(+ LYRICS+TRANSLATION) MUSIC REVIEW- “NKENJI KEKE” BY KING RUDY AKA ‘PAUL OKOYE OF PSQUARE’ TERRIFIC CONCEPT, JUST THAT THAT THEIR PICNIC BASKET WAS PRACTICALLY…

I just like this line “Imana e g’ egbu mmadu le, anya mmili eh
O gba julu’m anya, o gba julu’m anya”

For the non-Igbos, yeah, King Rudy sang mostly in Igbo, so that line basically means “You know you can make someone cry for you, and make tears fill one’s eyes; not sorrowful tears sha, but that of love #WINKS”

First of all, I just love this song. Anywhere you are and the song is playing, irrespective of your mood, you can’t help but notice the song and groove to it.

It’s one song that you will feel like learning the language and using it to woo that your significant order because of the way King Rudy sang it. So before the main review, let’s feel the lyrics first…

THE REVIEW

Like I said, I totally love this song, I can’t help but keep singing. King Rudy in this song uses the word ‘Nkenji Keke’ to describe the lady he loves in a figurative way. It is a love song, no doubt mostly sang in Igbo, but ‘Ogefash blog’ has translated it to English for our beautiful readers.

The song is lyrically on point from where he described the power of his woman which is capable of making someone cry for her (not sorrowful one o) and capable of killing the boys (not physical death though, but more of make guys lose control and yearn for her).

He also describes his woman as one that other ladies are envious of and a kind of woman a man can do anything for. For king Rudy, because of her, he visits the Whiteman’s land and now he speaks English all just for her sake.

Check the below line in Verse 2
A na ma asuzi Oyibo, e je gom obodo Oyibo (I now speak good English cos I have gone to the whiteman’s land.)
Nwata malu mma nu, nwata killing the boys them (A beautiful lady, a lady that is killing the boys)
Nwata ji zi we oku nunu, na egburia the girls them (Hot lady, the envy of other girls)

What the song “Nkenji keke” is about

This is a love song to a woman. “Nkenji keke” is an Igbo word, a language spoken in Nigeria. King Rudy uses it to describe his woman because of all the unique qualities in her. Some of the qualities he sees in his woman makes him conclude that she is the one he wants to live with forever. His woman is the envy of other ladies and can make other men die for her. She is hot in all ways and can cause one to cry (not the tears of sorrow though, that kind of cry of love)

VIDEO
This is a very simple but spectacular video. So, the video was shot outdoor, a place looking like a hillside with not so much interesting view aside the lawn and water fountain or perhaps a lakeside and few slopes.

The video was in form of a drama, where King Rudy took his woman out on an outdoor picnic. They carried along a basket containing virtually nothing; sorry I meant few items. They also had with them a guitar that none of them played. Infact, I think that lady used it as a drum or something; my eyes I guess, please help check.

While having fun, they are interrupted by a little girl who is fascinated about their love life and beckons on them to follow her. Moments later, they are in the girl’s kingdom and they see other people from her kingdom as well; they are so excited to have them around. They chat with them and also give them their costume to wear, they also teach them their culture and their dance steps. Okay, I think Paul played the guitar there.

Costume

Just costume! King Rudy and his woman wore white and a touch of red, even when they were in the water. The lady wore a long dress with a long slit enough to reveal her panties and a red hat. While in the water, the lady wore a very transparent net hence revealing her chest; if you know what I mean. And for the new people they met, their outfit is like the old school dressing.

Beat: Great- capable to make one fall in love

Just thinking
• The dance steps didn’t sync at all with the music, either the music was faster or the dancers were faster, or perhaps they do not know how to dance. They just wasted that beat anyway, because I didnt see that their proper African dance at all

• I thought seeing a stranger, that lady should have used her shawl to cover her, she was practically naked

• That basket was practically empty

• I saw just a chair, I thought it should be two and not one.

Oneday president: In all sincerity, Nigeria can never be fixed in a day so this is what I can do to help.
