(+LYRICS) MUSIC REVIEW: BULLET PROOF BY SHATTA WALE “VERY TUNEFUL, BUT POOR VOCALS

“I go take bullet for you, no be 1, no be, no be 2” I totally love this song. Shatta Wale has got me hooked on this certain track, even though his vocal was not strong enough; poor.. I practically strained my ears all through the 3 minutes 33 seconds to hear what he was saying, ain’t talking about the lines he didn’t sing in English, but the ones he sang in pidgin; I really didn’t find that funny.

Anywayz, so this song has got me asking those guyz wey dey on the ‘friendzone’ and those wey be say, na only by mouth dem dey show their love “Can you take a bullet for me like Shatta Wale sang” and their reply, “Ah ah, as in how na?” In yoruba language, they had be like “Ki la gbe, ki le ju.” Okay, continue.

Before the review, let’s feel the lyrics below

THE REVIEW
Lyrically one can tell that the lyrics are repetitive. The song is quite short, though the duration is about 3 minutes 33 seconds, this was made possible because the verse 1 was repeated and the chorus was repeated countlessly.

However, the word “bullet proof” looks original to me and can be solely associated with the Musician Shatta Wale and his song. I am yet to hear any song where the musician specifically sang on his intention to take a bullet for a lady. If there is any, please feel free to let me know

Also, he didn’t only sing the lyrics/song in general, but expressed it as well. The lyrics in the chorus is quite interesting.

The verse 1 was flowing well, suddenly, it just stopped flowing. View this line
“You say me I be your messah messiah. You say, this love no be work, so you say, you no go retire. Stop complaining, baby stop complaining… (complaining about what?)”

Also, this line “I swearrrr by the moon and the stars. I will take you there, I will take you there, oh mama, my baby” Please where exactly is Shatta Wale taking the girl to? Is it the moon?

WHAT IS THE SONG ‘BULLET PROOF’ BY SHATTA WALE ABOUT?

This is no doubt a love song. Shatta loves a certain lady who sells drinks on the beach, she also lives with her parents. What she does to him leaves him with a long lasting memory, or better still, makes him shout “ouch” like he sang in verse 2 “The things you dey do for me, the things you dey do I no forgettii yeah. Ouch atinga ne ri, atinga na da ouch…”

Shatta proclaims his love to the beautiful lady and lets her know that he would risk his life over and over again just to save her. This he sang in the chorus “I go take bullet for you, I say no be 1, no be, no be 2…”
However, the lady’s parents reject him apparently because he hasno money or they do not believe in the future of a musician, but one day, when Shatta Wale presents the lady’s parents with a car, they are quick to give their daughter to him.

VIDEO/LOCATION

It was shot outdoor; on the beach precisely.
I love the video concept, it tells a story, but however, I do not like the way the story ended.
It tells the story of Shatta wale who is in love with a certain beautiful lady. He wants to have her to himself, but her parents keeps rejecting him. They turn him down countless times, apparently they feel he doesn’t have money or they do not believe in music, but the day Shatta Wale presents them with a car key, they immediately give out their daughter to him without a second thought. So now, how does that describe or portray African parents to the world?
I mean the girl’s family rejected him, but only accepted Shatta, when he gave them a car

BEAT
Quite tuneful and would push one who may not be a dance freak to move his or her body till the end of the song. It is a kind of beat that when it comes on air, you can’t help but notice it. The intro puts you in the mood to want to listen to the whole song. Though Shatta’s vocal was not clear enough, his voice wasn’t audible, aside the fact he sang some lines in his language, the ones he sang in pidgin, I strained my ears to decipher them.

COSTUME

Cool! not too many costumes. I love all their Ankara wears, I love the fact that African musicians are now promoting African prints in their music videos, however I still prefer the beautiful lady’s clothes to others

. Wondering if it was the female’s costumier that was the costumier for Shatta Wale and the lady’s parents, cos her clothes are actually more outstanding and far better than others.

JUST WONDERING

• Wondering what she was turning in that cooler, it was obviously empty.

• It seems like Shatta Wale was advertising these drinks…

• Lol, did Shatta Wale dash them his own car, just to have that lady, cos I don’t think he went there with another car. On a serious note, is Shatta now saying that the only way to easily grant the approval of the parents of the lady you want is by buying them exorbitant gifts.
• It looks to me that the father of the lady was more interested in material things than the daughter, at the sight of a car, he was quick to give out the daughter, hhmmm!

This is a terrific song even though the singer’s vocal was not clear. A quality song that has commercial potential.
