SYNOPSIS TO TRUE DREAMS
A YOUNG VILLAGE GIRL- KAMBILI (DARLENE ODOGBILI ) DREAMS A LOT AND THEY COME TRUE. ONE DAY,SHE DREAMS ABOUT HER RICH AND EDUCATED FUTURE SPOUSE, MARCUS (JERRY WILLIAMS). EVEN WITHOUT MEETING HIM IN REAL LIFE; KAMBILI TURNS DOWN OTHER SUITORS IN THE NAME THAT SHE IS ALREADY IN A RELATIONSHIP AND REALLY LOVES THE PERSON. ON THE DAY SHE FINALLY SEES MARCUS SHE GASPS. HE IS NOT RICH AND HIS EDUCATION IS SPONSORED BY HIS BIG COUSIN- CHIJIOKE (ONNY MICHAEL)WHO HAS PLANS TO MARRY KAMBILI. MARCUS ON THE OTHER HAND DEVELOPS HATRED FOR KAMBILI FOR MAKING HIS COUSIN DESPISE HIM. WHAT IS THE FATE OF KAMBILI? WILL HER DREAMS BECOME REALITY OR JUST REMAIN A DREAM? PLOT
A young lady- Kambili (DARLENE ODOGBILI) is dreaming about a guy- Marcus (JERRY WILLIAMS). In the dream she is in a sweet relationship with Marcus. They do a lot together, like go for a lovely photo shoot, have fun together and live together, but Marcus still doesn’t propose to her. Kambili still sticks around Marcus hoping that one day he will propose. When Marcus’s mother comes to visit her son (PRISCILLIA ETEIH), she is against their relationship, which doesn’t go well with Kambili, so she kills Marcus’s mother. Kambili’s friend in the dream Vera (Suzan Zayat) encourages her to be patient that Marcus will propose one day;probably on her birthday. On her birthday, Marcus gives her a terrific treat and surprises her but not with a ring, but a lovely bracelet; Kambilii is disappointed. Vera joins the yet to be married couple in their celebration. Kambili is awoken by her uncle Nnamdi (OKEY ZUBELU) who pours a drink in her mouth after seeing her in an awkward position when sleeping. Uncle Nnamdi accuses her of being lazy and loving to sleep , and then askS her to sweep the compound.
Nnamdi is with a wealthy chief (NO NAME)in their compound. He promises Chief that his niece- Kambili will marry him. He tells the chief to quickly build a beautiful house for his family since he will soon be an in-law. Nnamdi calls Kambili and introduces her to the chief as her future husband. But she turns the man down outrightly.
Kambili’s mum (NO NAME) wants Kambili to go to the market. Kambili tells her mum that she is not happy about how her uncle- Nnamdi is bringing suitors she doesn’t to marry. She tells her mum that she is already in a relationship with a wonderful, caring, handsome and rich guy by the name Marcus (the guy in her dreams) and that he will soon come and see her mother. Kambili’s mother is partially pleased to hear that.
Kambili on her way to see her friends comes face to face with Vera (SUZAN ZAYAT); the best friend in the dream she had some time ago and this makes her exclaim Jesus! She calls her by the name she bears in the dream and immediately runs to hug her, but the lady is embarrassed as she has never seen Kambili in her life before. She immediately corrects Kambili and tells her that her name is Tega and it is her first time in the village. Tega tells Kambili that it is her friend’s wedding that’s why she is in the village. Kambili directs her to the address promising to join her at the traditional wedding, but Tega is indifferent. Tega discharges Kambili and she goes to meet her friends. Her friends Nzube (YVONNE JEGEDE) and Nneka (OMA NNADI) are not happy about the way she embarrassed the lady. Kambili tells her friends about her dream. She reminds both of them of her dream about their family which did come through. Kambili pleads with Nzube to sew a cloth for her that she wants to attend Tega’s friend’s wedding, but Nzube shuns her.
The next morning, Kambili goes to Nzube’s shop to pay for the cloth and then collect it, unfortunately Nzube didn’t take her serious and didn’t sew the cloth. Kambili is unhappy that Nzube didn’t sew the the cloth, so she leaves her shop in anger.
Kambili is ironing the cloth she wants to wear for the traditional wedding that Tega/Vera will also be attending. Her uncle-Nnamdi asks her if it is any of her close friends but she says no. Uncle Nnamdi not satisfied with her answer, gives her a lot of work to fill the drum of water and then pound yam for him; that makes her plans to go for the wedding futile.
Nnamdi goes to visit Nzube (Kambili’s friend) whom he is crushing on in her shop. Nzube is sceptical about talking to him. When Nnamdi demands to know how he can be of help to her, Nzube looks for an empty keg and sends him to fetch water for her. On his way, he stumbles on his niece, Kambili and immediately dodges her.
Kambili and her friend Nneka are on their way to the farm. Kambili tells her friend that she is going to marry an educated man and will wait for that educated man who will visit their village and ask for her hand in marriage. They stop by at a woman’s house to help her out in the farm, the woman initially doesn’t feel Kambili is capable because of the way she is dressed. She peeps on her when working and she is impressed with her work. She promises to marry her to her son- chijioke (ONNY MICHAEL) and the ladies leave afterwards.
