Ahah, biko nu (please), what did Nyanda say after this particular line “Amateur man, better step to this side. Bend boom boom that I may creep tonight” Please if you have an idea, kindly fill me in. Like seriously, I had to use my VLC player to slow the speed of the song, exactly like the same slow speed used when singing worship songs in churches, even slower self to really hear what Nyanda sang in her verse, especially after she sang “Amateur man…”, but still, I was not able to hear what she said.
Though her voice was loud, I still think the beat overshadowed her vocals; that was not too good. This would be the first song of all the songs that have been reviewed on the blog that I had to take extra time just to hear few lines sang by an artiste and still not be able to put the words together. Other songs, after replaying them several times, I am still always able to hear what the artiste sang. Anyway, enough of the intro, like you know, we always want you all to take a gander at the lyrics before the main review. Njoyyy!

THE REVIEW
I just love this great tune called Wokie Wokie by Nigerian Mr.P and Jamaican Nyanda of Brick & Lace. The intro has a very catchy tune that will no doubt get your undivided attention and put you in the mood to watch the song from the beginning to the end. From the intro tune, I could tell that the song would be a melodious one, even though the background tune in the opening scene where they were both exchanging contact was pretty low that I thought my speaker was faulty, but the fault was from them. I mean, for 36 seconds we barely heard a beat- that is like a quarter of a full song (Short music though) . Don’t get me wrong, there was a background beat, but it was just too low.
Still on the intro, I am trying to understand the intro, Nyanda gave Mr. P the phone, then Mr.P returned to her and she dialed a number, then she gave the phone again to Mr. P and he walked away. So, who really owns the phone?
Ehen! That their Jetli film in the song was too long, it should have been trimmed, so many unnecessary prolonging of action. The intro was already prolonged (36 seconds), why prolong the short drama also (153 seconds; 2 minutes 33 seconds). The song ended at 4 minutes 45 but the drama elongated the song making it end at 7 minutes 18 seconds. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Mr.P action movie, but it was just too long.
Lyrically, the song comes in three verses; a verse each by Mr. P and Nyanda and a joint verse by the two. Mr.P’s verse was pretty short and he was audible. His verse was made up of four lines. Nyanda’s had 12 lines in the verse 2 and was not quite audible. I had to strain my ears to really hear what she said.
The chorus was done three times. They sang mostly in English with a fuse of few pidgin words. The song has meaning, but I think the words used especially in the chorus were just too simple more like primary school words.
WHAT IS THE SONG “WOKIE WOKIE” BY MR.P AND NYANDA ABOUT?
The song Wokie Wokie is basically about two adults who meet at the club and show interest in each other. They find each other appealing. Soon, their feelings intensify when they see the features they each want in an opposite sex. They both want someone that is romantic and that can do the wokie wokie. But wait o, abeg what does wokie wokie mean? Someone said it means sex, as in to know how to get down well with a guy or lady. Any idea? Share biko
BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG
In the intro “Oh oh yeah, Oh oh yeah., Oya do the wokie wokie yeah yeah. Girl you all I think of (Mr. P), she said she wants a romantic boy” Mr.P says that anytime he thinks about the kind of lady he wants to be with, Nyanda is the only one that comes to his mind. Also, Mr. P has the major feature Nyanda wants in a guy “Romantic”
In the verse 1 “She told me that she came alone”, Mr. P approaches Nyanda and chats her up. From their chat, he gets to know that she is with no other guy. This gives him the chance to express his feelings for her and he afterwards promises to satisfy her needs. He likes her body and wants to waste no time to get down with her.
In the chorus “Girl you all I think of (Mr. P), she said she wants a romantic boy”, Mr. p says that Nyanda is the only one he thinks about as he knows he has everything Nyanda wants in a man; he is romantic and get an do the wokie wokie; get down well
In the verse 2 “Hmm, ah, street hardcore, why me I deal with” Nyanda emphasizes the type of man she wants to date and the type she doesn’t want to date.
In the verse 3 “You make me fall in love with you , am on it girl anything you want me to” they both confess love for each other. Mr.P says he wants to get down with her “Give it up to you” and Nyanda says he likes the ways he goes about expressing how he feels about her and what he wants from her.

Wokie Wokie: To get down with someone
Pull up on someone: Making out; Give it up: Surrender- to have sex with someone
SOUND:
Nyanda’s lines in the Verse 2 were drowned by the instrumental accompaniment. It is so annoying when a beat overshadows an artiste’s voice especially when when the person is a rapper; Nyanda rapped and her vocals were overshadowed by the beat. I could barely hear her. However, the song in entirety is so melodious. The instrumentals were well arranged and their vocals flowed well with the rhythm. I loved the combination of various instruments used in the song. However there was no consistency in the style of rhythm. The verse taken by Mr.P was shorter than that of Nyanda. Also, after the culmination of the song at 7 minutes 18 seconds- they should have brought back the beat to end the short movie and the whole song.
Generally, the rhythm is attention grabbing and can compel one to get up on his or her feet to dance.
COSTUME
The ladies were mostly in bum shorts and crop tops while the guys wore casual
LOCATION
It was shot mostly outdoor ; a club. They also used a garage
VIDEO PRODUCTION
A very nice visual concept but it was just lengthy; it should have been trimmed. Quite dim. Meanwhile, I love Mr.P’s moves @ the 4 minutes 11 seconds and 4 minutes 20 seconds of the video.
THE STORY IN THE VIDEO
At the club, Mr. P sees Nyanda and instantly falls in love with her. He collects her number and promises to give her a call. They both find each other appealing. However, some group of boys seem to also have interest in Nyanda as they stylishly watch her chat away and dance with Mr. P. Soon they approach Nyanda and Mr.P and she becomes uncomfortable. Mr. P decides to move her away from the place so she can get herself. But as soon as they are away from the crowd, some group of guys attack them. They beat Mr.P black and blue forcing Nyanda to watch the way they are torturing him. Thinking they have defeated Mr. P, they make an attempt to take Nyanda with them.
Moments later, Mr.P regains strength and beats all of them. He gets his new love interest back and then takes her away.
JUST WONDERING
The background beat at the opening scene was pretty low
Who owns the phone Nyanda or Mr.P? Nyanda gave the phone to Mr.P and the next thing he is taking it away…
How many times do they want to exchange contacts in the video, they have done that in the opening scene, why put it again in between the song?
I love the action film though, but did I just see Mr.P’s bum shoot out? @ 6 minutes 26 seconds. This action film odikwa serious
