The Review

MI comes out with this terrific visuals titled “Your father.” Though the word is not relatively new in Nigeria but the lyricist uses the slang in different forms in this song. Lyrically, some part of the song got me racking my brain.

What is the song “Your father” about

The word “Your father” is a slang. The word is usually used to express unhappiness with a colleague, neighbour, friend, enemy or anyone that is upsetting. It is usually used when one disapproves of a certain character or when one person is trying to exploit another person, one may simply say “your father”. The word is also used when two people are having a heated argument, he or she may likely say “your father”

It is also used when some people are making life unbearable for others. Or when authorities trample on people’s rights. Just like Dice sang in the chorus

“Nepa no give us light but them dey disturb us for Bill, we go tell them their father
Police dey stop us for road dey harass us for raba, we tell them their father”

Basically, there is no ‘one meaning’ of “your father” in this song.
For instance, in the verse one, Dice uses the word “your father” on those hating on him. In the chorus, he uses the word “Your father” on those trying to exploit them…
“Nepa no give us light but dem dey disturb us for Bill, police dey stop us for road dey harrass us for raba, your lecturer dey disturb you make you come him office, if them no give you visa after you do interview; tell them their father”

While MI in verse 2 uses the slang “Your father” to show superiority over other rappers as well as a lady cheating on her man.
Check out some of the lyrics here
“Your father your father! Watch how you talk to your father. I don’t blame you niggers I blame your father. If you are a lyricist I am your baba your papa your dada”

Beat: I don’t think MI had in mind a club banging song when he came out with this tune, but all in ll, it’s a beat unique in its own way.

Video: I totally love this video- so clean, definitely an HD video. I love the concept of the mannequin; though I don’t know why they were unclothed and the breast part was the focus of the camera. The video was colourful; lightning was superb. It was shot outdoor. The pictures of the ‘Chocolate city artistes’ on the wall (that MI is actually close to) was cute.

Also, I couldn’t just help but notice this drink

It was just evident that MI was advertising that particular drink which made him slightly lose focus because he focused more on the drink.

The video doesn’t tell a story like some other videos, just the video vixens and unclothed mannequins were the major visuals. The camera seemed to focus more on the naked mannequins than on the ladies in the video. The camera was also quick to roll away from each visual not making the audience have a great view of each, except one slows the tempo of the song.

Costume: Just costume
Just thinking
• Is the video about “Your father” like he sang or the drink “MARTELL”?
• Those girls were just like figureheads
• The concentration was more on the naked mannequins

The video was directed by The Myth
Duration: 2:54
This song may not be a club banger but it has terrific beat; unique in its own way. The song will definitely always come to mind because people are already familiar with the slang ‘Your father’.

Hip-hop Singer, David Adeleke a.k.a Davido, said his songs have endeared him to world leaders including 13 presidents. He stated this in a recent interview with MTV Base, few days after tickets for his ’30 billion tour’ London show billed to hold in February sold out.

Davido, who released his first song titled, ‘Back When’ in 2011 said he didn’t know that it was going to be that big. According to him, after the song, his father realized that he has got the talent.

He said when he released Dami duro, the President at that time, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan called his father to talk about him and the song. His name and song was always mentioned during his father’s business meetings with his friends.

“Before long, I started traveling and doing shows around the world; now I have the numbers of about 13 presidents on my phone and if I call them, they would answer the call,’’ Davido said.

This song has got me really feeling loved up, perhaps because we are about to enter the month of February- the “Lovers” month, like people call it or something else; actually, this song is a perfect tune this coming Valentine.

Well, listen to the song/watch the video and thank me later. You can also share your views on the song.
For me, I love the beat and the chorus

The 2018 Grammys, the 60th installment of the music industry’s flagship awards show, were handed out on Sunday night. And the night belonged to Bruno Mars. He was the night’s biggest winner, taking home six awards including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
Heading into the awards, Mars and Jay-Z led the nominations. But Mars ultimately swept the three biggest honors of the night, taking home Album of the Year and Record of the Year for 24k Magic and winning Song of the Year for “That’s What I Like.” Mars won six Grammys overall. In the end, Jay-Z was completely shut out and went home empty handed.

The Grammys handed out more than 80 golden gramophones in total, including in dozens of categories whose winners were announced shortly before the live telecast. Going into the ceremony, for example, Mars had already won three Grammys: Best R&B Album for 24K Magic and Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “That’s What I Like.”
Another big winner from the preshow awards was Kendrick Lamar, who won five Grammys total: He was honored with Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video for “HUMBLE” during the preshow, and during the main ceremony, he won Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Loyalty” with Rihanna and Best Rap Album for DAMN.

Meanwhile, other notable — and controversial — wins from the live ceremony included Alessia Cara for Best New Artist (in an unfortunate snub of SZA) and Ed Sheeran for Best Pop Solo Performance, with his song “Shape of You” (Sheeran somehow beat Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Kesha, and Pink, and he wasn’t even present to accept the award)
