I totally love everything about this song; the beat and the expressions of all those that featured in the video, especially those remonstrating. Those people were all grief filled during the remonstration to show their displeasure about the deplorable state of the country which had been worsened by the constant attack by Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and ISIS; the world’s most deadly terrorist groups. Also, the leaders of different countries are not left out, rather than take care of the masses and their needs, they loot public funds.

I wonder why I barely hear this well composed song on radio or see it constantly played on television. Some of these on air personalities don’t like to play this kind of better song but when it comes to songs like “Give it to me, take it, lick it, throw it and its likes”, they will play it every day. Or better still they have added this “Heal the world” to their Sunday playlist? Well, your guess is as good as mine.

THE REVIEW

I love the intro; it comes with a nice slow beat and visual that will make you curious to find out what is happening and what will happen next. Though, from crowd, one can tell what the song is about even if the person mutes the song.

LYRICALLY the song is obviously meaningful. It is heartwarming. It comes in two verses. Patoranking sang the chorus three times. He sang both in English and pidgin, but mostly in English. Most of the lines of the verses were interrelated.

WHAT DOES THE SONG “HEAL THE WORLD” BY PATORANKING MEAN

The song is self explanatory; the chorus explains it all “Spread love and heal the world
Heal the world, let love fill the world”

Hence, the song “Heal the world’ by Patoranking preaches the need for people to show love rather than hatred or keep grudges with one another which is essential for peace to reign in the country and also the ultimate solution to crisis in the world. According to the artiste, when love fills the world, the world would be automatically healed from all crises. When there is love, people won’t wish others bad or keep malice with people or kill people or destroy their property. The artiste goes further to show that war is costly while peace is priceless.

Indeed, to fight any form of war, you need to buy a weapon/weapons; even if it is as small as a knife, and at the end, people are killed and property destroyed.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

In the verse 1, “Girls fighting over Gemini and pisces, every corner it’s war and crisis” Patoranking seems to believe that girls are more particular about their zodiac signs (something not relevant compared to war) despite the crisis all over, the killing of thousands of humans and the destruction of property by Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and ISIS. He goes on to say that the inhumane acts done by the Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and ISIS overshadows the beautiful past events of Africa. Their constant attack makes people nervy and he prays that God will make the citizens victorious.

In the verse 2, “Sickness is the status upon her DP now, her mother dying of BP now”, the artiste elaborates what people go through when there is war. He also talks about what citizens do if there is so much poverty in the country as a result of politicians’ looting. According to him, if politicians don’t fulfill their promises and citizens are suffering, the ladies in a bid to survive go into prostitution while the boys start stealing. In the long or short run, the former will be infected while the latter will be arrested or killed right on spot by the uniformed men if they try to abscond. He also says that too many grudges and harboring evil thoughts against others wont help heal the world.

In the Pre Chorus, “Take a look round the city now, no love oh what ah pity now” the artist says there is no more love in the city but hatred which is fast consuming the world. He also says those who ought to take care of the citizens with the immense resources on ground are instead stealing the money. At times these people don’t even use it to take care of their own, but spend on girls that can gratify their sexual libido; they use the resources for their selfish interest. Rather than spend the money on things that will develop the economy, they had rather use it to seek sexual pleasure and other irrelevant things at the expense of the suffering of the mass

From this line, “21 look like 50 now, hatred make things shitty now” one can tell that the artiste is trying to point out the repercussion of crisis. Constant killing and destruction of property will bring about financial shortage and scantiness of people in the land. Hence, people that are young and do not have money to take care of themselves will look older. Or better still, when there is war, it would affect both the rich and the poor, it would tell on their faces.

In the chorus, “So heal the world, heal the world, spread love and heal the world “ the artiste preaches love to all, and says rather than smear hatred that end up causing war, they should spread love that will make peace reign in the world. He says when there is love, the world would be healed.

MEANING OF SOME WORDS

Gemini is one of the 12 Zodiac signs; is the 3^rd sign of the zodiac to be precise. They are people born between May 21^st and June 20^th. People believe that Geminis’ are sociable, understanding, loving amongst others.

Pisces- is the twelfth sign of the zodiac; the final sign if the zodiac to be precise. They are people born between the month February 19^th and March 20^th. People believe that Pisces are honest, altruistic, bighearted, compassionate and can adapt to any situation around them.

Mystery-Something strange, unexplainable, difficult to understand.

Jittery– Nervy; nervous; Shitty– very bad, horrible; Hatred– Strong dislike

Heal– Reconcile, cure, saved, get better; Snitching– To steal; Looting: To steal

SOUND: Very tuneful, memorable and original. He was expressive as he sang the lyrics. His vocal was dynamic and his backup singers couldn’t have been better, though the expression of some of them looked like they were feeling sleepy. His lyrics flowed well with the rhythm. He was also unswerving with the style of rhythm. The various instrumentals used (piano, guitar, shakers, tambourine) blended well and enhanced the beauty of the song. It emphasized the mood of the song. The different instruments combined to perform the song made the song interesting to the ears. I love the piano interludes

LOCATION

It was shot mostly outdoor where people gathered to protest. The only indoor scene was where Patoranking’s backup singers stayed.

COSTUME

Those remonstrating wore more of casuals. Patoranking at some point wore casuals but when he stood with the mass choir, he wore Adireat (I think that is what the fabric is called though, but if you think otherwise, kindly use the comment box), also the pianoist. The backup singers on the other hand wore suit (for the guys) and a jacket with a camisole (for the ladies); black and white in colour

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Terrific. The video concept! The images compliment the lyrics of the song. The vandalized cars, the scanty city, the whole place in disarray can all be linked to the aftermath of crisis. All those that featured in the video were very expressive and their faces registered sadness. They were chanting change. They have had enough of war and wanted peace in the country.  Interesting visuals to watch.

JUST WONDERING

This water that Patoranking picked from the floor and gave to the young chap; ( view at the 1:03 minutes of the video) though he was trying to show care, but I don’t quite agree with that scene. Why should you just pick any kind of water and hand it to a child to drink if it is not his own.

• Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and ISIS, how come the poor people are the nicest? Is he trying to say that the ladies are less concerned or not conscious about the crisis?
• Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and ISIS, how come the poor people are the nicest? Really, poor people are the nicest, that was then, some poor people are now becoming so bitchy.
• Heal the world, but we don’t get to see various flags of different countries
• Some of those backup singers did not show vitality as they sang, it looked like they were feeling sleepy
