Nigerian singer- David Adeleke aka Davido was not alone on this track as he featured songstress, Summer Walker. Summer Marjani Walker is an American singer and songwriter. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, United States 24 years ago. She is currently signed to Love Renaissance and Interscope recors. Read more about her here on Wikipedia.

It was gathered that Davido donated the proceeds of this song to help cushion the effect of coronavirus worldwide. Kudos Davido!

WHAT IS THE SONG D AND G BY DAVIDO ABOUT?

D AND G is an acronym that is gotten from the word Dolce and Gabbana.

Dolce and Gabbana, and Gucci are Italian luxury fashion brand; they are world’s foremost brands. To purchase an item from their stores; that means the person is really well to do.

ABOUT THE SONG D&G

I would like to believe that Davido used the word “D&G’ to emphasize how capable he is to take care of all the financial needs and  material needs of his lover regardless how expensive they maybe.

In all honesty, I am finding it difficult to give a definite meaning to this song. In as much as I like this song; it seems to me like a song with muddled lyrics. The lyrics are very confusing. The lyrics are in no way inter-related. The chorus, verse 1 and verse 2 have different messages. Even if a song wants to have different messages; one should be able to connect it to the various theme(s) of the song; but that was not the case for this song.

For instance,

In the chorus, Davido sang “Say she look into my eyes and she seeing designers
Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana” one can say that the chorus basically talks about his female lover who believes that he can take care of all her needs regardless how expensive they may be. It also talks about how this female lover drives him crazy.

In the post-chorus he sang “Pass me the kpo, past me the cho” he requested for a substance that would keep him moving and get him high (How this one connect to the song na?). The last time I checked, codeine is supposed to be one of the analgesic drugs; but now, the drug  serves the same purpose with Indian hemp; and gets people  high

In verse 1, both Davido and Summer Walker basically  talk about their desire to have each other sexually..

View the lines below…

“Then we start from the bed to the floor. Then you give me more and more

Never had like this before, oh, oh, oh oh oh oh. I wanna give it all to you-uuuuuuuuuu”

In verse 2 “Kowowole; dem no like as we dey shanowole (Bring in money; they don’t like as we are entering the place)” Davido talks about being outstanding and taking the lead wherever he steps foot in. He also talks about taking a risk in order to get a desired breakthrough. He  talks about desiring to do something that has never been done by anyone in his country, so that his country would always remember him for such. His words “I just want to make history”

Lyrically, this song has an average lyrics; I expected more from the artiste. The song comes in two verses taken by Davido and Summer Walker. The chorus and post chorus was taken twice by Davido, but Summer also added her vocal and it really added to the melody of the song. At some point, Davido almost went screechy; oku die (As in it remains small), but that didn’t happen anyway. Summer has a very appealing vocal.

I gotz let you know that this beat is dope. It is melodious. It is a fast tempo beat. The rhythm flows well and there was consistency in the style of rhythm. The instruments used to compose the song include drums and piano.

I love the visual; colorful, great lightning and extremely interesting to watch.

Take s gander at the lyrics below.
