MUSIC REVIEW: MANYA BY WIZKID (THE SAME CONCEPT WITH ‘TIWA’S MALO’, JUST THAT…)

(+LYRICS) MUSIC REVIEW: MANYA BY WIZKID
So, when I first heard this song, what came through my mind was the familiar beat. Some days after, it finally dawned on me that the beat was similar to the song “Gehu” by Ghanaian musician- VIP. So, my two ears heard that some people were saying Wizkid used another person’s beat; na your beat? Who tell una say im no ask VIP before using the beat. Besides, if a song has a terrific beat, people would always want to use it. When 50 cent came out with the dope track “In da Club” off his 2003 “Get rich or die trying” album, because of the terrific beat, many artists like Beyoncé, Mary J Blige, P.Diddy, Lil Wayne and so on, remixed the song. Anyway, that’s by the way; why not go through the lyrics of the song first before the main review…

THE REVIEW
Lyrically, I barely heard what he said, but the good thing about music is that even if your fans don’t even hear you, as far as your fans can dance to the song, then the musician is good to go. I am sure Wizkid did more of free styling; he couldn’t have written all those “A li’n si ewu, panla panla pe ni si e wanya”, for where na…

Anyway, truly, I like the song, but lyrically, it is not fleshy, perhaps the word “Skinny or under -weight” will do. I like the African dance by those ladies; they really made the video interesting to watch unlike the other ladies in the video that forgot their “undergarment- bra” in the house and ended up distracting… The song has some Afro beat style, which brings in mind the days of the pioneer of the Afro beat music- Fela Anikulapo Kuti, no wonder at the beginning of the video, there was a picture of great legend- Fela Kuti. vlcsnap-2017-12-19-14h12m53s211
The song Manya is basically Wizkid telling the ladies that he has all the money in the world to spend excessively on them however or wherever they want it. But before they get the money, they should “follow him and manyewu”. Whatever that means? Oh, that should probably mean, they should get down with him first , that is have sex or may be have a drink together…

Wizkid got me loving this video with his unique dance steps, infact, all those that appeared in the video had their own unique steps.

Location
The video was shot indoor, at the New African Shrine in Lagos.
It was more like a bar setting and everything that is usually done in a bar was captured in the video, in terms of drinking, eating, flirting and other lewd activities

Notable appearances
Akon, Masterkraft, Ycee…
Duration: 3:58

Just Wondering
• I thought that costume looked familiar. Same spec, beret, costume…
• The song has the same concept with Tiwa’s sawage Malo, infact, when I first watched the video, I needed to check again if it was Wizkid’s Manya or Tiwa Savage’s- Malo. The same lewd content, but this video was not too busy like that of Tiwa savage’s…
• Lyrically, the song is skinny
• I love the video concept, it flows with the message “Lustful or flirty love”
The video was directed by Director Q and it featured Mut4y