Chief and his bodyguard arrest Nnamdi for all the money he has being collecting with the promise that his niece- kambili will marry him. Kambili’s mum comes out and begs on his behalf. Kambili also comes out from her house. The chief lets them know how he has been giving Nnmdi money including the recent 50 thousand naira. Kambili’s mum tells the chief to let Nnamdi work on his site as a way to pay his debt. The chief agrees to this. After chief leaves, Nnamdi remembers who made him borrow the money which is Nzube. He goes to her shop to demand for the money back but Nzube tells him outrightly that she wont return the money to him since he is wooing her. Seeing that he is not about to leave, she pushes him out of her shop.
Kambili tells her friend Nneka (OMA NNADI) about how her uncle is in trouble for collecting money from chief with the promise of making her marry him. Meanwhile Nnamdi is working on chief’s site, but he is tired so he sits down to rest. When chief and his body guard sight him, they forcefully push him back to work.
Kambili’s mum tells Kambili to dress up that a suitor and his family are coming around, Kambili obeys her mum reluctantly. It’s the family of the woman that had earlier promised Kambili that her son- Chijioke will marry her. Their cousin Justin (JERRY WILLIAMS) is also with them who happens to be the man Kambili had seen in her dream as her husband, so as soon as she sights him, she rushes to hug him, oblivious that he is not the one who wants her hand in marriage at that moment. Chijioke’s family leave the house in disappointment. Chijioke beats his cousin Justin, thinking he is secretly dating Kambili. Kambili’s mum and uncle are unhappy with her.
Kambili tells her friends- Nzube and Nneka what happened. Her friends are unhappy with her as well.
Chijioke and his mum (AMAKA OBIWULU ) are not happy with Nneka. They feel she didn’t tell them everything about Kambili, if she did, the shame would have been avoided. Nneka still tries to make them understand that Kambili is a responsible person, but that annoys them more.
Kambili on her way to the stream finally meets face to face with the man in her dream- Marcus/Justin and she falls flat on the floor. Her dream man- Marcus is irritated and asks her what she wants from him threatening to deal with her if she doesn’t talk. She tells Marcus/Justin about her dream but he is not convinced, rather he is irritated that his uncle’s plan to send him to America for his masters is not feasible again after the incident that happened in Kambilli’s house.
Nneka and cousin Chijioke sight Nzube and stop for introductions. Nzube finds out that Chijioke is an illeterare and that makes her see the reason Kambili may not be interested in him. Chijioke drives off leaving both friends. Nzube tells Nneka that Chijioke is an illiterate so can’t win Kambili’s heart, but Nneka tells her that what matters is that he is rich and caring.
Nnamdi tells his sister that he has finally completed his work at chief’s site and that he has also employed him to be working with for him. They are both happy about it.
Kambili’s friends join her and they all chat pertaining marriage and what they want. Meanwhile, Chijioke’s mum and Kambili’s mum want Kambili to reconsider her decision about Chijioke but she is not interested
Kambili finally locates Marcus’s house in the village. Marcus’s sister- Chioma (OGINI CONSTANCE) tells her to leave them alone while Marcus does the same demanding to know what his offence is but Kambili just stares at him.
Kambili goes to meet Marcus and tells him that she will never bother him again since he thinks she is a mad woman. She tells him that he is different from the man she had seen in her dream. She tells Marcus/Justin that the man in her dream is hard working and will never rely on family for help. On Kambili’s way to the house, she sees Chijioke, tells him she’s coming from Justin’s house and immediately leaves him standing.
Chijioke has refused to help Justin/ Marcus again and even goes as far as cancelling his visa to go for his masters in another country. Marcus/Justin pleads with Chijioke and his mum, but they turn him down. Justin’s sister advices him to start up something on his own and he remembers what Kambili had said to him.
Chijioke takes Nzube and Nneka for shopping to the city and also shops for Kambili gifts for her birthday. They call Kambili and show her the gifts from Chijioke, but she turns them down and asks them to return the gifts, after which she walks away. Nneka tells Nzube that they should return it but Nzube decides to keep it for herself.
Justin/Marcus after applying for a job in different companies also applies for government agricultural loan. He plans starting a small scale farming while he awaits their response.
Nzube getting enticed by Chijioke’s money, tells him that she loves him. She tries to make him kiss her but he turns her down and pushes her away from his car. Nnamdi sees them and realizes her gimmick is what she is trying to use on Chijioke but it didn’t work out.
Nneka takes Nzube to another farm for tilling but immediately turns back when she notices that it’s Justin’s. Justin runs after her and pleads with her to forgive him and stay with him. Kambili agrees. After tilling, both Marcus and Kambili talk for a while afterwhich he walks her home.
Kambili and Justin/Marcus sit under the tree and get to know each other more. Kambili tells him that she will like to continue her secondary school education and then go to the university. Justin/Marcus promises to be helpful. Justin also tells her that he has to go for a two year training program but she is not happy that he will be leaving her for two years.
Justin proposes to Kambili after which they marry.
