(+LYRICS) MUSIC REVIEW- REALITY BY RUDEBOY (PAUL OKOYE) “SO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING!”

One thing you can’t take away from this new video by Rudeboy is that the aesthetic of the video is not only gratifying but gripping as well. Infact, as I was reviewing the video, I found myself envisaging being in the house and savoring all the beautiful art works; can you just imagine.

A nice video with a nice setting, I can authoritatively argue this anywhere. Rudeboy was really expressive while singing the lyrics. He really cried o; awwww, sorry! So, why was he crying, he felt really hurt that he couldn’t have his babe to himself. Even though he was willing to cry for her, fight for her, do anything just to have her to himself, but he wasn’t willing to die for her;  it is the reality. Check out the lyrics below…

THE REVIEW

The intro of this song was the first thing that captured my attention, those captivating masterpiece, lovely interior decor;  this video is aesthetically pleasing, I must confess.

Lyrically the song comes in two verses. The artiste sang the hook “I’m sorry…” four times while the pre-chorus “Girl, I go die…” and chorus “Girl I don’t mind…” three times respectively. The lyrics were basically done in pidgin and the words flowed perfectly well compared to the previous songs written by Rudeboy. I could connect one line to another line; awesome!

Conclusively, the lyrics to the song reality are meaningful, interesting, heartwarming and original. Infact, among his solo efforts, I would say this is the best lyrically.

BREAKDOWN OF THE SONG

Verse 1, “Some say that I’m blind no be my way (There’s nobody like you)
I gave you my heart but you throway…”  shows that  Rudeboy keeps showing the lady love even though she is not faithful to him. She is flirting around with some other guys who are richer than Rudeboy. Despite the fact that Rudeboy knows his girlfriend is cheating on him, he still sticks with her. Hence, people think he is blind to keep sticking around someone that is unfaithful to him. But Rudeboy reveals that the reason he can’t let her go is because there is just that something that stands her out from other girls.

In the verse 2 “She got a lot of sugar daddy dem plenty, eyah, eehh. I know say my girl no be saint e, cos I know what I’m feeling…”, Rudeboy acknowledges that his babe is not faithful to him as she flirts with sugar daddies who spoil her with expensive gifts. He can’t even compete with her other lovers as they are richer than him which is evident in the expensive gifts she gets. This he sang in verse 2…

“Gucci, LV, she get am; Channel and Fendi, Ferragamo, Bentley eeh, Lamborghini, Benzi, she get am; see my life and my pocket empty”

Meanwhile in the video, Rudeboy’s pocket is empty.. However, he still wants to be with her.

The Pre-chorus “Girl I go die for your body oh, girl me I go fight anybody oh
Any baga wey go try me dem go soji oh, cos dem other girls dem no sabi oh”, Rudeboy despite knowing that she is unfaithful to him decides to fight anybody in order to have her to himself. Even though she is cheating on him, he says she is different from other girls (Like seriously?) and they can’t be compared to her.

From the chorus “Girl I don’t mind, if na fight I go fight for you, eyah. And I don’t mind , if na to cry I go cry for you, eyah. I don’t mind, mind, mind; me I fit do anything for you. Girl if na to die, I no go die for you, cos this is reality”

Here, he states his true feelings to her. He says, even though he would cry, fight for her, but he can never die for her.

MEANING OF SOME WORDS

Bagga– A slang used for someone that may be annoying or getting on your nerves at a particular time or someone silly. In this case, Rudeboy sees those competing with him as baga

Sexiness– Simply means being sexy; possessing the traits of sexual appeal

Soji– To be smart. However, in the context of this song, Rudeboy may mean, to ”harm” “injure”, “fall” something else bot not smart

Reality– It means being real or saying the truth. In this song, reality means he is saying the way he feels about the lady, what he can and can’t do for her.

LV: It means Louis Vuitton

WHAT DOES THE SONG REALITY BY RUDEBOY MEAN?

The song “Reality” by Rudeboy is basically about a guy (Played by Rudeboy) who has decided to stick with his girlfriend (But this girl is beautiful sha) even though he knows she is cheating on him.  He is determined to hang on, even if it means to fight or cry, except die, till she becomes all his.

LOCATION

The video was shot outdoor (Road) and indoor (Kitchen, bedroom…)

COSTUME

Nice! Rudeboy did more of casual wears. For the ladies, they either wore short gown or a crop top on a pant,  net top on a tight pant; the most sensitive parts of the body were not exposed.

SOUND

Very appealing to the ears. His vocals also flowed well with the tune. He was also expressive while singing the lyrics which makes it more interesting. He was also consistent with his style of rhythm. It  has a reggae beat.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Interesting video with great interior décor; beautiful floor mat (more beautiful than the bed cover and throw pillows), lovely artworks and so on. Great lightning as well.

STORY IN THE VIDEO

Rudeboy is in a relationship with a damsel who apparently has a sugar daddy as a lover too. While in bed with Rudeboy, she excuses herself to the kitchen, while Rudeboy looks through her phone. Fortunately or unfortunately for him, a message enters  her phone and it is from her sugar daddy telling her that he bought a car for her as a birthday gift. This upsets Rudeboy who first of  all throws her phone away in anger. Later he retrieves her phone and goes to affirm his discovery.

On her birthday, her sugar daddy gets her the said car and even goes as far as buying expensive gifts for her her and her friends.  While still chatting with her sugar daddy, Rudeboy also goes visiting with a card and a flower as a birthday gift but when he sees them together, this makes him sad. Depressed Rudeboy returns home to smoke and drink, though Rudeboy later celebrated her birthday with her. In the end, the damsel is seen with Rudeboy which may mean she chose him instead.

JUST WONDERING

  • About the way the damsel was wining and grinding, it seemed like she was forcing her body to shake, not in all scenes though.
  • I thought it’s Rudeboy’s house, did the damsel return to his house with the car and gifts from another man that she is obviously cheating on him with? Ookay, it seems like the girl owns the house not Rudeboy
  • The hook says ‘I’m sorry…” What was he really sorry for? Because the truth is that the girl should be the one that is sorry. Could it be because he said he could not die for her. Please if you know, hint me up.
  • Rudeboy, always using Ndi ocha alone in his video except that “Somebody baby” video, ngwanu, continue oo

REMARK: Intersesting vibe, one of his best composed solo track since he separated from his twin brother Mr.P (Peter Okoye) when they were together as Psquare under square records.

DURATION– 4 MINUTE 14 SECONDS

  1. Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such great info being shared freely out there.
