(+LYRICS+TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW- ABLE GOD “ MY STOP BUTTON HAS AUTOMATICALLY STOPPED WORKING!”

I don’t know what is happening to me o, I don’t why I just can’t stop playing this song. The kind of urge I always have to play this song can be likened to the kind of urge a new born baby has for breast milk; ain’t kidding. In essence, I too love this gbedu; everything “di” on point!

Every time I listen to this “Able God” on radio stations, I always wish for an immediate replay, but it doesn’t happen, although they play it more than three times in a day on that particular radio station. The only time I get a replay is when I click the play button on my player and put it on “repeat”. Now, the “stop” button has automatically stopped functioning. Winks!

Remember the popular Biblical word, “I was glad when they said let us go to the house of the lord?” I was happy when I learnt the video was finally out. So I quickly jumped on the song. My hands were itching to pen down stuffs on this melodious song. As in, I was so eager to review this song. Kindly take a gander at the lyrics below…

THE REVIEW

Thanks to “Mami” @Mrs. Maria aka MAONE and Sister @Mrs.Ayeni who also helped out in the translation.

No doubt, I love this song! I just screeched it, not a whisper. Dope x3. Everything about it is; from the beginning to the end, although, the drama has got some flaws. Apparently, it intended to make people laugh, well, I don’t know if that did make people laugh sha.

So did it make me laugh? At some point it did, but when the young dude- Brother Lively now said “There is no way you won’t have an accident with the way you are going going going” I was like ehen, accident ke in the house of the lord? Wetin concern accident with “Baba agbalagba” wey talk say e wan give testimony make them shout 500 Halleluiahs; although the man actually lacked idea about what to testify about. The brother Lively self was even rude. He later walked out of the church.

Moving on

Lyrically, the song started with an Intro/Bridge–Chorus-Post Chorus-Verse One– Chorus-Post Chorus-Verse Two– Chorus-Post Chorus-Verse 3- Chorus-Post Chorus-Outro/Bridge.

Able God is a really well composed song, from the intro to the chorus, post-chorus, verses and then to the outro. Well arranged and easy to comprehend too. The song has a very catchy intro- lyrically and sounds wise. Kicking off with the chorus really made the song interesting to the ears. There is no how the song would come on air and people won’t give it 100 percent undivided attention of people. The intro alone already set the mood of the song and put people in the dancing mood. The choir comprise 8 singers (Two females and 6 males; Chinko Ekun is one of them). The song has three verses taken by Chinko Ekun, Lil Kesh and Zlatan Ibile respectively. The choruses and post choruses were done four times while the bridge was done two times.

The lyric is meaningful, uplifting, interesting, and original. The lyrics flows well with the beat. This is one song that is 90% Yoruba, the only place where they sang in complete English was the Chorus. The trio sang the chorus, Zlatan Ibile and Lil Kesh sang the post chorus while Chinko Ekun alone sang the bridge.

Zlatan Ibile’s verse was the best. Also, his body movements made the video funny and interesting to watch.

BREAK DOWN OF THE SONG

In the intro/bridge, “Angeli t’on pin ire, jor ma lo sun, jor ma lo sun, jor ma lo sun (The angel that shares blessings, please don’t sleep, please don’t sleep, please don’t sleep)”, the artiste (Chinko Ekun) pleads with the angels of God that are in charge of sharing good things/blessing not to sleep but be awake concerning his matter, and bless him also.

In the Chorus, “So, able God (Able God, ah!) Shower your blessings”, the artistes (Chinko Ekun, Lil Kesh, Dzatan Ibile) plead with God to send abundance of good things to them. The good thing they want in particular is money so that they can use it to buy Bentley; a very expensive vehicle.

In the post chorus, “No more insufficient fund”, the artistes say they are no longer among those that are unable to get what they want as a result of having inadequate money. They said they have worked hard, received blessings for their hard work and constantly exchange dollars with the Abokis or bureau the exchange

In the verse 1, “Eruku nla nla (A lot of smoke), No more insufficient fund” Chinko Ekun says he is surrounded with fire. He says he has heard the glorious word of God, prayed, fasted and hustled. He is optimistic that he will breakthrough in his music career. He prays never to see devil or wicked person as he progresses in his career.

He says he is not lacking money and can never lack money as alert keeps entering every now and then. He says with his money, he is now the chairperson at occasions (that is, he is highly respected), he can take his friends to different countries to have fun or for facials

“K’a ma ri esu t’o wo canvas” may mean that may we not see enemies that will do their possible best to bring us down or enemies that are bent on ruining our lives.

In the Verse 2, “Ah, omo ope s’ise gidi gan, o n gbope (gbope)” Lil Kesh talks about a blessed young guy that keeps spending his money on a lady- Titilope but one day, his money becomes insufficient and he is unable to spend again. He says he doesn’t want his case to be like that. He wants to have money, spend the way he likes on what he desires and still have sufficient money because money is important in life. He says when he wakes up, all he wants to be seeing is just money. He encourages people to be active, work hard till they make money because money truly makes people look good.

