The 2016 movie was about the three extra-ordinary bright African-American women Katherine Johnson (Taraji. P. Tenson, Lydia Jewett), Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae) who worked at National Aeronautics and Space administration (NASA) The trio were regarded as “genius” in mathematics, but despite their brilliance, were denied their rightful positions because of their colour; racism was really eating deep into the nation as well as the company.
For instance, Dorothy won’t be made the supervisor in the Computation department by her boss Vivian Mitchell (Kristen Dunst) because she is a black woman, but Dorothy was doing the work of a supervisor, while Katherine suffered a lot of rejection and disapproval when working in the Space Task Group of NASA, despite the fact that she was exceptionally skilled in analytical geometry and eventually identified the exact numbers that enabled Astronaut John Glenn take off into orbit and land safely. Mary Jackson on her part was only allowed to take night classes just in a bid for her to get a degree in engineering in a school that doesn’t allow black women despite the fact that she had the skills; this didn’t deter her to make the move as she later became NASA and America’s first female African- American aeronautical engineer.
