– Indoor and outdoor scenes. The indoor scene looks more like an empty room decorated mainly to suit the purpose of the video. However, the scenes for the lovebirds were shot in a fully furnished apartment. The beach scene is one of the obvious outdoor scenes

VIDEO PRODUCTION

I really do not know if this video complements the track. The track has a message about a lady that has been heart broken in previous relationships and is afraid to give her heart to another man. View these lines “Make you love again” “I am surely going to miss you when you leave” But this doesn’t reflect in the video.

The only thing the that was glaring in the video was two lovers having great fun- such as playing games together, sporting, dining and enjoying each other’s presence

I love the flags of various countries displayed

The video is colourful and catchy though; there is no way one would come across this video and his/her attention would not be shifted to the song. Great lightning as well!

How come Kizz Daniel’s eyes were partly closed like someone feelling dizzy, tipsy or something else. Well, may be something else sha…