In the verse 3, “Omo Ase, o lo n toro jacki (kuro n’be)” Zlatan Ibile encourages people to connect and interact with other people rather than stay put in one place thinking blessing will come to them in their idleness. The artiste believes that connecting with people is one certain way to breakthrough in life. He also charges people not to be afraid to take risks at times “Gbenu si, take up”.

He further says that when his story changes and he starts having sufficient money, it would be like miracle and people would agree that only God is able. He says the world is sweet when there is money. He says he is now earning dollars, pounds, dirhams and poverty is forbidden in his life. He also acknowledges Shina Peller in his verse.

WHAT IS THE SONG “ABLE GOD” BY CHINKO EKUN FT LIL KESH AND ZLATAN IBILE ABOUT?

It is just a prayer to God by three artistes- Chinko Ekun, Lil Kesh and Zlatan Ibile. They ask God to bless them immensely and never make their account insufficient so that they can also enjoy the good things of life. This they sang basically in the chorus and post-chorus.

MEANING OF SOME WORDS

Showers of blessing– Abundance of good things; Sufficient money– To have enough money to meet one’s need without someone’s help, never lacking at anytime

Insufficient funds- This is the opposite of sufficient funds. This means inability to meet one’s needs as a result of inadequate or no fund. No money for transaction (Like in the video, the yound dude’s account that was spending on Titilope became empty)

Blessing– A good gift from God

Chairperson– A head of an occasion or someone who leads or is in charge of a meeting, large organization, company or event

Ope– Thanks; Gbope– Receive thanks; Omo ase– The one who cooks; Omo ase (slang)- one who is not smart, may be sluggish or a dormant

FUNNY MOVES

This guy on white had to just make me laugh. “Odi” funny! Did you see the way he was dancing? LMAO, anyway, that was part of the interesting scene in the video.

Oh my God! This Zlatan dance steps, even his facial expression made me laugh all through the video; extremely hilarious!

I am so loving him!

SOUND

Melodiously superb! This is one tune that would keep ringing in your head for long.

I could hear some background singing; it was awesome too. Lil Kesh’s voice really made me fall in love with the song, Zlatan’s body movements and verse made me love the song and Chinko Ekun’s verse made me eager to have this sufficient money “I will take you to Malaysia, Lo si Turkey lo se facial” Their vocals flowed well with the beat and it was clear also.

They were all expressive as they sang the lyrics; they all had funny expressions especially Zlatan. They were so unswerving with the style of rhythm. The various instrumentals used (piano, guitar, drums) blended well and enhanced the beauty of the song.

I also love the way the instrument was played in the post chorus (tarataratara 8x)

(THE DANCERS)

LOCTION

It was shot indoor, inside a church in Nigeria.

COSTUME

Nice! They were looking like triplets. They were uniformed in the cloth (black) they wore as well as footwear (white). Also, they wore the same type of jewelry, gold in colour, although, Lil Kesh’s was silver.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

The trio made the video interesting to watch. They were all happy and also had some amusing dance steps. The video complements the track. The story in the video reflects the message of the song. The story is a gripping one. The dancers are energetic; nice video concept. The dialogue between the elderly man and Bro lively in the short drama was somehow.

Also, the lightning was too much and made the video too bright like that of a new torch light, especially the scene they were dancing. It was like light from heaven was shining upon them. Also, at some point the pictures were blurry.

But, really, for church service, how can the church be so dark like that, even during rehearsals the lights are always on except they do not have a generator..

THE STORY IN THE VIDEO

There are two stories in the video

Story 1

During church service, an elderly man walks to the altar to give his testimony. He tells the congregation to help him shout 500 halleluiahs, apparently it seems like the man is empty of words as he beats around the bush trying to give a testimony. The pastor charges him to go straight to the point but he is unable to. A man~ Bro Lively from the congregation gets mad at the elderly man and tells the pastor to chase him away. He mocks him saying that the wall of Jericho fell down after shouting 7 halleluiahs. Unable to stand the man’s attitude, the young man in anger walks out from the church service telling the elderly man that he is likely to have an accident with the way he is going.

The story has a bad ending, wetin concern accident now with testimony? The person that wrote the script was not creative enough in the conclusion. They could have just ended the drama when the elderly man asked them to shout 500 halleluiahs. What should have accompanied this is the facial expression of the whole congregation as the elderly man fumbles for the words to use.

Story 2

A guy keeps spending on a lady until one day he sees that there is no money in his account; insufficient money. It then occurred to him that he has been fooling around

JUST WONDERING

  • Meanwhile, is this Lil Kesh’s new identity now, to be wearing glasses everywhere…the same look he had in the song “Issa Goal”
  • What was that Chinko Ekun said at the beginning of the song- is that his own Chinese? That must be Nigerian Chinese
  • I don’t know if all these back up singers were hiding their faces or what, we barely saw their faces, especially those at the back.
