I don’t know what hold this Davido’s song has got on me oh, but as I was just reading my bible, I found myself humming this Davido’s song titled “Assurance”. As I come dey fight the song commot for my mouth and mind to focus on his word, I just had to change the lyrics in my mind to “Lord, I have assurance in you and in your words” Well, that is by the way anyway. So Davido featured his current girlfriend- Chioma on this and he specially dedicated the song to her ahead of Chioma’s birthday. As usual, we already have the lyrics to the song– Assurance, enjoy.

Lyrically, the song comes in two extremely short verses. They are interesting verses’ Though I think the word “Lady” would have been more befitting than “sister” “So I am looking for a sister, Chioma my lover”
“She enter Atlanta, she go cause disaster. She go follow go Atlanta, dey cause disaster o” What exactly does that mean? Disaster looks too disastrous; abeg there are better words for a lady that draws people’s attention or that makes people over trip for her. I love the flow of words especially in the chorus. For the verse 2, he should have used another word for Money instead of “Pepper” as he is not only singing for the Nigerian audience but his international audience as well “Pepper rest o, so brother man go gat the liver”
Also, the lines in verse 1 are dependent on one another while that of Verse 2 are independent. “Love is sweet oo, when money enter is sweeter. Pepper rest o, so brother man go gat the liver. Call Anita o, tell am make she come dey go far away, far a-wayyy, me I no dey do again”. The lyrics of the song are however meaningful as they mean an assurance of Davido’s love for his girlfriend Chioma.
SO WHAT DOES THE SONG ASSURANCE BY DAVIDO MEAN?
Assurance is no doubt a love song where Davido featured his current real girlfriend- Chioma. Davido in this song expresses his genuine love for her promising never to leave her.
The dictionary definition of the word assurance, which Davido sang repeatedly in the chorus “She say give me assurance, assurance. I give my baby assurance. I give my baby lifetime insurance, Yeah! Assurance (oh no), assurance. I give my baby assurance, I give my baby lifetime insurance, Yeah!” is a positive declaration intended to give confidence; a promise or an affirmation. So we can say the song “assurance” is Davido’s affirmation of his true love for his girlfriend- Chioma.
“Life-time insurance” on the other hand (according to Wikipedia) means insurance that pays a sum of money to you after a period of time, or to your family when you die.
However, relating it to this song, Davido again his affirming that he and Chioma are going to be together for a long time; hence the word Lifetime. One of Davido’s insurance on his love for her is the Porsche he acquired in her name. Aside bequetting Chioma with Material things as an assurance of his love for her, he also swore on his life “And if I ever leave oh, make water carry me dey go. Far away, far a-wayyy”
Also in assuring her of his love for her, he chases other women around him away. This he said in verse 2… “Call Anita o, tell am make she come dey go far away, far a-wayyy, me I no dey do again”. The above line shows that he truly doesn’t intend leaving her.
Davido gave his girlfriend- Chioma an assurance to love and be with her for a long time; though he didn’t sing it in the song he only sang “…I gave my baby girl lifetime insurance”
ABOUT ASSURANCE VIDEO
It is indeed an interesting video to watch; a video different from the conventional style Nigerian artistes like to do when shooting their videos; I am talking about the usual bar setting or situations where their videos are filled with girls shaking their bum. Assurance video is different. It is neither crowded nor filled with too many activities that end up confusing the audience. There are two major people in the video, Davido and his girlfriend Chioma except the carnival scene; which we don’t expect to be carried out by only the both of them. They were joined by other people in the last scene.
The video doesn’t really tell a story. It is just basically two love birds cruising around and catching fun. They start out with the road trip to having jungle fun and then a carnival night where they join others in the dance floor.
The way Davido was doing the Shaku Shaku Dance while swinging that light was cool
